Ridetech Tru turn, Can I use OEM style tie rods instead of the Heim joints
Hello
Stumbled upon a used complete ridetech Tru Turn setup, the newer style. I´ve been reluctant to go this route in part because of cost but mostly because of the Heim joints.
(and also because it´s mostly a street car) But when doing some suspension simulations for fun, it turns out the tall drop spindles are actually great for geometry (roll center position & movement, because of the more favorable lower control arm angle, plus the more obvious and perhaps a little aggressive camber gain) but with everything else untouched also very terrible for bump steer...and wheel fitment...
Hence my interest in the Tru Turn setup.
Now this setup is used and might be priced right but I´m pretty sure the Heim joints are no longer tight and needs replacing as they will frequently if used on the street in the occasional bad weather.
Surely there is a good reason that they only come with Heim joints other than for adjustability? But I cannot find any info regarding this in the googlemachine...
So... Is it possible to use OEM style tie rod ends instead of the Heims? I´m aware that First gen Camaro Outers is probably not correct length or maybe not even correct thread size, but I am prepared to do a little digging to find something that fits (or fab up custom adjuster sleeves, or both...). I´m also aware that I´m loosing adjustability and may get less than optimal bump steer performance, but I´m willing to give it a try if there are no other obstacles, worst case I will just divert back to Heim/R joints.
I´m using GW Control arms, Brakes are Corvette C3 (repop JL8 caliper brakets) Wheels will be Corvette 15X8 Rallies, Power steering box is one of the fast ratio/High effort ones from a second gen camaro iroc/z28 (XH). Back end will be sitting on Hotckiss 1,5" lowering Leafs with possibly a 1" lowering block.
