I have a Holley Sniper on my relatively stock SBC and sometimes when I step on the pedal it backfires(or something like that), any clue to what that is?

Are you using the Sniper to control your ignition timing?

I’m using the large cap HEI distributer, i remember setting the timing when I installed it, I went just the basic setup. I’ve been thing of buying the Hyper Spark if that would help

Sounds like a timing issue. Any chance you're off a tooth on the cam?

Backfires? Like out the exhaust?

Or does it sneeze through the throttle body?

What happens to AFR when you step on the gas and this happens?

Sneeze and I think the AFR drops a bit. It almost or sometimes dies so I keep my foot on the throttle to keep it from dying. I disconnected the battery and reinstalled the set up and took it for a test drive and it sneezed

Highly doubtful my timing chain would be off tooth, motor is low mile, I’m thinking it’s timing on the distributer

I accidentally installed the distributor 180* off in my 351W. It started but ran like s**t doing some things similar to what you describe. I realized my mistake and spun it around and it was golden.
