Was it a goodyear tire? I think the size was discontinued about two years ago, but I may be wrong?

the one i "saw" was a bfgoodrich...on the black 69 camaro in the august 2005 issue of chevy hi performance. I have found 315/35/17's....but i am trying to get a 26" tire.

I did a quick search on a few sites who sell BFG (among other brands) and no one had a 315/40/17. The overall diamater on that tire would actually be just shy of 27" (26.92). It may have also been a typo? :dunno:

I'd like to have this size too, but I haven't found them anywhere.

While at PRI, I tried pimping Nitto, MT, Gyear, BFG, etc to build a slightly larger 17" tire. Most of them (understandable, of course) aren't willing to do this as there are no OEM apps for this. a 315/40 or 335/40 would be PERFECT.

GOOD LUCK!

ok...i was overall going for a 26.1" diameter rear tire....and a 315/35/17 is 25.7"....is that really all that noticable??

I was trying to got with 17's in the front and 18's in the rear...but it looks like 17's on all four corners.

It's just about of 3/8" (+/-). You tell us if you think you'll notice it.

Goodyear was supposedly going to offer their F1 tire in a 315/40 but I've never seen or heard of anyone using them. Don't think it ever happened.
Yeah,I would like to see a 335/40/17 or something even bigger. My car definitely has the room.

It's really not noticable at all: I went from 275/40/17s (25.7" OD) on my 01 SS to 295/35/18s (26.1" OD) on the rear of the car. Granted, this was going from 17 to 18" but the overall appearance didn't really have any noticeable changes (i.e. stance, wheel gap, etc.).

As well as some 335/35/18s for us 18" guys. Those would be perfect.

I have 315/35 17's on my car, and the diameter works out to be 25.6 inches. is that close enough to your 26"?

So that's a good half inch taller than the 315/35/17...or Michelin Pilot Sport or Pirelli P-Zero Giallo (expensive) are available in 335/35/17 as well.

Kumho makes 335/35/17's too. That's what I'm running on the rear of my car.

IIRC, 315-40-17 was the OE tire for rear of the McLaren F1, supplied by Goodyear in their Eagle Supercar tire line. The 2004 Goodyear catalogue I have doesn't show it any more, so it's likely a discontinued tire.

Call Tire Rack, and tell them you need new tires for the back of your McLaren, see what they have to sell you. :fingersx:

I read that that tire was made for the European market only and would be hard to get here if still made but it is the perfect size for most of our cars though

That sounds likely. The last time I actually saw a pair of those tires on anything other than a McLaren, was the 600 inch Boss 429 powered SN95 Mustang that the Ford SVT guys put together about 6 years ago.

BFG used to have 305-45-17 in their Comp T/A HR4 lineup, but they're gone now as well. That was a nice size.
