View Full Version : Rear sway bar only with big/little tires?

I'm building a typical '32 hotrod. It's got a dropped I beam up front and a parallel 3 link/panhard out back. It has a large difference in front/rear tread widths. I expect it to have a lot of understeer when it hits the road. A rear sway bar would be pretty simple to add. Is this a combination that could be improved with just a rear bar?

You have huge rear tires and super skinny front tires and you're worried about handling? LOL...

You could never put enough rear sway bar on to balance the handling with that tire package. I can't see your PHB in any of the pics but I am guessing roll center is high enough that you wouldn't notice if the bar was there or not.
Is your frame not boxed?

I haven't made up the PHB or mounts yet. Unlike the typical hotrod style (photo is of my wife's '23), the plan has been to do something like a typical Factory Five set up, full width, behind the axle so the height has options. The frame isn't done. It's not an original frame. I started with reproduction rails and a front cross member. It will be boxed.

Love T/As. My Mother had a new '78. My Wife had a matching number tenth anniversary four speed. I still have a black '78 I bought in 1982. I came very close to picking up a matching number, four speed, Buccaneer '73 twenty five years ago but it had rust through near the windshield trim (in El Cajon. CA???) so I decided to pass.

Looks like the spokes are painted so a 78 wheel. Had my 78 since new. Dealer missed the check box for the WS6 but bought all those parts and 1 month too late for the 220hp W72 and an automatic tranny-but picked one of those up if I ever want it like I ordered it. 81 TA I bought as a project I threw together with spare parts and a mild 400 for my kids to drive to high school. So kind of a TA gut myself but like just about everything even street rods.
