Like to get a build thread started. I started with a 67 6 cylinder car. Now a 327 Scat etc with aluminum heads big roller cam. Edelbrock air gap. Quick fuel carb mated to a 01 Camaro T56 trans.
Paint job went South so I rescued car. The. Proceed to cut out floor, trunk and frame rails. I installed an AMD full floor, trunk , narrowed frame rails and dynacorn minitubs
Currently mocked up with Speedtech subframe and rear torque arm with rear a narrow 53.75" ford 9"
Just raised the tunnel last week with Speedtech tunnel mod kit but I added 4" to accommodate the T56 longer shift point.
It's Headed to the rotisserie next week after working on it 2 years.
Got some Forgeline ZX3 R wheels black barrels and titanium centers with 14" wilwood aero 6 for front and 14" aero 4 for rears.
I'll ha e to figure out the picture posting.

Do yourself a favor. Be sure you raised your tunnel enough to get the top bolt of the T-56 out. I dropped my motor in with the trans already bolted on so it was never a thought until now that I have to pull the motor on a finished build to change an oil pan gasket and can;t get to the top trans bolt:banghead:

After a 6 grand paint job gone bad, and my Speedtech rear suspension cradle not fitting between a crinkled frame rail, I decided to cut the car apart and go pro touring. I am a water tower builder contractor. I think it is easier to push 3/4 or 1/2 inch plate steel where i want it than this sheetmetal but one year later I got a new full floor, trunk. mini tubs, outer fenders, and all my Speedtech front and rear suspension mocked up. Front downtube bars mocked up, Ridetech Stainless Full Cage mocked up. Now headed to rotisserie in about a week.

Billet Specialties leaves no detail unattended. Each hood hinge is precision 3D machined on both sides of the arms for style from any angle. Precision bearing pivots. Stainless button head fasteners attach the hinge assembly to the vehicle offering an atheistically superior look over standard hex head fasteners. Available in polished, black anodized or raw machine finish to match your style. The gas shocks are now included.

Any By the way if your in Arkansas, I'm using D and D Specialty Cars of Van Buren. Check them out. Very impressive shop.
Dale and Stacy Johns run it. From research and what I've seen so far on my build, and his shop full of deep pocket customs, they run a first class operation.
I'll keep it coming.
I viewed body shops and builders all over Arkansas. Never stepped foot in a shop I was impressed with until theirs.

Ok LS7 engine. Had this fidanza aluminum flywheel and LS9 clutch on when I bought it. Found out my tremec magnum along with quick time bell doesn't fit. Not enough room for the Tilton TOB. Measurements show exactly .500 not enough room. Turns out a McLeod clutch would so fine but I want to be able to go with the LS9 clutch. So I'm having a spacer machined .625 thick to go between the bell and the magnum. Besides being able to use the LS9 dual disc clutch I'll also be able to use the Roller Pilot bearing that runs the. Outer edge of the crank rather than the needle pilot bearing deep in the crank.
They make 1/4 and 3/8 spacers but I don't want to sstack them so a machined one at .625 is just what the doctor ordered.
.500 to get to fit and .125 for the TOB airgap. 178442178443

So I got on the LS7 wet conversion today. Swapped oil pump, shimmed it to tolerance. Swapped front cover. Added a Katech C5r timing chain and a Mast Motorsports stroker oil pan kit. Fit is excellent on the pan.
Clears the speedtech pro touring subframe with rack and pinion on the Rear
Got the LS7 on the subframe. Just waiting on my machinist buddy to make my trans to bell spacer and I can install the T56.
After that I'm going to wire it and start it for the first time in the subframe since I'm going crazy waiting for the car to be painted and get off the rotisserie.178845178846178847178848178849

How about just black. And not just any black, but the blackest black any black car has ever been.

