Also a couple pics of the coolant pipes. Upper is 1.25 diameter and lower is 1.5" with a 3/8" bungs for water temp sender.
I've got se run videos as soon as I figure out how to post.

Yes they are killer. The accessories drive also.
Hats off to Wegner Automotive guys and specifically Ben in Engineering who helped get the design I wanted.
Those guys make great stuff. And unlike holley accessories drive this was made in USA. I'm not knocking holley, I know there drives and valve covers are nice stuff. I just like to buy USA when I can.

Ok so my Nuke Performance Catch cans are here.
One is mounted but not plumbed. For those of you looking for one, Nukes is hands down the nicest machined catch can I've ever laid yes on. Has two inputs and one out put. Can be plumbed outlet to atmosphere or recirculating.
Also a drain on the bottom. Can was 316.00 bucks plus a 27.00 drain valve and hose. Worth every single penny.

They have a carbon fiber can, a performance can and a competition can. Get the competition, it's got better filtration and you can loosen the base from the top hat and rotate the can 360 for making fittings connect where you want them. Also has a bullet dipstick.

Installed my driver seat. Seats are Braum Alpha X.
Very nice for a vinyl I got no complaints. Will test drive tomorrow.
Also got my center dash piece in it's Anvil Carbon.
I have to say both the mirrors and center dash are anvil and I'm not that impressed with the qualities.
Seriously the mirrors you got to glue the bracket in that holds it to the car and you glue the bezel in. Both with epoxy but for the price just not impressed. The center dash you don't get anything to attach it to the car. Undrilled holes because my entire build is stainless bolts everywhere so it's ok. But it still needs a rubber windlace around the outer perimeter.

Well after a commercial napa 930 CCA struggles to start my high compression LS7. Im wavered on a single North Star with 1130 CCA or just run 2 Continentals that I had already new. They are 680 each. So I used my original battery tray and a new dynacorn tray and fabbbed a bracket out of 3X5X1/4" thick angle I had and mounted it between my bolt in cage.
And instead of a battery number from one to the other I just ran another #2 up to the firewall bulkhead. So each battery has its own hot to the firewall.

Well I'm not great at pictures but here the Spoilers by Randy added today.
I like if for a bought one. It still like to add a custom pro touring one later but for now this works200966200967200968
Also having a little driveability issues. Like several have had in older posts I read when in the throttle and letting off or down shifting up to a stop light it wants to die. Runs great at idle, part throttle over half throttle even WOT but then falls on its nose when I let off. I'm using the E38. Haven't had any tuning done yet other than the ECU came from a wreck z06 that ingot as a package.
Considering Gwatney Performance little rock unless someone has another in central Arkansas that's good.
Also got to fab a stainless grill still yet and install seatbelts and rear seat. Got side glass, door panels and hardware and cold ac!

If you plug in a generic code reader that has live data so that you can confirm all of the sensors are working, it's very likely your tune. I'm sure that you have added several parts that weren't in the original tune so getting it adjusted will be key. Love that spoiler.

I had a problem with my car stalling upon slowing down after I pressed the clutch in coming to a stop/light. I found out it had something to do with DFCO- deceleration fuel cut off. I'm not running a GM ecm, using a Fitech 70050.

Not sure if this is your issue but maybe worth a little investigating or having a qualified tuner check this out.

Question on your seats, and how tall are you? Im wondering how you are feeling about your driving position?
I am 6'3" with similar style seats. 300 miles in now and just feel like I am sitting a little high. Considering making a change but outside of a major change at the base probably my only option is removing the slider and going to a fixed location. That would probably put me about an inch lower.

Bad news I'm only 5 10. Braum Alpha X racing seats with there sold planted brackets fit me perfect. But I have tracks mounted as far back as they go. A taller guy would struggle with my setup. Probably have to remove the planted brackets or have to chop them down and re fab to make it happen.
I had the pro car 90 seats and brackets, they did with lower

