View Full Version : Project Corruptt - Ferrari powered 1968 Mustang

This is a 1968 Mustang I started building almost 10 years ago and am now finally going to finish. It has quite a few modification I previously did such as Ridetech air suspension (which will need some updating) shaved cowl vent, door handles, emblems etc. made a trunk spoiler that is laid down, made quarter extensions out of steel and incorporated into the body as well as the rear bumper. Started on the ground effects and most noticeable chopped the top. The car is currently at The media blaster so we can continue the modification necessary to install something a little different under the hood. What we will be running is a Ferrari V8 that will receive a set of turbos as well.

Here is the engine. F430 based but will have quite a few custom touches to make it operate correctly in its new home. Will be running a Ferrari California intake manifold to locate the throttle bodies correctly in a front engine application. Will be runnig Ls 92MM throttle bodies

There is quite a few components that will need to be designed to make this all work. We will be runing a t56 behind the Ferrari v8 so adapters will need to be made. Everything is being designed in CAD to ensure accuracy

I love the fact it's NOT a Coyote swap, the Ferrari mill is quite cool.

I love the fact that it's not a LS swap, a Coyote would be cool, but a Ferrari is even cooler......

That hammered top looks really good. With that Ferrari 430 bullet, that car has the potential to be epic.

Got all the pieces water jetted to adapt the engine. The throttle body flanges will get welded to the intake so I can bolt the LS twin throttle bodies to it. 147061

I agree, looks like a svelte funny car! Wasn't sure at first but the top down view makes it look right.

It makes me think of a rendering, where it's not 100% accurate to the car, but looks awesome. This looks more like an actual rendering than the typical result IRL. Does that make sense?

Cool build! I would definitely consider going with DBW throttle bodies. It will make part throttle tuning much easier with those bit 90mm TBs.

Adapter plate has come back from CNC. we made a water jet plate to confirm measurements first. This will cheange the Ferrari bell housing to a Chevrolet pattern.

love the chopped top ! can you give us some details on it?how much was taken out, front posts leaned back or not, what about the windshield glass? how about the door glass? I have been contemplating a one inch chop on my 67 cougar custom but haven't figured out the door windows yet

It's chopped 2.5" straight down. The windshield is at the stock angle. The rear window has been laided down and flushed and is still the stock size. Windshield will be flush mount glass cut down to fit. Door glass still needs to be figured out. Probably going to use 69 door glass to eliminate the vent window. Door glass material will end up being acrylic

Love the new pics. I have been researching glass for my chop and I think there are several glasses that have a good chance of fitting, Your idea of 69 glass is great also look at 90’s Eldorado 2 door it has a flat top also. I made a cardboard template and hit the local upull-it.

Well, in the same way that his Ferrari engine is a Fiat?
:)
His is actually out of a Maserati.... used the same engine.
The engine cost 4 times more if it came out of a Ferrari (does have a 100 HP more) than what the Maserati engine goes for...
"The F136, commonly known as Ferrari-Maserati engine, is a family of 90° V8 petrol engines jointly developed by Ferrari and Maserati[citation needed] and produced by Ferrari; these engines displace between 4.2 L and 4.7 L, and produce between 390 PS (287 kW; 385 hp) and to 605 PS (445 kW; 597 hp). All engines are naturally aspirated, incorporate dual overhead camshafts, variable valve timing, and four valves per cylinder.
The architecture has been produced in various configurations for cars under those badges as well as for a single Alfa Romeo model. All three companies are owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, formerly Fiat S.p.A. under whom the engine sharing program was organized."
Really nice work-
What are looking at for engine management? I'm thinking the Megasquirt MS3PRO would be the ticket.

I get it. I have a 430. :)
Fiat owned Ferrari and Maserati when the engine was built - Sort of like the Bugatti motor... not really a VW or Audi, but owned by them.
And holy crap, I am not a Ford guy, but love this build.

Holy balls this is awesome! I'm digging the tail you put on it and I like the chop. Have you thought about running Ferrari wheels or something to hint at what's under the hood? Subscribed!

I have to agree with Dan, I'm hoping this car gets a sick set of wheels that this build deserves

I'd rather it have a Coyote power plant . But, the custom touches look pretty cool. I like the rear spoiler, and though I'm not usually a fan of chopped tops, you made it look good. Good luck going forward.

147448147449The engine is in and fits. I am going to keep the shock towers as I have most of the Ridetech suspension and don't want to start over. Plus I am pretty sure it will sit a bit lower with the Ridetech system as well. Also surprisingly fits under the stock flat hood

So cool, I love how you integrated the LS throttle bodies and tied them together. I was also thinking the same about the headers but given the level of fabrication in this thread no doubt you will come up with a solution. Keep the updates coming.

working on making clearance for the t56 and getting the right angle. Also have the driver side of the manifold fitted with injectors and machined the holley fuel rail to work.147639147640147641147642147643

I second the question on the T56 / Ferrari combo.
Very cool work you're doing.
I'd like to hear this Ferrari block roar, with the side pipes and all...
