I need a fusible link for my ls2 alternator. I think the fusible link should be a #8, but it haven’t had any luck finding a link that large. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Fusible link? Thought of midi fuse...Does the factory even use fusible links anymore?

Fusible links were for low amp alternators in older cars. Your power demand is too high for small gauge wires. My factory wire coming off the alternator was like 10-12g. Now with the LS the wire is 4ga. Considerably thicker.

Something like this. They provide one with their wiring kit

American Autowire classic update kit comes with an alternator fusible link. You can probably get one from them.

I was a little surprised to find a fusible link, myself.

I may have to use a fuse, but it will need to be somewhere around 200 A, I believe. I'm not as familiar with automotive wiring, but I think the guidance is somewhere between 135% and 300% of device rating. Typically you size the protective device for the conductor, but I've yet to find a solid reference for automotive wire ampacity.

I suppose worst case I can splice this one back into the wire I have, and hope it never fails :)

Is it for a high amp alternator or stock?

No idea but I assume higher than stock for a classic update kit. I have used it in several LS builds without issue....

If you use a fuse I think you will also have to derate it for the high under hood ambient temperature.

I emailed American Autowire, and they don't offer a primary lead that size. They pointed me to Powermaster, but they don't use fusible links in their alternator primary leads. The tech I spoke with at Powermaster said they don't see fusible links used anymore and suggested a fuse may be the way to go.

^^ yup. So does painless. If I was home I would get the amp rating for you.