A little weekend progress. Got my spacer machined for between the bell and the T56. Make it at .625 and you got room for the Tilton 6000 and an LS9 d disc clutch. I checked deck of spacer torqued to bell for maximum of .005 variance. Averaged ..0039 Made longer dowel pins and such. Checked all clearance t insure I got .125 airgap on my Tilton TOB.
My TOB is all the way screwed down right on the adjustable mount. Good thing about that is if I switch to a McCleod clutch later I got room to stretch it since McCleod is alot shorter than the LS9 clutch.
This. Setup allowed me to run the larger pilot bearing instead of the needle bearing. Great thing about that is way easier to remove when the time comes179536179537179538179539179540179541179542179 543

Zero complaints on speedtech. Absolutely excellent fit, finish , and quality.
I bought my torque arm rear setup from a guy in Ms that didn't finish a build and my front pro touring subframe from a guy in IL that didn't finish his build. Both at about 15% under new cost .
Speedtech is first class.
My power plant come from a Vette that a guy just had juiced up at Late Model Racecraft. Guy just had it done and crashed it. I ga e 8200.00 for it! With all accessories and ECM, pedal and all.

Red truck isn't mine it belongs to another guy. It's in the shop my car was in for paint jail. I can next trip take a few photos. Story is man became real successful and he and his dad used to farm and haul hay with that truck. He had it stretched to crew, widened, and placed on a 2019 F750 chassis. He wanted a NEW truck with warranty. So be and the shop owner Dale Downs with D and D Specialty went to detroit and met ford executive. They said as long as you don't cut a wiring harness or any plumbing whatsoever they would honor the warranty. So there you have it. It's beautiful. D and D us a VERY high quality shop.
I replaced all the metal I could in my shop being floor, trunk, frame rails and tubs, the took to them to paint to save some coin. Mockcked the front and rear suspension and roll cage prior to taking to them also.

Mine was already drilled but my right fender is also drilled for an SS emblem but I'll swap fl an LS7 emblem. Wish they would have welded the up because left fender got replaced and no one said hey
Jason the left fender has no holes and right one has. Five, why do you want to do.
I never thought until I saw it painted.
But that's why I'm going the. LS7 on the side or I'd have none.
I sure am glad I did the white though it's so clean and bright.

Today I painted center section on my torque arm 9" setup. Painted it Stainless Steel so it would match my coil overs.
I also cut my transmission mount apart, shortened it by 1/2" to give clearance between my t56 and tunnel. I used the speed tech tunnel raise kit but it was still tight so I figured that was better than shimming my billet subframe mounts.
Also re shimmed driver door to front fender because when I took the Subframe back out after returning from the body shop it closed up to tight to open the door.190705190706190707190708190709190710

Under the car has two coats raptor. First coat 1 gallon. Second coat 3 quarts.
The Lizard Skin ceramic heat insulator in the car I used 2 gallons and really could have used another half gallon. But I sprayed even up under the areas between the back glass and trunk as well as inside of rear quarters and under the dash as far up as to where paint stops where dash meets windshield.
I didn't spray inside my doors yet. I'm going to just sand them and use some rate can undercoat then dynamat there.

have you mocked up with these yet?
TANKMASTERJ
08-17-2021, 06:55 PM
have you mocked up with these yet?
Yes. The car is built around them. My rear is very narrow. 52 7/8" narrow. The rear wheels were mocked with a 3" spacer. To get me where I want to be and compensate for the 6.97 backspace. I'm going to use the spacers as to mill off a few thousands or 1/8 or whatever to fine tune where I want them. Then I'll re barrel the rears accordingly. I did that because I got the ZX3r wheels for 2800 new. .
I want 315 on rear but they are long back orders nkw so 295s are temporary.
The height of them is I built the car for a 26" front height and a 28" rear. I had 24.5 fronts and 25.5 rears and it was way to low and I had to floor jack to get it on my challenger CL10v3 lift. That was t going to work for me and it had really no rake or stance. So alot of math and tape measure on to conclude what I really wanted.

