NO! It's weird not to get excited over awesome new tires!!!

What kind of mileage would you expect to get out of these? What are the specs for performance? I will try searching the web to see what I can find.

I'm trying dammit! lol.. if GM had sent me a 2005 LS2 the car would be done by now. We are just waiting for FAST and Speartech to finish figuring out the programming so we can dyno.
Going to work on the car monday and will snap some pics. I miss my car..

I've heard that lots of people have rubber fetishes ...
Those are the tires I was contemplating for my '71, except I am trying to sqeeze just puny little 305s under my (un-tubbed) rear.

I would guess about 15k miles if you aren't TOO hard on them.. that's about 2 years (more than likely) on my '68.. I work 4 miles from home so even if I drove it to work a lot then that is still low mileage.
Im too lazy to have "track tires" and "street tires"..

Thats way longer than I expected. I'm sure you will let us know how they do.

that tire is the spec tire for american iorn, and a darn good tire. toyo says that you can flip the tire and run it backwards after is has started to wear to get more life out of it with no problems.

That all depends on Steve's ability (or inability) to keep his right foot off the floor.

I imagine the first set will wear out quicker.. lol.. it's really easy to stick your thumbnail into the rubber..

Believe me when I say these tires are worth their weight in platinum. I would sacrifice tread width for this tire anyday.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a new tire fetish.

I tried their website, but they did not list the tires you have. Where can I find the specs and sizes available in the type you got? Thanks,

Those are awesome tires. The Proxes RA1 tires are the spec tire on the CMC race cars. They stick well and we get very good wear out of them. For racing we shave them to 6/32" and most guys can make it though the entire season on 2-3 sets. The more heat cycles you put on them, the better they get.

Good deal, I had wanted NT01's at first but Toyo had the right sizes for me.. nice to know they are going to function good.
And they are most likely better in the rain compared to NT01's..
Thanks for the info!

We run full tread RA1's for rain conditions. The shaved RA1's are horrible in the rain.
The full tread RA1's still work good in the dry, about a second per lap slower than shaved tires. They will be 'greasy' for the first few heat cycles and then they will 'come in' and work awesome until you see cords. As was mentioned, you can reverse the rotation of these tires so you can mount the 'inside out' and get more life out of the tires. They will even survive a few wheel lockups without flat spotting too badly.
I'm a big fan of these tires.

One thing I've noticed is none of these R-compounds (Toyo, Nitto, Kumho, even Hoosier) are Y or (Y) rated. Most of them are either V rated (149mph) or W rated (168mph). In addition to the limited sizes and high price, this is a killer for me as I'd like a (Y) rated tire (186+mph). I'd hate to head down to Maxton or the back straight on one of the larger courses and realize that my tires are the limiting factor; a blowout at 150+ wouldn't be pretty.
What are your guys thoughts on this?

I ran the RA1's in the Pony Express 100. Even though I had a full cage, etc., the 'tech' speed for my car was limited to the tire's speed rating. I was not allowed to go faster than the tech speed. I ran in the 135-mph average class with radar-verified speeds at 150 mph in certain sections of the course. The Toyos were great for that. If I recall correctly, the unlimited class cars ran Pirelli's, etc. that had the necessary speed rating. You really don't need a super sticky tire for top speed racing, so many guys ran regular compund street radials with the necessary speed rating.

Thanks, Neil. There aren't many tires with the (Y) rating, the Kumhos on my SS have a Y rating good to 186, but only a few have the 186+ rating. It's not that I'd want the super stickies for the top speed stuff, I'd just want to have one set of tires for everything (even though they might not be best suited for everything i.e. street, auto-x, road course, even some 1/4 runs).