Alright guys I'm building out my amp and stereo setup and my rear shoulder belts. setup201936201937201938
Now I ordered morris classic shoulder belt kit for the rear. I want to say outstanding kit and quality but it wouldn't work with my ridetech bolt in cage and my custom package tray. So rather than mount the shoulder ratchets on the outside of the car I mounted both in the center between the speakers and fabbed up appropriate bracing under the package tray out of 2X2x 1/4 aluminum angle tying the two ratchets to each other and then 1/4" X2" flat from that down to my battery trays which is made of 3X5 aluminum angle and bolted between the cage points in the trunk. I didn't get good pics of the mount or the ratchet part of the belts installed but will add those tomorrow.
For stereo I'm trying the Mark 4 out of sight audio and running a Hertzs HCP 5D amp. I've got Hertz Milles for the deck in 6X9s and Hertz Milles for the kick panels but I've yet to install those.
As for the cars driveability I had issues with limp mode at 6 grand and no matter what we did tuning it wouldn't leave. Engine came with a gold blade TB when I got it. Ran the VIN and it called for the Silver Blade. Read forums online where other guys had the same issue trying to go to the gold. Depending on which E38 they had. So swapped to the silver blade, did a TB re learn and wallah it runs hard to 7500 now.
Still got a slight lean issue on back one due to very tiny hairline cracks on the runners right behind the intake bolts. Will be swapping to probably an MSD.
Or do you guys think Fast or MSD. I don't care about max effort at 7500 or 8 grand. It's a street car that will see auto x, drag and a little road racing. But predominantly street so I need torque and power 3 -7500.

Can't go wrong with either, the MSD typically make a little more HP, just be sure you have enough hood clearance and which one works with your current fuel rails.

So my Speedtech torque arm rear end 9" leaked at both ends. Mine had the roller outer sealed bearings. So I decided to re engineer a little. So I installed the winters performance #2842 gold billet aluminum axle tube seals to keep the oil in the center section. I then drilled and tapped 1/8"-27 holes in the ends of the tubes between where the original inner axle seals went and the sealed roller bearing. I installed a 90 grease fitting here right on top. So I then installed the original national axle tube seal, and then removed the inner plastic seal on the roller bearing so it will receive the grease. So my grease fitting puts grease in between the original style tube seal and the now open side of the roller bearing.
It's .625 cavity there.
I'm now keeping oil in the center and greasable outers separate by the two styles axle tube seals.
What do you guys think?203666203667203668203669203670

I'm sure you know this but if you over lube a bearing, it will overheat and fail. I fought a leaky bearing as you did. I replaced the oring numerous times. Only by accident did I pull on the axle flange and find out there was slack in the bearing. It was starting to fail. After replacing the bearing, the leak went away. In my purchases of new bearings in the last 15 years, I'm right at a 20% failure rate. New parts make me nervous anymore. Some brands are worse than others but none are like it was when I was young. :)

Yes
Lip seals can fail typically around 500psi. Trick is don't over lubricate. Good thing in my design if I pump just a little bit much it will pass the lip seals and merely get on the dry zone of my axle. Once a year a few pumps will be sufficient but I do have a pressure gauge setup on my battery powered grease guns for certain applications.
To prove just how strong grease under pressure is with a cup seal we tighten tracks on dozers and all track machine we own with grease. But the cup is pointing towards the grease fitting. In this car application the cup points the other way towards the oil end or center section to keep oil out of the grease. Thus even lowering the pressure it would take to bypass the seal.
Case in point your correct.
But I have considered this and engineered my design around your line of thought along with several others.

Well I started with one nuke performance catch can, and excellent excellent quality. But I had valve covers and valley cover both plumbed into it. Then I separated the valley cover and just looped it back like factory. Then I decided to add a second so the valve covers and the valley cover pcv had its own.
Again if anyone wants some very nice billet catch cans, nuke performance has race cans, performance cans, and even carbon fiber cans.203760203761203762203763

Having spent a 28 year career in bearings.....
Your relubrication feature should work fine. One challenge with the design is the cavity space on the lubrication entry side is quite large vs. the void space in the bearing. There are a ton of variables here, but.....
1) Due to the design of the inboard seal vs. the outboard seal of the bearing, grease is going to tend to work outboard. Most of the axle seal designs are a double opposing lip design, whereas the seal on the bearing will easily deflect outboard and allow grease to purge. This is normal and often expected on sealed type bearings. It's going to purge what it does not want.
2) Though over-lubrication is often a serious problem, it typically occurs when the dN (rolling element pitch diameter * RPM) is high. A drive axle is a relatively slow application, and likely excessive grease will purge before an overheat condition occurs.
What can be done that is quite effective is to fill the bearing full of grease, and then fill the cavity space about 50% full/about to the axle bottom of grease. Excess from the bearings will purge inboard. There will be 50X+ more grease in the cavity than what the bearing comes with from the manufacturer. As speed and heat dictate, fresh grease will flow into the bearing. In a bearing that size there's likely 3-4cc's as the standard fill volume. In other words, no need to ever re-lubricate unless the axle is removed. Then everything should be cleaned and re-lubricated. The same basics can be applied to a stock front hub with double tapered roller bearings (fill the hub 1/2 full).

