67 Camaro Mini Tubbed

Hello all and Happy Holidays! I have been reading posts and searching here and hopefully someone can help me. I am Looking for tire and wheel sizes that you have used on 67-8 Camaros that have the DSE Mini-Tub done here are my questions:

1). I have just installed the kit on my car, with stock length 12 bolt rear. Heres where Iam lost, do i keep the rear stock length? I have to buy axles and differential for it anyway as it has a spool and strange axles. So narrowing is not a problem. what length axle to axle flange have you guys went with?

2). What rear wheel size and tire size have you used? I would prefer to narrow rear then use a ton of back space or is that not a problem?
I want to use a 315 or 335 17 inch tire.

If anyone has pics of your setups please postem I need to get an idea of what to do, Iam worried about buying tires and wheels and then not having them fit! Any help would be appreciated.

If you want a 12" wheel with some lip (depth). A 6" back space and a 56" hub to hub rear will usually do it. But the absolute best way to get it right will be to order you wheels and tires, mock them up in place and measure between.

hi, welcome to the site. I agree, get the wheels you like then measure between don't forget to factor in the disc rotor thickness. I like to keep cost down with standard backspaced rims since axles are usually replaced anyways. checkout Mikes 67 project page (http://hometown.aol.com/gumbydmit22/mpcamaro.html).

Thanks for the welcome and advice, I dont mean to sound stupid but this is not my area of expertice. Can I get a starting point on wheel sizes that have worked, I realize that its best to have the wheel and tire then the rear kinda falls into place but what wheel and tire is to big? I like the look of the 325/50/15 ET Streets but they almost look to big. Iam just trying to find what people have actually installed for a start I dont want to drop a grand on wheels that wont work and I dont have any I can borrow at the moment.

If you are going to use leaf sprigs, 335s are tight against the springs, 315s will give additional clearance. I suggest a 12" rim with a 6" backspace and either a 315 or 335 tire.

I mini-tubbed my 68 and used a 17x10 w/ 5" B.S. and a 315/35/17 tire and love the fitment. A 11" wheel would be my first choice but I could only get a 10" in the wheel I chose.

I personally feel a 315 is the optimum tire for the 67-8 and a 335 for the 69 since it has wider fender wells...

Frank knows his stuff so those are good dimensions to use.
If you still need further reinforcement, call DSE at 704-662-6272 and speak with Kyle or Stacey. They have done many of these and have all of the dimensions on file.

I recently mini tubbed my 67 and like you do not want to order the wrong wheels and then not be able to use them.

Charley-Are there some sort of spacers on the back of Red Witch to make the wheels fit right with a stock width rear end or do they end up fitting right because of the mini tubs?

The Red Witch is with Stielow in Detroit and I can't remember. I will see if i can get Stielow to chime in.

The Red Witch has 17X11 ZR-1 rear wheel with 36 mm offset. I did just like Frank suggested and mock up the tires and wheels in the wheel well and ordered the rear axle. (You can order rear axles in 1/16" increments) I do not know the dimension and the car is in the painter right now.

With leaf springs and mini tubs a 315/35R17 fits well.

So if I understand Mark's response correctly, the rear end housing width is stock, and I would guess he would remember if he had to use any kind of spacer to get the wheel out far enough with the deep backspacing, and he did not mention any.

Jeff, that's about the opposite of what I took from Mark's response - I gathered that he'd set the wheels/tires where he wanted them to be, and measured for the custom rear end housing. No spacers because he'd got the exact correct length (down to the nearest 1/16th).

That's exactly what Vince did with my car. I had the wheels, he mocked them in place. Then measured between the wheel mounting flanges with the wheels mocked in place. He then shortened my rear end to fit that dimension. I have 17 x 11, 5.5" BS. wheel and 315/35/17 tire.

OK 315/35/17 seems to be the way to go, by any chance has anyone stuck a set of LARGE 15" tires on one of these mini tubs? You know something with the good old fashioned regular sidewall or are we stuck with the short sidewall style tires? Just curious.

Awesome!!! This is something I've been curious about for a long time. Are those the 17x9.5's on the front or the 17x8's? If they're the 9.5's, can you tell us how you got them to fit?

After I did some thinking, it seems like he split the inner fender well and notched something somewhere to get all that to work... is that right or am I thinking about one of the other cars?

Speaking of all this... you own the Red Witch, and the Mule right? Do you also own any of the others?
