      Wheel-Brake clearance for 2nd gen F-body with C7 Z51 / 6th-Gen Camaro brakes

      Hi all,

Hoping for some help before ordering 18" wheels please.

Late 2nd gen Camaro, planning on 13.6" Corvette C7 Z51 / 6th-Gen Camaro brake upgrade. edit - also considering 13.4" C6 option with the smaller caliper.

Would like help please in figuring out:

      1. How much would the caliper stick out past the hub face into the wheel (using the deep hat C7 style rotor)
      2. How much clearance is there on a select few wheels below, in terms of how far is the back of the spoke to the wheel hub mount. Measured the stock rim and the back of the spoke was about 20mm (roughly 1/4") further out than the wheel hub mounting surface (factory gap to help clear stock caliper).

The wheels would be 18x8 with 4.5 Backspace:
      • US Mag U102 Standard (These have flat back spokes compare to the Torq Thrust)
      • Torq Thrust 2 (The spokes banana out for clearance but not sure if the top of the caliper would clear where the spoke curves back into the wheel, given the caliper sits right near the top of the barrel)
      • Torq Thrust M - (Supposedly these are made with extra clearance but would be great to know what the measurement is)

Would be great if someone is able to share measurements, experience with these combinations.

If I can figure out these measurements, should be able to see what would work.

      Thanks!

I can likely help you out here with some measurements on the C7 Z51 brakes when I get home. I am considering the exact same brakes on my 79 Z-28. I have a C7 Z51 and recently did some fitment of some 18x8 Weld Venture wheels on it to determine if they would clear the caliper. Diameter wise they clear fine, but looking like I would need at least a 1/2" spacer to get the back of the spokes to clear the caliper face. Not sure this will work on a late 2nd gen though, pushing my particular wheels out 1/2". Also for reference, I test fit my same Weld Ventura wheels on a friends C7 GS with the 14.6" rotors and larger calipers. Again, the wheels clear the caliper fine diameter wise, but would need at least a 3/4" spacer for the backs of my spokes to clear the caliper face.

Not sure if this helps in anyway or not? I will take some measurements and pictures on my C7 Z51 brakes either tonight or tomorrow when I get home.

That would be excellent and very helpful, thank you!

I was looking at the Kore3 diagrams earlier, it shows that for a 13.4" rotor, top of the caliper would sit at 8.04" away from the centre of the hub, which on an 18" diameter wheel would leave a gap of around 0.75" - 1" between the top of the caliper and the wheel barrel. That's a very comfortable gap if so.

It also shows that the caliper would stick out past the hub face (into the wheel area) by 0.78". This factors in the lettering on the caliper, so more likely 0.75" on a plain caliper. This sounds a little deep into the wheel spoke area.

Not sure my 1st gen brake and wheel upgrade using some Kore components will exactly help from 2017 but here goes.

Had a hubcentric spacer turned down to .3125"- 5/16" because the caliper was hitting the wheel so had to move rim out slightly. Then wheel studs had to be changed to longer ones for good thread engagement. Everything clears and no problems to date. Rim manufacturer gives inside dimension's for hub spacer not just a spacer.

Thanks, that is very helpful. It's good to see that the 18" will clear radially even with wheel weights. Albeit a different rim style, one would gather that a similar wheel would still be ok.
It didn't need a terribly thick spacer to fit then, my worry was also fender rubbing with a spacer (and trying to avoid a caliper clearance that would require a hubcentric spacer, ideally 1/8th inch would be maximum.

Thanks downloaded the templates for the 12.8 and 13.4, unfortunately don't have a wheel to compare them to.
