I am instailing an Ididit tilt column into my DSE subframed Camaro. On the bracket for the column (not the firewall piece) there is around 3/4" of fore/aft adjustment in the slots. Is there a certain place where I should be within this range? I have the DSE steering shaft and I have to push the column pretty far towards the front of the car to get enough steering shaft into each u-joint for me to be comfortable. I am going to seal weld the u-joints to the shaft so I don't need full engagement but I would still like 70% or so at the joints and 100% at the column interface and rack interface. If I need to have the column mount in a different spot in the adjustment range then I can just buy a longer DD shaft & cut it to my desired length.

3/4" of an inch in and out can be the difference between the linkage clearing your headers or not. It can also be the difference between comfortable steering wheel placement or not.

I don't build steering linkage without headers, seats, actual steering wheel that will be used or a very close replica.

Please don't weld your U joints. It is unnecessary.

I'll wait on the shaft. May I ask why not to weld the joints? From what I can tell I will still be able to remove the shaft by lossening the column. I can't think of any other drawbacks.
