I just made a post on ROP so I'm just going to be lazy and cut and paste it...

So after the better part of 2 years or saving/ordering/waiting (repeat) I finally got a major suspension/brake/wheel done on my car. The motor and trans was done about 4 years ago and I had the motor build on here at some point but it seems to have been deleted. Anyway its a 488.

I dealt with Mark from SC&C on all the parts minus the torque converter. Mark was beyond helpful and great to deal with so big shout out to SC&C.

I've owned the car for about 5 years now and have been driving it less and less since the motor got done because I felt unsafe driving me and my family around in it... The car just has way to much power for the suspension and brakes to handle. So after countless hours talking to and emailing SC&C and a mountain of money later heres what I ended up with... I also realize this isn't eveyones cup of tea but its exactly what I wanted in terms of handling... SO BE NICE! https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/11/icon_e_smile-1.gif

Heres a list of goodies that went into it. I won't bother listing everything in the suspension kit:

Oh yeah, and before anyone picks it out, yes, its a 70 bumper on a 71... Previous owner did it and its grown on me for now.

Coan torque converter
SC&C AFX suspension - http://scandc.com/new/node/740
Varishock QS2 (all 4 corners)
Currie F9 (350 gear)
Currie upper/lower control arms
UMI shock tower brace
UMI lower control arm braceSC&C front chassis brace
Baer 14" rotors/ 6 piston calipers front/back (yes overkill I know)
Turn One saginaw 600 steering box
Lee Manufacturing dry P pump
Hydratech hydroboost
Wilwood master cylinder
PSC remote reservoir
Forgeline RB3C's
Michelin Pilot Super Sport - 255/40/19 front - 295/30/20 rear

And I think thats about it... The car still has a long road ahead of it in terms of looks (it needs work) but aside from headers that actually fit and a fuel system upgrade I can check "mechanical" off the list of things to do.

Heres some before and afters... I took some pics of the suspension while it was on the hoist but they didn't turn out so good.

very nice I like the plain jain looks of the car vs a 442 clone or some kind of crazy paint.

Thanks...I'm actually not crazy about the color, the previous owner painted it and although its been growing on me over the past 5 years but I still don't think it would be my first color choice when it gets painted again...eventually.

very nice... makes me with I did 19/20 for my setup....

I was originally looking at a 17/18 or 18/19 combo as I thought the 19/20 would look to tunerish but Forgeline suggested no smaller than a 19 for the size of rotors/calipers I have. I was also pleasantly surprised with how well they look on the car.

Thanks! The thought had crossed my mind when I first got the car to do a 442 clone, I'm glad I only bought 442 floor mats before I changed my mind. When it finally gets beautified the plan is to keep it looking simple. I might put the badges back on at some point though...Maybe.

18's will fit with 14" rotors, I have c6 Z06 brakes on my car which is a 14" rotor of front. .... Once again, very clean....

I think it was because of the rolled lip on the inner part of the rim. It was a rim specific recommendation. They didn't guarantee it wouldn't fit but they wouldn't guarantee it would either. In the end I was glad I took their advice.

Love it! Car is gorgeous, love the engine bay as well. I can tell the post came from ROP, just due to the fact you had to defend the wrong year bumper haha. Some guys are sticklers over there.

Now to find some free time and get to work on mine!

Very nice Olds. How do you like the Turn One steering box?

Very nice Olds. How do you like the Turn One steering box?

I had someone else ask the same question... Its hard for me to tell what the steering box alone did for the car since the car went from completely stock suspension/steering to all new. I can say in general the steering is now very tight and firm, rack and pinion like. The guy from the shop test drove it and said it felt similar to a Corvette. I've never driven one so I cant agree or disagree. The best comparison I can give it is it feels like a go-cart. lol

I think Classic Olds is worse when it comes to the correct year "this" or original "that". I only posted my car over there when they came up with a place for non-Olds motors.....

Yeah, I didn't even bother putting it up there.

With the ridiculous amount of skill, time, money and effort you put into your car I'm sure the last thing you need to hear is that you used the incorrect dome light cover! Very nice build btw.

When your car is done it will be much prettier than mine! Mine still needs a full resto, body and frame need help. My car is like the chubby girl, she could use a little work on the outside but she's got a super nice personality!

Thanks! The wheels really set the car off, I'm quite happy with them. The fronts did rub a little at first but I think I have it figured out. There certainly isn't alot of room between the tire and fender but so far so good!

I also feel your LS dilemma... I'm in the same boat. First world problems at its finest.

Your Cutlass looks great! I am a fan of the SC&C suspension parts and wheel/tire setup.

Ok...I have a couple of questions as I too am a recent classicoldsmobile convert lol! And would have an account at ROP if they ever approved it...I figure after some 5 years they aren't going to.

Anyway,

What spindles did you use? <--- Disregard, I clicked the link in your OP and say they are SC&C. Nice stuff!

I am waiting on 18" Weld RTS wheels and will convert the Moroso trick springs / CE drag shocks over to a stiffer spring (Hoping to use BMR springs / sway bars) but will need to adjust the ride height. I do want to change all of the steering components at the same time because like you, it's getting a little hairy driving on the street now. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

Stephen

P.S. I'll post up a pic or two of the car once the wheels are here...I'm too embarrassed by what's on it currently lol!
