In my 69 Firebird the 4th gen console is level. I didn't have to raise it up, but I have yet to install the 4th gen dash.

I'm glad you mentioned the year one gauge pod, I've been thinking about where to mount the rest of my gauges when I do the swap!

My console is level as well. Orignally when I installed the console there was a gap in the front, but I just pushed down a little more & then the console ended up level front & back. Otherwise I think in the year one console they welded in that panel on the side to cover the gap in the front.
BTW, did you get the dimensions for the pod from the company that designed it? I need that as well.

for everyone interested in the pod..i dont have the dimensions as of yet.....i have talked to phil...who is who made the thing..and he said they are in teh pricess of mass producing them in abs plastic to look just like the dash...he said they have one in metal that is a templet to make the rest of them but jsut cant find the guy to cut them out in plastic so he gave me the pics of the step by step making of it and i just duplicated it....i have not finished it b/c the connole is not in my car yet...i just have to mount the console and then final fit it...if any one wants the pics that i went by i will be mroe that happy to give them to you just pm me or when i finally talk to phil again he said he would try to fit the templet with the measurements to get to me either way ill get it to whoever wants it

I am not able to visualize what you are talking about with the gauge pod. Is there a photo of that somewhere?

The entire buildup on the Year One Camaro is here (http://www.yearone.com/enthusiast.asp?enl=1&enlURL=enthusiast/articles/69camaro/69camaro.asp). It looks like this page (http://www.yearone.com/enthusiast/articles/69camaro/69camarocap8.asp) has pics of the creation of that bit (but I might be wrong)

Hmm, might have to go grab a 4th gen console and look into that. I'd like to have Oil-P, Oil-T, Water-T, Amps and Fuel. I think there'd be more room between the console and dash on a '68 than on a '69.

How are consoles normally mounted to the trans tunnel? I will have a console, just don't have one yet. Should I weld anything to the trans tunnel before it's carpeted?

When I first bought my 02 trans am console, it fit with no problems when I had the 69 Camaro seats bolted in the car. Shortly after I installed the 4th gen seats and it still fit great. It actually fit easier with the 69 seats.