Ok, Long Story but 67 camaro with Early 2008 LS& with E38 ECM Swap. Came out of a burned wreck with new intake and injectors, throttle body etc.
Car ran great to almost WOT and about 6K Plus had limp mode every pull. After much tuning crap and hair pulling, I discovered that what I had came with a gold blade later LS3 style throttle body. My Earlier VIN Vette LS7 actually came with a Silver Blade Throttle Body, so I ordered one, swapped, did a throttle relearn and she ran like a top into over 7 grand no REP, no Limp, no Dead Pedal. For about 3 months. Then one evening while driving home from church, I had an all of the sudden tail lights go out and fuse pop. So tracked that to an extra insulated Jacket Male Connector I had left hanging that touched ground. It was feeding the hot to my gauge pack. So when it happened I lost all Dash and Gauge Lights as well as Tail Lights.
On the way home while driving AFTER that happened i hit Limp Mode Dead Pedal in 4th gear in a slight pull.
Didnt think much about it but came in the shop, found the Male Connector Shorting out on the Steering Column, Plugged it with a dummy female, replace Fuses and all was fine.
Except the Dead Pedal. Now if I turn Key On, Cycle Pedal, Pedal goes immediately Dead with Codes P0122, P1516 and P2135.
Now P1516 I was seeing with the old Gold Throttle Blade.
So I did a Throtte Relearn and no change. But If I turn Key On , Cycle Pedal, then Run Diagnostic with HP Scan, Then Start and run it runs great for a little while, then randomly back to Dead Pedal all the Way, or REP Limp Mode then Dead Pedal.
Could my lit e Wire Short Deal somehow Shorted out my Pedal or Throttle Body TPS or TAC??
All was Fine until that Incident.
. The Wire that shorted out is in the Car Harness, Nothing to do with the Swap Harness. Fused Separately and all.
Any Help appreciated.

Can't you ohm out all 3 of those items and see if one is your problem??
we were having the same issue with a 05 Tahoe with the 5.3, but it still needs a relearn,

Work on battery kill switches. I added 2. One for each trunk mounted battery. I can run on either charge either etc. So if i got an event or a gathering I can run sound system on one and have a hot one to start on. With both on both charge pretty evenly. The hots are both 2 gauge welding wire from trunk to bulkhead hot pass through at firewall.
Alternator charge wire is 4 gauge from alternator to firewall bulkhead pass through.
Right battery ground goes up front to bulkhead pass through like the + through firewall. The Left battery is grounded to the first and to the chassis.
Dual hot cables on left battery 1 to Sound System Amp, 1 to bulkhead + at firewall. Right battery has 1 Hot cable to Inpower 200amp solid state switch and 1 to bulkhead up at firewall. The 200amp Inpower switch feeds a 10 fuse and 5 relay fuse panel in trunk that handles heated seat circuits, several console circuits, fuel pump, and sound system circuits.
Since my radio is an all blue tooth in trunk, I utilized the two radio circuits in the AAW harness for the electronic E Brake as it needs a hot all the time ( used radio clock yellow wire ) and a hot with ignition on wire ( radio key on power brown wire ) both of which are fused for 10amp like E Stopp needs.

Now working on the center console. I ordered from Modern Classic Interiors. Took threatening emails and filing a claim with paypal to finally get it 6 months later. But he shorted me the billet ring brothers shift ring and leather boot. But at least I got the console. Now it's fit to the car and I pulled center out to paint. Main console wrapped in black vinyl. Center from AC vents to cell phone pocket will be white to match car and dash and have a black striped down the middle for some pizzazz.
Ive got 5 switches sandwiched in the console storage.
1 for E brake, 1 for dome light in console, 1 for each of the 2 power ports ( got one 12v cigarette lighter style and 1 dual usb style) , and a fuel pump switch. To with fuel pump switch I can key on and do programing no and such without fuel pump running.

What did you find wrong with your electrical problem from a few months ago?
My little spare hot ignition wire I left hanging around , when it touches ground it fried my 650.00 GM silver blade throttle body
So I replaced it with a Dorman aftermarket for $150.00. that cured it.

