Head bolt threads

It seems like my head bolt threads are disintegrating. I have been trying to install my new heads and the block will not hold 65ftlb. Helicoils won't hold either. I'm at the point that I don't trust the block. The previous owner had arp studs installed and they were rusty and varied greatly in tightness. Anyone else have this problem? Do I need to look into a new block?

69 sbc 350 bored .30 over to 355. 4 bolt main. Slightly decked and flat top pistons ~11:1 compression. Installing 64 cc aluminum heads.

Quite odd that they're pulling out ... I'd contact an engine machine shop and see if they're able to drill them out to a larger size

I called one place and they didn't want the headache and said I would be better off getting a new block

Well that certainly is a very simple answer.... Sbc are dirty dirty cheap and very easily found . A fresh short block could be had for what 1000$ ? Maybe ...if that

The local place said 750 to re use my rotating assembly or 2k for a new set up

id say thats a solid deal if your old bottom end is good

If a helicoil isnt holding, I wouldn't change a head lifting in the future. We offer machined bare blocks and short blocks in a 1pc seal block very reasonably priced and offer members a 5% discount....shoot me a PM if you're still looking.
