      Boyd Coddington Wheel?

Hey guys. well the unthinkable happened. My girlfriend wants new wheels 67 firebird so thats fine. We are browsing wheels and the ones she is dead set on are smoothy II's from boyd.

Question is how is the quality of his wheels. Also I heard that he sold the wheel business. After watching american hotrod I am not crazy about giving him any business.

Any other wheel options 17x8 and the smoothy II is a 5 spoke torque thrust kind of but with sharpened spokes.

      Thanks

smoothies are decent wheels! They area cast aluminum not forged so they have a different look to them than most wheels I have the magnetos on my dd truck and I like them for what they are just beware they aren't as shinny as some wheels out there because of the way they are made!

I have a set and they are decent. Polishing on mine wasn't the greatest as they came from boyd, I was just planning to get them polished once I get done with car. I will be selling my set off my 67 camaro at some point as I just ordered some new wheels if you are interested. 18" in back and 17" in front with I believe nitto tires on them with about 2,000 miles. 275 out back and I think 225 or 235 in front.

      Rims

I would'nt put a set of boyd's wheels on my car if he was the only one that made them, If she likes that sort of look check out somthing like a Foose, One is called the Nitrous and the other is the Nitrous II. They have a sharp edge to the spoke as well........

FOOSE NITROUS are awesome looking on first gens so I'm sure they would look good on a FIREBIRD.

I really like my Smoothie II's. I thought the polish job was pretty good.
I'm running the 17's on my 70 Camaro with Nitto 555's.

They took about 6 weeks to be delivered.

And yes they did sell the wheel portion of his bussiness to American Racing. Although he will still be making the wheels. American gets the dough

Yeah i got a negitive vibe from boyd as well watching his show not a good boss. my vote would be for the foose nitrous rims. they are killer and they go with old and new cars. plus Foose is the man!

Boyd is NOT making the wheels for American racing. The company which owns American Racing (and many other companies around the world) purchased Boyds Wheels and took all employees, machines and inventory and moved it away from Boyds to the American Racing facility in Compton, CA.
The Foose wheels do look nice but remember that they are made in China! I would prefer a US built wheel!

Coys wheel out Utah makes a knock off of the TT II's. It's called a C5. I ordered a set of the Roder 5's off of them back in Jan. They are kind of slow in the shipping department, but I would order from them again.

I have boyd nemesis on my car and I really like them. The quality is high and the polish looked like a mirror. After I got the wheels the show came out and I really got a bad taste for Boyd himself, but the product is still good.