Ok I wanted to start wiring. So I mocked up the vintage air unit and removed. Enlarged the bulkhead wiring hole and mocked up the. AAW wiring bulkhead. I then realized I need to mock up the clutch kit from bowler.
I didn't like the geometry or how offset it was from the factory hole. So I sliced the bowler bracket shortened 1/2" and slid it t the center of the car 3/8" for perfect alignment. Re drilled the clutch pin hole for the master rod and all works flawless.
Now remove all that and begin dynamat extreme.
I got the first box of dynamat empty. My paint guy got a box and. Applied to the inside of roof. The balance made it from under the dash where the defrost tubes hit to about the front of my shift hole.

I bought this billet AC bulkhead plate from cwylie here on ptf if not mistaken. And I really wanted to use. It. The billet plate with all the stainless steel bolts matches my hood vents install, my Forgeline, and the general industrial theme for my build. Now I'll get fresh black gloss powder coat on it and mount up the vintage ac so I can move on with wiring.191886191887191888191889

Finally got my Ac bulkhead plate successfully mounted and the vintage unit in behind the dash. Put both in and out more than a dozen times. Such a tight fit with a bulkhead. On a. First gen. I didn't want to loose my speaker hole at the kick panel area.
Hard to get good photos under the dash today.
But celebrate small victories. This has. Been a pain in the ass and i found out about the Eaton ez clip hose after I made hoses.
First I cut and welded hard lines, all 4 out of aluminum but when the bulkhead was installed my port threads on the back side. Male was too short and the nuts on the hard lines bottoms out before the oring seals. I built all that on the shop table with a jig and even had the bulkehead mounted exactly as would be in the car. I just didn't take into account the firewall thickness with new metal, mud and Dynamat extreme.
So I scrapped all those and made 4 crimped hoses192098192099192100192101

Since my paint shop left it open to run vintage air through but I used a bulkhead so I left that open.

Ice man
I'm actually going to run it across the firewall on purpose. But I'll use some billet clamps to secure it nice and straight. Also planning to run the lighting harness and the little bit of of AAW engine harness out of the firewall bulkhead and rather than hide it behind the driver fender I'm thinking of of running it up to my no Speedtech on dowmtubes from firewall out to subframe then to headlights and such. Also secured by billet clamps. I'm leaving them show on purpose along with my heat and ac
Lines. If you look at my hood vents, my ac bulkhead, my forgelines all have stainless button head or socket head allen's. This is to achieve an industrial look as I am a water tower construction outfit so we are industrial.
Even my interior parts like door handles, ac vents and such all carry this theme.
I know it's contrary to alot of high end builds but it's my scope and plan

Fuse box is mounted flush with bottom of the dash right under over box. Fabbed a quick bracket of stainless for it.

A little night time work on brake lines. Got them all run and drilled and clamped with stainless steel bolts and 3/16 clamps.
Also went to put my C and R radiator in and found it , with the original came with it spal fans, will not clear my Wegner Motorsports accessories drive. So I'm going to mount it tomorrow without fans and measure for clearance. Maybe some low profile spal fans will fit.194543194544194545194546194547

something is wrong with you.
I am actually enjoying it and I just hope all of it works when I am ready to start the car.
I was surprised when everything with my harness worked! The one gotcha for me was the neutral safety wires didn’t get connected originally.

Thanks Brett,
What harness did you run?
My psi had wrong connector for both VSS and Oil Pressure. Of course it's not there fault. They told me we'll, Tremec uses a ford style sensor in the non F body magnums so you just have to cut it and splice. I said well I ordered telling you all what I have in your order sheet and was ear I got a standard Tremec T56 magnum.

I'm using AAW classic update on the car
PSI # 1037 for LS7 for the LS Harness.
The harness looks to be nice quality but a couple wrong plugs sucks. But several told me to go Speartech or BP automotive.
Should have listened.
I still need to buy a fan controller and a fuel pump controller.
Seems the list never ends.

