View Full Version : Another Lemans Blue 69 Camaro with DSE suspension. Wheel & tire questions
Just got my car back from Crissmans in Texas did the install in 3 weeks. Full DSE build. Front DSE frame with DSE 4 link & mini tubs. I’m prepping the fire wall & dry sump tank before it goes to CA for a paint re shoot. I have a 427 lt4 with 2650 magnuson SC & a t56. Rear end is the DSE full floater. Brakes are Baer 6 piston front & 4 rear.
14” rotors. Figure 800 hp.
for swap compatibility to a track car I was thinking 18’s front & rear but open to 19’s on the rear. Likely go with forgelines. this is primarily a driver hot rod. Not planning on competing with it.
Anyone with this combo can you give me some idea what size wheels & backspace fit well?
What tire/brand do you recommend?

Looks great! I've got 18x9's (5.5" BS) on the front and 19x10's (5.75" BS) on the rear of my Firebird. I love the look of it. My rears are a little narrower than what you can fit but I've been tossing around the idea of selling these and going to more of an squared autocross setup. Only have 1200 miles on them and the Continental's, not sure if they'd work for you but tossing it out there in case!

Call Forgeline and they can get you in the ball park for tires that will fit and BS. They have sold many wheels for your set up. I highly recommend getting mock up tires and a tool to measure with or you may end up disappointed because even with the same specs all of these cars are different. You need to measure through full range of articulation and compression plus lock to lock on the front and have at least a half inch of clearance everywhere if you want to make sure your tires won't rub. Forgeline has a loaner tool you can use if you pay shipping and a deposit that covers the price of the tool. Its a very high quality tool that will give good results. To maximize size it's best to do it before paint incase you need to roll the wheel opening lip on the rear. I had to roll mine for 335's to fit comfortably but not everyone has to.

I haven't used that tool but it strikes me as being not as precise as the loaner from Forgeline which is CC Tek Wheel Tek 2.0 which is very rigid and will hold the tire at 3 contact points which I think is important because you are measuring a half dozen points on each side when articulating the axle (or should be) and under full compression and having that tire perfectly square with the hub is very important for accurate measurments. If you are leaving a lot of room for clearance it's less critical but to maximize tire size you want spot on measurements. There are other options I'm sure but it was easiest for me and basicly free because forgeline is a 30 minute drive for me.
