Wheel sizes and backspacing
I was hoping that someone out here can help me or at least lead me in the right direction. I have 65 Chevelle with the stock width 10-bolt. I will soon be adding the full Global West treatment front and rear with Baer's on all four corners. My issue is that I keep getting and reading conflicting information regarding 64/65 A-Body backspacing. The plan is 18x7 front and 18x8 rear. I have looked at the Wheel Fitment guide and the only vehicle listed for a 65 Chevelle was Torbjorn Bjorgum and I do not plan on the mods that he has done. From what I have researched with the 7 in the front 4.5" backspacing should be good, and in the rear with the 8 5.0" will work. Can anybody confirm this for me before I shell out the dough and end up with some big expensive paper weights. Once I get this figured out then the harder decision,,,,what brand to go with.

The 18x7's will work fine with 4.25" backspacing and the 18x8's need 5".

Hey thanks for the info Clint. I definitely want to run the biggest combo possible, are the 18x8 and the 18x9.5 going to give me any rubbing issues? Am I going to have to roll the lip in the rear? Any help would be great. If what your saying is true then this is what I am going to go with.

Check out this Wheel & Tire database at Teasm Chevelle. Go to page three and scroll down to David Bates' 65 El Camino. Lots of good info.