A little more late night madness running stainless steel tubing ( 3/8) front to back for fuel feed. I'm running GM style zl1 returnless pump with corner pickups all supplied by and added to a Ricks Stainless tank.
Now I can just do a short braided flex hose from stainless hardline to tank and see up front to fuel rail.
Also flipped fuel rail around to passenger side.
Haven't decided whether to cut the hardline off down at base of firewall or up high level with fuel rail.
See it sticking up next to my down tube bars?
Any thoughts on it?
Remember I'm after an industrial look not a perfect clean engine bay ot car for that matter.
See close up of the vents as well.

Also need to decide on seats and door panels. Thinking about door panels Le this attachment photo from mci and one of these two corbeau seats. Then have tears wrapped to match.
I think the door panels with lots of white and then the black where my greasy motorhead prints will be is a plus and has the black white pop the entire car has. Along with the black seats with white diamond stitch for some more industrial pop.
Opinions welcomed.

First I love the hard lines and maybe on version 3.0 I will try to bend stainless lines.
As for the "Hard" fuel line coming up the firewall I would definately mount it low on the fire wall with a bracket and then run a soft line that is at least 12" to 16" long to compensate for movement as these old cars flex a bunch.

As for the hardlines Marty, order the pre bent tube from Inline Tube in 3/8" stainless. It comes in a box about 4' tall with long radius bends. Pull it out of the box and I worked it slow and steady and threaded it over my lift arms and under my car working and clamping as I went . Took about 6 hours to get it all right and tidy but probably easier than trying to bend from scratch .

Got al the AC condenser and drier in. Made hoses with Eaton EZ Clip hose and fittings. Very easy to build the hoses. Very nice quality.
Still got to run the heater hoses and waiting on an fittings.
Then radiator hoses. I wanted to use Autoplumb fittings to go to AN for radiator but radiator is to tight to subframe toake that work so it's. Either fabricate SE stainless or don't some oem hoses that fit.

Ok
So the Vintage AC Servo motor shown here with Auto Plumb adapters to get from barbed nipples to AN-10. I used them on water pump also.
Gauge pack wired and ready to install.
Made a ground bus in the dash behind column to put all interior grounds to. Had to cut plugs off of AAW harness and Flaming River Steering column and used male female at blade connectors. Got my Auto cool guy fan controller installed and wired.
Used a 16gauge/12 conductor SOOW which is an outdoor wet area shielded cable. It runs through the passenger door jamb out through firewall behind fender to the fan controller, AC, VA Servo motor, and I got 4 conductors left.
Also mounted a positive buss bar by fan controller. Wil run the battery cable #2 from trunk to this buss bar. Then from the buss bar to the starter solenoid. I'm using #2 red welding cable for hot and black ground.
Next I've installed an EATON 5 relay panel from BP automotive. It's got 5 fused and 5 relayed circuits. I mounted it in the trunk. No photo yet. I'll use it for the following circuits:
1 LS Keyed ECM Hot
2. ZL1 fuel pump
3. Heated passenger seat
4. Heated driver seat
5. Rain gear wipers.
This way I have a relay on all five of those circuits. And it's got 5 separate fused small gauge positive wires you can run small load circuits. I'll run to a switch ( heated seat) and from that switch to the relay triggers. And from relay output to heated seat.
Secondly I've got a Waytek 150amp solid state contactor. Using in between this panel and my battery. That contactor is going to be controlled via an RF remote control 12v hot good for 20amps. That gives me a remote control that shuts down my LS ECM feed and my LS ZL1 fuel pump. Though the car could technically still crank, with no ECM power and No Fuel Pump she won't run to
Finally for Fusing of the Crank circuit I'll use a battery mounted 300Amp Blue Sea Marine breaker built on the battery. It's a dual unit so one half feeds the Start Solenoid and the other feeds the secondary Eaton Fuse Panel.
Pictures will post as soon as I get it wired.

