700r4 What Transmission Company would you buy from.

For my buddy and his 81 Camaro, 383 SBC 525 hp. I suggested a 4l60e/or 4l80e but he doesn't want to cut the tunnel or spend the extra $1500-$2000 for the electronic trans/ and controller.

He just wants to drive and enjoy it. Any suggestions appreciated.

thanks
Tom

I would suggest Pro-Built Automatics in Southern California, Hughes Performance, or Gearstar.
Stay away from cheapy online reman shops, B&M, TCI, and Monster.

Remember, a 700-R4 has a TV (throttle valve) cable that needs to be adjusted correctly for the trans to function. If it gets out of adjustment it can smoke the trans quickly. A good strong TV cable bracket is worth its weight in gold.

A new quality TV cable is important as well - the cable will stretch over time. It doesn't need to stretch much before it won't work correctly.

Convinced him to go 4l60e, ordered a Gearstar. Same size as 700r4, don't have to deal with TV cable , the controller comes with plug and play connectors for the EFI/tps we are using.

Great choice on the 4L60E and Gearstar.
Report back on how the transmission works.