Jason, now that the end is near, do you see anything that you would want to change? I'm curious because I often hear there is something we missed or we're disappointed in that we purchased. :).
Well,
That's tough question. For starters I would have ordered a real deal steel Camaro to body complete in epoxy primer already minitubbed. That would have been alot cheaper. Secondly I would have done way more mock up on everything.
Thirdly i would have done all the body and paint because I would have been happier in the end and I would have saved that money for a professional interior job.
Because what i wasted on body and paint, and I got milked, I could have done just as good of a job, and my end result is very nice, but I got milked to get there.
I enjoyed all the build that i did myself which was everything but mud and paint and the little metal work they did around the window channels and such. All that cash I blowed on them taking forever I could have bought the new body.
I'm happy with all my chassis, brakes, engine, all that.
I probably would have done LS3 instead of the LS7 because of economics but that story is in my build thread.
I would have done flush glass.
That's about it I think.

Jason, that's a good answer. Specially the economics of this hobby. Continual growth is an important part of life. If you choose to do another, you will have some idea of time and effort to make the decisions easier. I finished my last project last summer. Most of the parts were purchased in 2021. I've been looking at prices since the 1st of the year and have been surprised several times at the size of increases. It has really changed my mindset about another. :)

You make some great point Jason!
The new body is definitely something to consider in the future. There is a shop in Texas that builds them and will even do a wide body...which I'd have to see in person and look over.
Paint and body...OMG! I never thought I'd have issues in this department. I'd definitely paint mine if I still had a shop to use.
Flush glass is still something to consider, but imo the bottom of the windshield pillars has to be squared off for it to look right.
You have a great car man, still want to get down there and see it in person sometime.

Car was build for 315-40-18 nitto 555g2 but couldn't get them during covid. So I ordered it the 295s I drag radials and street tread both. When those wear out I'll go to the 315s.

Added a radiator expansion tank from Radium engineering. Very nice billet piece setup to take steam line from head, return that back to either water pump or radiator and also can plum existing radiator overflow into it. Has sight glass. Works great. I run it half full. It expands to full in sight glass when hot, and back to half when cooled down. 207349207350207351

So literally
Words cannot describe the help I have received here from all of you. If I name names I'll miss several or many. Probably. I'll bet 30 guys have commented and impacted my build. From choices of parts to how to's to troubleshooting.
A gigantic thanks to all of this PTF community. You guys rock. I would like to see more guys post in the section that has the regionals and states you are from and more guys post when your going to LS Fest or Good Guys type events. I'd sure like to meet some in person.
Again many thanks to all of you.
I'm looking for another candidate now but for a less intense build that I can pound on and not want to cry when I scratch it lol.
All I lack on finishing my build on White Lightning a 100% is sun visors, rear view mirror, dome light in headliner, and some minor touch up.

Yes and I already have so many tiny rock chips. I didn't realize how bad these wide sticky tires cause it. I'm thinking run a couple years and when the lower quarters and rocker look crappy, to have them re shot and blended then have that applied. I'm thinking maybe it's too late now I'm I don't really know.
joeko23
05-29-2023, 03:27 PM
That sucks! My painter said to wait at least 6 months before applying the PPF to make sure the paint fully cures and airs out. Wow that means I can’t drive the car because I’ll def get rock chips.

Added a Mamo ported MSD, NW103 and 850 injectors.
Now for a tune and I'm going to try GPI in Jacksonville Arkansas as I wasn't ever fully happy with my last tune.
Also had clearance issues with the MSD and my Wegner accessories drive. So I purchased some Supercharger intercoolers .400 thick spacers. They sell them for insulated supercharger applications but was just what I need to clear the water pump and stuff. Included a pic of those on the heads.

That Square body sounds nice. I'm keeping my eyes out for a solid bodied truck to build too. Either that or a late 80s F150.
Sold my 68 Camaro a few years ago now, and picked up a 55 Nomad project. I've got a build thread here, it's taken a lot of work to get it to where it is now.

Ok so I'm tinkering again. I installed my LS7 emblems and I think they look pretty good. I also cut a grille pit of some aluminum mesh. I lined the outer perimeter with se black rubber for the pop effect next to the aluminum grille and white grille surround.

As I've said before, everything looks super nice and clean! Very well done, Jason!
Is the grille surround a stock Chevy piece? I don't think I've seen that version before. Or maybe I just notice it because it's white. I haven't seen the aerodynamic rounded inlet design before (I think).

Henrik,
It's a custom piece that somewhat mimics a 69 by being inset rather than flat like a 67. A guy used to make these and sell them on eBay and then he vanished!
