Air intake through radiator support

Considering running 4inch air intake tube through the rad support to a 90 with a kn cone filter at the end. Anyone done or seen pics of this before ? Pros cons ?

Pro is that you get ambient temp air at slightly higher pressure when car is moving kinda like a properly set up cowl induction. Be sure it's in an area where it won't get wet in bad weather.

Yep considering beside headlight but high enough to not suck water.. the other option is directly under where the battery would be but that feels risky for water... I purchased the Spectre heat shield but don’t really like the look so looking for alternatives

that's what I did. I relocated the battery to the trunk. cut a hole where the battery used to sit and mounted the air filter directly ahead of the tire. also built some extra heat shielding around it to further isolate from the engine compartment. then routed my 4 inch air tube over to it.

result is my air temps are typically never more than 10-15 deg over ambient when at a stand still. when moving it's right at ambient temperature.

i never drive the car in the rain so water was never a concern.

Have you looked at the Spectre and Airaid kits? They don't go through the support, but they tuck up into the corner and come with a heat shield. The Spectre kit uses a polished aluminum tube.

not sure which LS you have but you can use the rotofab from a 5th gen Camaro. I did this with my LSA and 69 Camaro had to trim a little but it does fit very well. You can see a pic of it in my Build thread below. I’m on my cell so I can’t post a pic right now. And you can buy a used rotofab fairly cheap on camaro5.com.

I haven't really paid attention to intake temps, but here's a screenshot of a datalog with the car up to temp, and the intake temp is pretty well at ambient. I believe I took this is a datalog from a rolling start to WOT through 2nd and 3rd gear. (sorry the image is rotated)

Tuning actually involves putting in compensation values for changes in air temperature.

I would try to get it out of the engine compartment if f possible. It’s still
Sucking hot air even with the shield.
