Getting somewhat close to finally finishing the 66 for my fiancé to race next year. It is exactly like the truck my grandpa had that I learned to drive in other than being a shortbed. I used the Ridetech coilover conversion front and rear. Very happy with the parts and service from Ridetech. I added A No Limit rack conversion and one of their aluminum fuel tanks. Rob was great to deal with and his parts are also top notch.
Motor is an aluminum 5.3 with Lingenfelter heads and a fairly large cam. TH350 trans with shift kit and manual valve body with engine braking. Full floating 9" Moser rear and will have 14" C6 Z06 brakes front and rear.
Wheels are custom made 3 piece minilite replicas from American Legend, formally known as KWC Forged. I have their wheels on my Camaro and they are high quality. 315 Falken 615k's front and rear. Will have to run a custom splined sway bar up front so they will clear.
Paint will have matte clear and airbrushed patina in spots to make it resemble my grandpa's truck. Frame has been blasted and coated. Cab has been raptor lined underneath. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Getting closer, interior is Raptor Lined and put the original floor mat back in. Installed the No Limit fuel tank which is a super nice piece. Grille and front end parts are just on for wiring. Using a universal kit. I'm building a gauge panel out of aluminum that will hold the tablet to display gauges from the OBD port. Super cheap and works like a Racepak.

What brand gauge app is that? And what tablet?

Nice integration!
That's close to a cluster we just put together for a C10.
Sounds like you have the same general idea and I cant wait to see how it turns out.

What brand gauge app is that? And what tablet?

It is a Nexus 7 tablet using the Torque App and added on the Racing Dash Plug in. The round circles on top of the screen change colors with RPM's. You can literally set anything you want that comes from an OBD port. I have a Bluetooth OBD plugin that connects with it.

Thanks, trust me I would much rather have that autometer dash but trying to somewhat keep this truck "cheap" tough to run my car and the truck at the same time at all the events. Here is the dash I just somewhat finished tonight. I'm still not sure if I'm going to add any gauges to the sides of the tablet or not.
I used a double din radio mount and made an aluminum plate to mount it in. It should work well.

This is the next build I have floating around in my head. I am probably one of the few that prefer the gmc grill too.

The only negative about the grille to me is that it is a lot heavier than a Chevy grille. Wish I didn't have the extra weight out on the nose. The truck is actually a GMC. Most people don't know the dash and hood is different too.

Kore3 brake adapters are on, trying to decide what front rotors I want to run. Not sure if it's worth the cost to go with a 2 piece rotor even though I know they will help shed some weight..

Lookin' good. Is the alternator bracket from a truck engine? I just bought a stock C5 bracket for mine and it interferes with my steering shaft. Yours looks much higher and might work for me. BTW, your wheels look great! Nice work.

Thanks guys!

The Alt bracket is from a truck, I also tried the Vette bracket and it was too tight for my liking.

Love it, we are getting ready to build a longbed 66 chevy of my dads, plans are 5.3 and some suspension upgrades, mostly just a driver though no plans to track it. I will be interested to see how the ridetech stuff performs. What kind of ground clearance did you end up with?

Awesome, I know the Ridetech stuff works from experience with other trucks with the same kit. I will have triple adjustable shocks and a nascar front swaybar to help it. These trucks need a ton of swaybar. Clearance wise there is about 3.5" at the lowest point. The lowest spot is at the control arm under the coilover. The 315's fit fine in the front with a different swaybar.

Columbus was a huge success for the truck, brought home the truck class win. Can't say enough good things about the Ridetech and No Limit parts on this truck. Rob gave me some alignment suggestions that made a huge difference. Now it's time to actually dyno tune it and get a couple street miles on it

Thanks, it's been a lot of fun to build. It drives better than I expected and is so different than my Camaro on an autocross course. Hopefully I can continue to make it faster with some upgrades to the rear suspension.

Can you give some specs on that front suspension? Specifically what drop spindle and brakes. Thanks

It's the Ridetech stage 3 coilover conversion with CPP modular spindles and C6 Z06 Corvette brakes front and rear. If you have any more questions PM me

I'm in the middle of building a 66 GMC long bed. This thread is awesome! I just reached out to NoLimit as well to see what my options are on the rear suspension, as I am currently leaf-springs and would like to change it up.

Thanks! Rob is great to deal with, he has a couple different rear suspension options. Any input he gives you will be good. He knows these trucks and performance very well.

beautiful build. what you did is similar to what I am planning for my '65 stepside chevy. I love the dash, I think that I may try to build my dash with carbon fibre. I will be using guages though. Where did you get your steering column? did you keep the key on the dash, or move it to the column?

Hugger67RSSS

Thanks! Sorry, don't check this often anymore. The column came from summit racing. Key is still in the factory location.

A couple new pics

Have you ever put it on a set of scales.

I am currently involved with a short fleet 65 GMC build that will be more hot rod then track tool, however my personal 65 build is pending and it will be a pure track build. Will be moving my engine back 14 inches and moving the radiator to the tailgate and several other mods to get as close as possible to a 50/50 weight distribution.

It's almost 3,400 lbs without a bed floor, heat, A/C or driver. The 4L70E is really heavy too. Still has all steel parts and fully functioning glass. They can be much lighter but I didn't want to strip it down completely and spend all the money for fiberglass parts.

I've thought about stripping it down and changing some things to make it faster but Goodguys rules change will make it next to impossible to compete with a truck wheelbase. It works very well and won the truck class easily again this year in Columbus but will never compete with a vette or fast car on those courses
