      your best guess?

Ok, I need some help I found this pic in Hemmings about a year ago and saved it just in case. the car is a 61 and my car is 62 pretty much the same. I really like the tire combo and have been racking my brain and the tire calculator trying to figure out just what size the rears are.I called the owner and he was no help car had been sold and he couldnt remember or care for that matter. it was a stock rear set up. the ad says 18/17 rear /front w/michelins but thats it. any one want to take an educated guess. Man this is driving me nuts.

man,by that picture?? you'd have better odds having someone guess how much cash bigfoot had in his back pocket in this movie...

but since we are all professionals who love cars i'd have to go with wide rear and skinnier fronts.... sorry I just woke up.

im just going to try the rears...judging by the information you posted in the Nova thread and my expert knowlege of those years, my guess starts with the side wall height...it would have to be tall 45-60 series, now judging the width, I know its a stock rear and am assuming no crazy body modifications since it is an Alloway built car. Now combining the fact that a 285 will fit without major mods and searching Micheline...after exstensive photo analasis and enhancing with the factual tire sizes available in a 18". I will guess its either a 255 50 18...275 45 18... 285 50 18...275 50 18...but 285 40 18 which is a 27" tall tire, it seems to be the best SWAG (scientific wild ass guess)... im pretty sure it will get you into the ball park.

Mr. Quick, thanks for your help. the owner advertised it was an Alloyway car but fact was it was an eomplyee of Alloyways. Ive tryed measuring the rears to scale nowing that the rim was 18". I think you guess has got to be real close. Thanks Again

That rear tire looks mighty tall, in the range of 28" or so. My SWAG would have to be a 305/45/18, which is about 28.8" tall, and has a very similar sidewall. Check out pics of the tire on this Nova: http://popularhotrodding.com/features/0505phr_ven/
      More pics:

Now, with that being said, there are two problems, as I don't think Michelin makes a 305/45/18 (nitto may be the only manufacturer that makes this size, or atleast one of the few that do) and it looks like it wouldn't fit in a stock setup. But, if you've got the room, it seems a 305/45/18 would give you your desired look.

Wel, I e-mail bobby alloway and he was able to help a little with the rim size 18/10 17/7 sure wish I could figure out a rear tires size.I went and looked at a 285/40/18 but I think the side walls are to short compared to the picture.I think there are a 60 seriers tire.

If they're 18x10s, then I'm going to stand by my original guess of 305/45/18. The tires on that car can't be much taller than these, as they're nearly 29" tall, and if you look at the pics, they look nearly identical in sidewall size.

For what it's worth, a 285/60/18 would be 31.4" tall, and have 6.7" of sidewall; seems a bit high to me.

Ralph, I think the car you posted is exactly or real close to the size they just dont seem to readily available. I dropped off the pic to a freind that runs a tire store. since he looks at tires all day I hope he can help.

First, let me say I'm just trying to help, and I am not claiming to be an expert by any means. I editted the photo and figured out that the sidewall height is a little over half of what half of the rim height is. Meaning since half the rim height is 9", half of that is 4.5" and the sidewall is a little more than that. Approx. 4.7"-4.8" when scaled. See pic. With that being said, a 305/40/18 tire has a sidewall height of 4.8". That would be my guess on the tire size.
      Thanks

Rodney @ Steve Cook's said they were 285/60's.

Tim,emailing them is almost a waste of time. Call them at (405) 631-3432.

That 61 has a Morrison frame with custom floor and wheel tubs. Steve told me those wheels & tires are just on the car for rolling it around the shop. Think it's going to end up with some one-off Boyds.

The frame in the pic at least the rear section is the stock frame.they must have changed it out after that pic was taken.
