      LS1 rear disc on 9inch?

I have a nine inch built by Currie under my 74 camaro. It came with lincoln disc brakes (they suk) My dilemma is the axle flange on the rear end is the ford big bearing style.I was thinking of just using the LS1 rotor and caliper, then just make my own mounting brakets, but I wouldn't have a e-brake.Then I tried searching for the axle flange to axle mounting suface dimension on a LS1 camaro but I didn't have much luck,I wanted to compare that to what I have so I know where to place my brakets. If you know of an easier way to do this please enlighten me. I thought about 13'' ford cobra brakes and get the rotors redrilled for 5 on 4 3/4.

I had a similar problem with mine, only I have a Moser axle. What I did was switch to LS1 FRONT calipers in the rear and ran a 1980 Trans-AM rotor back there. This was already 5x4.75 but I had to have the holes widened for my 1/2" studs.
NOW, I went to a 4 piston rear with C4 HD rotors back there. The brackets that I have are custom made by kore3. www.kore3.com
HOWEVER, you may want to look into US Brakes. http://secureperformanceorder.com/us...e/calipers.cfm

they really have an awesome set. We put a set on a buddy's 71 Chevelle and they are aswesome. They required him to upgrade to a hydroboost because he went to a 4 piston front too. If you want to do this conversion, it is highly worth the research and time.
The brackets were completely bolt on...front and rear! The hydroboost we fabbed and took a few weeks because of parts.

      LS1 Brakes on 9 inch

Thanks for the info. What did you do with the e-brake or did you use one? I got a friend at a chevy dealership crunching numbers for the C-5 brakes for the front, and soon the back when I get it figured out. (homie discount!) I was hoping to use the GM parts for cost and ease of replacement. By the way what did kore 3 charge you for the brakets?
I plan on using a 5 speed so I kind of need the e-brake. what about redrilling the backing plate for the LS1 brakes, not sure how thick that thing is though. Brakes are fun!

      ALL great questions.
First off, kore3 charged me $140 each for the front and rear brackets because they are one offs. However, the rears will be in production at some point, but I am the first to have them.

Second, you will not save that much at the chebby dealer. I suggest gmpartsdirect.com Here is the exact c5 parts list you need...

Lastly, for the ebrake I am thinking of going with SSBC's rear ebrake caliper. Those part numbers at A2250-1P (right) and A2250-P (left). They come with sliding bolt and pads. They are rather pricy at $239 each, but if you are going to do it, do it only once!

I am also looking into precision brakes Mr. Parker for the parking brake. His are only $230 each. It is a toss of a coin either way. What may sway my decision is the fact that precisions uses a standard pad while SSBC uses a custom one only available by them.

I would just get a set of brackets made or make them yourself. Redrilling a backing plate is not the brightest idea I have ever heard, not to mention that my old backing plate could bend rather effortlessly...and braking requires some effort.

Hope this helps...any more ?'s throw them at me.

      Ssbc Calipers....

Hey, thanks for taking the time to lay it out in such detail!
I think I will end up using the ssbc caliper as well,What rotor would you recommend, or buy a whole kit from ssbc?I can build the brakets myself if I need to. I pulled one axle out last night to verify I have the big bearing ford flange. My guess was correct. I still had the lincoln setup
on it from currie, which lives at the bottom of my dumpster.

This all depends on what your plans are for calipers. IF I were you, and I am not, I would call Tobin at www.kore3.com and tell him that you have the same rear end that I do and you want a set of brackets too. He is making them for the parking brake too. I will be running FRONT C4 13" rotors in the REAR of my 442, so on my 9". I would do this and then decide on the actual caliper. He can do whatever you want...and they will be cheaper because I already paid the design phase of it. Your welcome.

      super,
You could run a pinion mounted parking brake setup if your calipers don't have the e-brake provision.

You might want to call Noel at Touring Classics (a sponser here). He might have a bracket for you........ other than that, I know BAER has a bracket for the big bearing ends.

While I was at work today I thought about the single piston pbr caliper
that was used on the C-4 corvette it had the parking brake built into the caliper, is this a viable option? I think the baer sport kit rear uses these. I could use a 13'' front C-4 rotor as sugessted earlier in the thread and the C-4 rear caliper. The brakets I could build myself. So....what do you think?

hey guys, theres another option out there. im going to run the 99-02 f-body brakes with the integral drum parking brake. i just ordered the backing plate caliper mount braket combo new from Chevy. they cost me $80 a side and that includes the parking brake assembly. now i need f-body rotors and calipers. no biggie. i too am running a 9" rear but i will have it made to accept this particular combo. im sure someone with adequate intelligence and fab skills could make it work on a big bearing ford axle flange. the only catch is you have to slide the backing plate on the axle before you press the bearing on. the ncie thing over aftermarket is i know i can get replacement parts anywhere.
Tough guys may wear pink, but Bad Asses still wear black.

I am using Touring-Classics on a Ford 9"--link above shows how.

As a side note I believe Noel of Touring Classics is making a bolt on bracket for the 9".
