View Full Version : AAW LED sequential taillight install
J68Bird

This Sat I was able to check out the install of the LED sequential taillights into Frank Scopelitti's (FScope) 68 Camaro. These were the prototypes for the 67-68 Camaros. I was there, hoping to convince them to make them for the Firebirds also.
Theresa & the guys at American Auto Wire were great, but the lights and Frank's car were awesome. Pictures don't show how cool they really are. When the turn signals are on the light starts at inboard side and sweeps outward and when the emergency flashers are on both lights sweep the opposite way. They're also much brighter than stock. You have to see these lights in person. There was a new tail panel that looked like it might be set up as a display so maybe they will have it at some shows. If all goes right they might be offering a setup for the Firebirds. I'm going to keep buggin' them.

I'm in the same boat as you. Would like to see them work for the early birds too. Keep buggin T.
Seems like Jay & Bruce are ganging up on me for Firebird lights. I'll lean on the R&D department...
Glad you enjoyed yourself here Jay. Come back and visit us now that you know where we are.

The product was on display at the Charlotte AutoFair over the weekend. That is one cool piece. If I was the owner of one of those cars, that would be a must have item!!!

well today i talked to aaw and i think it was chris and he told me they dont have plans for firebirds in the schedule yet.i wish they would do this.and i hope i remembered the right name.
Well, a meeting is scheduled for Mon. @ 10am to discuss the Firebird Tailllights because so many people on this board have expressed an interest.
(Kris was not aware of that meeting when you called, the owners were.)
I'll let you know more information next week.

Theresa,
I've seen Mike & Kris at a few shows and we've talked about it. (I told you I'd keep buggin' them)
I'll be at the Goodguys show at Hershey next weekend. If the outcome of the meeting goes OK, I can bring the set of tail lights there or make plans to drop them off at the shop. Let me know.
J.
Great! Thanks Jay. Michael will be at Hershey, too.
Hey guys... Jay (j68bird) volunteed to let us (AAW) use a set of his lights for R&D purposes for Firebird lights if we pursue development of them. Thanks Jay!!! :twothumbs

hey theresa any new updates on lights for 69 birds?
Yep! We have been lucky enough to get two people from this site to send us thier 1968 and 1969 Tail Light Buckets so that we can do the R&D & test engineering. This is step one!!!!
Thanks to J68Bird and Jagarang!
We already have the '68's and the '69's are "in the mail". So we'll have them real soon.
I'll be your eyes and ears and watch the progress our guys are making and post updates.

anyone heard if any progress has been made on the bird taillights
I can update you about them...
I also wanted to give you a few of the key steps necessary to manufacture a new product here, so you'd see where I was coming from.
Once consumer interest in a specific product is determined, we enlist the parts required to begin production of the first pototype(s) (thankfully, we rececived those necessary parts from two members of this site - J68Bird and Jagarang)
From there, we:
1) Design for the housing
2) Obtain the prototype board (circuitry) for design
3) Thoroughly test the prototype
4) Submit the finished prototype for Management review for functionality, costing, market penetration, labor, etc...
5) Once approved, the order is placed for the circuitry boards
6) Once the boards are populated, we test them and develop packaging.
7) Instruction sets are developed (installation schematics) as photos of final versions are necessary
8) Then.... we're ready to sell!
Right now, we're on step 5.
So, we're moving along pretty well. We just can't let anything leave here until it's been tested, re-tested and tested again. I'm sure you understand.
I'll post again once we're closer to the almighty Step 8.

Drew,
Thanks for reminding me... I forgot to mention that we're working on the Firebird '67, '68 and '69's simultaneously so they should be ready all at the same time. Forgot to mention that in my last post.
Just got this link sent to me today from Super Chevy.
Here's an in-depth tech article they wrote about the lights & installation.
Just thought I'd share the link with you.

Firebird lovers, unite!
The 67-68 Led Tail Lights are ready. Part #500897, $239.
They are in pigtail form so that you can simply splice them into your existing rear body harness, which saves you time and money.
Thanks for your patience while we developed these lights for Firebird.
The 1969 pigtails will be ready in a few weeks!

Sure! Thanks for asking.
I just posted the photo HERE (http://www.americanautowire.com/products/Firebird_led_Kit.cfm) for you to see.
It operates and appears just like the LED kits for Camaro. It'll look just like the animation on this page (http://www.americanautowire.com/products/LED_Sequential_Tail_Lights.cfm). (Or as shown in my signature)