TKX - still running the Super t10 currently but the TKX is same spline count and such

Jason, I just went through your thread. I'll start with small stuff. I had a 1990 cbr600 hurricane so we have some shared knowledge. I appreciate the fact that you used Lizard skin on the inside and covered it with sound mat. I think you will find the sound mat to be the best that you installed. I have had several white rods and I was told several times that white as a color does little for a build so if you didn't do the rest of it correct, you missed out. You have done well. Many years ago, a friends wife told me that I was lucky because I could do my own work. At the time, I didn't think about it much. I'm not able to do everything real well but it does get done in a timely manner. After reading your thread and seeing how excited you were to have the car back in your hands, it has shed some more light on the subject. :) Congratulations on your progress and I hope your start up goes with out incident. I believe the 1st corner you go into at more than 20 mph will tell you if you made all the right choices correctly. Hot rods for many of us are a reflection on who we are. When you are standing next to it and smiling, I hope those that know you can see what actually happened. You mentioned the tkx as a possible replacement. I have about 200 miles on mine. I'm aware of when I shift into 2nd gear. :) It reminds me of a 3650 in many ways. I had a 3550 in my 32 that reminded me of a Ford top loader 4 speed in more ways than not. I have no idea what your goal was in thinking about the trans change, I just thought I would add that thought. Again, great job and best wishes for the 1st drive. :)

Ok I fabricated a simple bracket to install a 69 clutch safety switch on my 67. I know many people don't use one but I like the idea of it.
Secondly got my EATON 5 relay panel in the trunk and my Waytek solid state contactor. It will be remote control for theft protect. Of the 5 relays 3 are wired to be hot with IGN on. That's one for ECM switched, one for Stereo Amp Switched and one for Raingear Wipers. The other two are to heated seats 1 and 2 and won't be hot until you turn on the seat switch.
After all that crawling around in the trunk I went to finish the hushmat. Ran out at the back of the trunk needing about 6 square feet more.
Fuel pump is also wired in along with fuel sender.196704196705
Also started on wiring in front of the firewall.
Cannot wait to hear it crank. Hopefully next weekend.
I also made battery cables from trunk over he passenger wheel tub. Down to channel above rocker on passenger side. They will penetrate the firewall below vintage air as soon as pass through bulkhead parts arrive. I'll post pics of battery on cables and pass through after installed fully.

Yes I'll have a hidden switch for just in case but I'm running a hidden remote with a Key Fob. I tried finding a quality remote and key fob that wasn't china. No luck so far bjt did find one that I can hide pretty easily and it handles 20 amps.. the Intek contactor came from a company called Waytek. They make it in several amperage largest being 200a.

So. Taking white lightning out to the exhaust shop. Plan is 3" stainless with Borla XR1s. If they don't look right being center in and out I'll do something else. Also will figure out whether we will do an X pipe or?? Since I got a Speedtech rea torque arm.

I really love that car ! Congrats Jason.
Before going with turbos, I had an H pipe just between the torque arm crossmember and the transmission crossmember, it was a 2.5" pipe but I think 3" could fit

Exhaust almost done just a little adjusting, tighten clamps and ready for the next phase. Got to rebarrell my forgelines to get the front in another inch.
Ready to start all but Wegner Motorsports custom valve covers. When they arrive she will start.
Cudos to APE, Arkansas Performance Exhaust. Zach over there is doing my car.

Looks good. When we start out, we have lots of room. You put a few parts in and then there's no room. :)

Progress has been slow. Waiting on forgeline barrels as I had to re barrell the wheels. ZX3Rs bought from a beamer. They were 18X10 front and back with 6.5 backspace. However I needed a front backspace of 7" and a rear of 3.5. I knew this upon purchase but I thought it was a deal. Turns out I'm spending almost as much. Maybe saved a grand but that's still a savings.
Got my Hertz speakers under the package tray last night.198932198933198934198935
Also Wegner Motorsports sent me a picture yesterday of my custom valve covers. They shipped yesterday headed way. As soon as they arrive I get to do a first start up.
