Is there anyone that does a cold air intake setup for carburetor setup? i have a FiTech but i'm trying to see if anyone makes a cold air setup for a early SBC.

I had the same question hit me this weekend watching the IATs from my Fitech running +40-50 f higher than ambient temperature, did a quick google search for SBC cold air intakes. looks like there are some prefabbed options.

Thanks, looks like Summit has quite a few as well as others. I don't know why I didn't think to look there first.

Whatever you do, just make sure to get the air entry point into the tube to be completely outside the engine compartment (not simply picking up air from a far corner near the radiator support). Otherwise you won't get any real benefit...
Given the air filter is on the throttle body, it should make life easier as you don't have to locate a filter on the entry point of the tube..

Did a custom one using a drop base on my Holley HP throttle body. Air pickups are in the side fenders where the orginal factory TA cold air pickup was. I wanted dual pickups so everything had to be fabricated.

Carl,
I don't have any pics of the air cleaner but I'm running the 1st gen Cowl Induction hood with a Spectre cowl induction air cleaner base which has no under hood air intakes, along with a K&N filter top. All the engine intake air flow now comes in through the hood. I already had the hood so I figured I might as well use it as it was intended. Simple air cleaner base change and done. This dropped my IATs very close to ambient air temp.

Spectre has plenty of universal options to make up a CAI for whatever you're working on just Search "spectre plenum" on the ol Google and that might get you headed in the right direction. They're not cheap by any means but then again making a custom one may not be either.

I am putting this out there as food for thought. I have less then a 100 bucks into this "kit". :)
I built this intake for my '08 Envoy Denali right after I got it last fall.
I pulled off all of the factory stuff, measured every thing and ordered adapter sleeves and a 4" 90 degree polished aluminum tube.
The parts I ordered:
Spectre 9781 Air Intake Tube Coupler Black 90 Degree Elbow 4" Diameter Intake (Throttle Body Adapter)

The goal was to eliminate the Helmholtz resonator by the air cleaner
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2019/05/2v2J5Gokmx9EDKg-1.jpg
and the quarter wave tube between the MAF and the throttle body
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2019/05/2v2J5GoZGx9EDKg-1.jpg
AND make things look a little better...
I mocked up the new adapters
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2019/05/2v2JNNQtSx9EDKg-1.jpg
and made a pattern to cut the tube out of foamcore board (I use a lot of this stuff for fab work).
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2019/05/2v2JNNQkWx9EDKg-1.jpg
I used heavy duct tape and a hose clamp to plug the resonator tube.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2019/05/2v2JNNQSCx9EDKg-1.jpg
I moved the PCV vacuum fitting to the MAF adapter and added a longer piece of hose to hook it up.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2019/05/2v2JNNQCWx9EDKg-1.jpg
Used the template to cut out a chunk of the tubing and got everything mocked up.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2019/05/2v2JNNQDnx9EDKg-1.jpg
I reused the hose clamps from the MAF end of the stock tube and got everything put together in time to go to dinner Friday nite. :)

There is no sound difference at an idle but once you step on it and get the RPM's up you can hear a nice throaty roar from the intake. Don't know if there is much of a performance increase but it sure does look better...

Airaid make a carb “hat” that should make it easy to start at the carb end.
