Pulled my heads today to see how far in the hole my pistons sit in so I can buy the right headgaskets and get my compression ratio just right. This is the first engine I've taken down to the shortblock. Next comes putting on my new Vortecs, new intake and recurving the distributor to match the new setup. I also used our new lift for the first time to take out my headers from the bottom... and it's AWESOME. I love it already. Now I'm not dreading the suspension rebuild so badly. I think I'll be either heat wrapping or beadblasting/painting my headers too. The SOB's are fugly.

I know the ~390hp is dwarfed by most everyone here, but that's pretty good power for my budget, under $1000. I'm excited. I still don't know too many guys who have almost 400hp at 20 years old.

congrats! the suspension is no big deal. i did my 79s on the floor with floor jacks. the hardest part is making sure the front springs are positioned correctly while putting them back in the car. luckily for you your springs arent as strong as the ones on my TA. man did i have to wrestle with them.

Oh, I bet you would be suprised how many here don't have 400 hp.
No need to apoligize about budget build, trust me, we all are in the same boat. Never enough regardless of the "budget". lol

The springs I put in will probably be just as strong, unless I decide to cheap out and cut coils on the ones I already have. They were replaced just a few years ago before I bought it.

No no no, the cam is far from a stock smogger. 280 duration and .480 lift. The pistons are 10:1 flat tops.
