Insted of buying tubular A arms for an f-body

As I understand it, tubular a arms main advantage it to gain some caster. I was thinking of machining the stock shaft back 3/8 to 1/2 (from blue line to red line in photo)and adding a spacer to the other end. Why will this not work?

Depending on the car you might move the wheel back too far and cause rubbing.

I think there is a lot more to it than that. A proper set of UCA/LCAs will correct all of the deficiencies of the stock F-body suspension. I don't see how taking some material off the cross bar will help anything much.

Also, Global West has their own version for an offset crosshaft.

It’s probably just better to buy an offset shaft if that’s what you want.

offset shafts don't affect caster.

I think what your effectively trying to do is move the upper ball joint back,to increase caster,will it work? I dunno.
If you do try it I would do it in small increments and see if it changes anything,but in the end if your not doing the alignment yourself at home,the cost of the experiment might cost as much as buying tubulars that have the geometry revised.give it a shot and report back.

I just made some calculations and 3/8" would only add 1.9° and 1/2" would be 2.6°. Therefore 5° would have the joint back almost an inch.

Moving the lower bj foward is what also equates to the increase of positive caster,just a thought for you.
