Hi all, now that I've been able to put some miles on my car I'm toying with the idea of ditching my hydroboost and going with a standard booster. Even after changing from my Silverado master cylinder to a Wilwood 1 1/8" mc I'm not a fan of the feel of my brake pedal. She stops just fine, no issues there, no need to pump the pedal or anything. Since there is plenty of vacuum I'd like to swap out the hydroboost booster and see how the pedal feels then. Does anyone have experience with aftermarket vacuum boosters? I see Tuff Stuff has a wide array of boosters and some people mention C6 dual diaphragm boosters but not sure what might be the best option for me. My Cutlass has KORE3 Z51 C6 front brakes and old school Baer (Track I think) 12" C4 rear brakes. Thanks, James

The tuff stuff and C6 boosters have different mount measurements. I have the tuff stuff booster and the early 2000s S-10 MC (has a screw top, plastic reservoir). Works great with my C6 brakes. DSE uses the C6 stuff now and it would work as well. In the end, just pick a 1” bore MC to use with the booster.

Thanks for the info! Out of curiosity, why a 1" bore vs a 1 1/8"? Also, are you using a single or dual diaphragm?

I am using the 9” dual diaphragm tuff stuff booster. The 1” bore (in a vacuum booster) is the best one to use according to folks like Tobin at Kore3, Baer and DSE. While I don’t know exactly why, I just know it works. I used Hydraboost in the past and removed it to go back to a vacuum booster. Hydraboost have their place in applications like no vacuum engines for example. I know the OEMs used them in the 90s/2000s. My reasoning for changing was being tired of trying to figure out what MC to use and PS noise due to the return fluid routing into the reservoir. I am not saying I hate them but like the simplicity of either vacuum or manual MC.

Ah, gotcha. Tobin recommended the 1 1/8" for my hydroboost setup which is why I went that direction. Thanks again, I appreciate the info!
