I’m just about done laying dynamat extreme throughout the trunk but am on the fence about putting on underside of deck lid because it’s obviously painted and looks nice. Will it damage paint if I want to remove one day? What do you guys do? Leave it bare or put it on the recessed part of lid? Thank you

Doing the underside of the trunk lid is overkill. IMO.

Perhaps do a liquid sound dampening material through the various openings and flow it around and it will never be seen?

Depends on how big the subwoofer is in the trunk :-)

I did my trunk floor this winter and NOT my trunk lid. Driving the car this spring I can say it made a difference.

I wouldn't bother, focus more on keeping the noise that is in the trunk, in the trunk and not in the passenger compartment. You can do some nicely cut mass loaded vinyl if you just gotta have something, and it will look pretty decent.

Depending on the car, that means focus on the backseat closeout and package tray.

Once you apply dynamat you can pretty much consider it permanent, so wait if you’re not sure if you want it. What you could do is install a few small pieces of dynamat in the recesses like you mentioned, then have an upholstery shop make carpet, or some other material, inserts to go in the recesses and cover the dynamat. It would look good and cut down on vibrations.
