So, after years and years of being gone from this forum, I'm back!

This summer I bought a 70 AMX that had some custom metal body work done years ago so it was, IMHO, a perfect candidate for a pro-touring project. The 390\4 speed needs some love and instead I have opted to give my 2018 Denali donor 6.2L L86 a new home in it! I have the BTR Stage 2 Cam, dod\afm delete, blah blah blah. Ill ditch the 8l90e trans and look for a TR6060 or Super Magnum T56.

Dropped the coin today on the Control Freak full suspension\steering\braking upgrades and that should be delivered in 2-3 weeks.

Is this possibly the first 1st gen AMX to get the pro-touring treatment? I did a search here for AMX and came up with nothing?! Wish me luck (and help me find a turn-key trans!) lol

Looks really slick!! That body style is great and your new suspension should have it dialed in like it should be! Congrats on the brew new build. Sounds like it’ll be coming together real soon

Car delivered this week to Kustom Metal in Fulton, IL for some love to the floors and suspension\steering\brake installation. Looking for a turn-key Super T56\T56\tr6060 setup for the Gen V L86 motor. I have some emails out but if anyone knows of any shops that can provide a turn-key solution please let me know!

Anyone ever heard of https://entropyrad.com/product/1968-1974-amc-javelin-amx-radiator-with-dual-hpx-fans/? They are pretty close by so ill be stopping by in the coming weeks to check out their stuff in person.

Very cool project, 70's are pretty unique. I can't wait to this project finished!
I don't know if you have seen this car but its probably the OG 70 Pro-Touring AMX. Theres build/revival thread on the AMC Forum as well.

You have to think out of the box when building these as there are not many repop parts available, but there are a lot of parts that fit that were on other cars.

Thanks for that link! I hadn't seen it.

New Tremec ordered and old 390/4 speed sold FAST to a dude that couldn't drive cross country fast enough. AMC guys are fanatical! lol

I wouldn't use Entropy Radiators.....I've been through 3 of them in my LS swapped 1972 C20 Suburban and all 3 cores cracked over time. At first, they tried to convince me it was electrolysis eating the welds in the core, but I had been running a sacrificial anode per their requirements and was showing less than .7 volts across the coolant in the radiator. The final conclusion was that unlike a lot of the cheap, chinese aluminum radiators out there, these are very well built but they weld a top plate on the top and bottom of the core between the two end tanks. The core expands at a different rate than the thicker top and bottom plate due to the varying thickness in the metal, and over time the welds in the upper corners of the core would crack because the top plate did not allow for the very slight expansion of the core. All 3 of my radiators failed in the same spot. I eventually swapped to a much cheaper Holley Frost Bite radiator, and while the build quality isnt nearly as nice from an aesthetic or aluminum welding standpoint, it has held up to daily driving over the past year. Just my experience.

FWIW, the DeWitts Radiator I run in my Corvette does not have a top plate. If you want a very high quality piece, I would contact them.

Mockups are done.. found some unsurprising rot that needed to be dealt with in the inner rockers.

Really nice. I caught a ride in one of these long ago, but it was an absolute rust bucket which was eventually abandoned along the highway when it broke down. It was still a fun car.

I like it, 70 is my favorite AMX!

Here's a build on this forum, pretty wild 69 AMX.

New floors and inner rockers done. Suspension just about all mocked up with L86\T56 Magnum. Soon off to next shop for undercarriage prep and coating then final assembly. Playing with the idea of adding a LT4 blower while it's at this stage.

Will you be using OEM EFI or Holley EFI with the DI controller?

Mocking up Ford 9" width and ride height with the 3030 Autosport F22s... tick tick tick.. time is passing quickly and hope to make more progress quickly so I can get this one to Sam's Upholstery in Winterset, Iowa for his magic on the interior!

Opted to replace the AMC20 with a big bearing Ford 9". All getting mocked up now. Ricks Tanks is in house and all hoses and lines are being figured out now. Full billet LME setup for the L86 timing cover replacement to minimize a failure point along with DOD\AFM\VVT delete.

Can't wait to get the mechanicals done and to the interior shop in Iowa ASAP!

Waiting on lots o' parts such as Holley Ultra Low Ram intake (hood clearance) that will do for now until Maggie or Whipple, fuel injectors, metric butt ton of fittings, ac compressor, Mishimoto rad hoses, throttle body, fuel filter and regulator, etc.

Trying to decide if the Eddie Motorsport billet hood hinges are in the budget and worth it. Anyone used any Eddie MS parts and have any input in this area?

Are there any AMC\AMX billet deck lid hinges (bougie, I know!)?

I think the billet hinges are worth it. A repop hinge failed on me and I ended up bending my hood. The billet ones open and close much smoother and easier.

A few changes as we move along, new Holley Ultra LowRam needed due to hood clearance issues, opted for port vs. direct injection (for now), wrong Mechman 400 amp alternator so swapping it out, Granitelli throttle body. Needless to say the credit card is getting smokin' hot! lol

400 amp alt. you can run your house off of it if the power goes out. lol.

Been there done that MANY years ago with the help of Kyle at DSE. I was one of his first customers in the early 2000's when he was still in the Detroit area.

Catching up here. Riotous aka Bad Idea is done for this year. It will get a complete leather interior this fall\winter. It's time to drive the snot out of it for now. LT1\T56 seems to work very well. Chassis dyno tomorrow to ensure the Holley Terminator X Max is tuned well.
