hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and the whole pro touring scene. and as the title states I'm getting started on my pro touring project. my dream car a 1968 Camaro. now heres what I'm hoping for. I'm wondering if some of you could give me insight on my build. my intentions are a driver that I can track. I want to use the car not keep it in a trailer or garage (although I will garage it when its not being driven of course). I want to try to keep the body stock and keep the interior mostly stock appearance. id like to do 17 or 18 inch wheels but I don't really want to mini tub. I'm planning on doing an ls swap with a 6 speed, 4 link rear and building up the factory front subframe. also I'm on a budget, kinda gonna do things as funds become available so ill be taking my time as the car does need restoration. any insight on how to do this build would be very much appreciated. thank you!

You description follows about 75% of the cars on here, haha. There's no one way that works, now you're getting into details, and personal preferences. All you're going to get is people recommending Brand A over Brand B. The best thing to do is just start going through all the project threads and see what you like, and see what the owner says of the product. For a 68 Camaro, you'll have weeks of threads to go over, there is no car with more infinite ways of building than this car... except for a 69 Camaro.

to be more specific id like to know what rear set up I would need to run so that I don't need to minitub the car for wider tires. that being said id also like to know specs on wheels I would need to run so that they tuck under the wheel wells. id like to run 17s or 18s. and depending on what I can run what would be recommended on the front so as not to rub and what not?

without a mini tub the car is limited to 275 wide tires, a 9.5 inch wide with a 5.5 backspace.....you can run any rear suspension to fit the 275 tires

here is my car with 275 tires front and rear just for reference

Thanks for the info Rod. car is beautiful btw. did you have to do anything special to the front for that wide of a tire? I have been tossing around the idea of running all 4 tires the same size instead of staggering them but wasn't sure how well it would be for regular day to day driving. but I do like the way that looks on your car

I used an off the shelf Tru-turn kit from ridetech, it allows the 275 tire up front also on the same 9.5inch rims with 5.5 backspace

ok I was doing some looking around and I think I found the rims I want. now they are 17s but they don't make them 9.5" wide only in 9" wide. so if by losing a half an inch on rim width do I need to lessen the backspacing by half an inch or would I still be ok?

just cut it ...remove some of the middle and fiberglass it back together...you could even try and do a cool notch or something in the center...

If you decide to sell the spoiler I'd be interested in it.

Should buff out just fine, with a little extra elbow grease on the roof of course!

Welcome, and have fun. Should be able to find just about everything you need right here.

Sean I'm probabley gonna end up selling it as I did look to try doing what Rod had suggested but if I cut it then I will mess up the mounting holes. it has some scratches on it and one spot where the paint flaked off but nothing to serious. I do have to redo a few of the screws as I was able to thread them out. not a hard fix.

I can agree with you that there is a lot of info here. the few people ive spoken to have really answered a lot of my questions and quieted a few concerns. good luck on your 68 vert! I'm gonna try having some fun once this like 2 feet of snow I just got is gone!

wasn't able to get the garage cleaned out fast enough and get the car in. 30 inches of snow have put a halt on plans for a while. stupid winter haha122825122826

well I have a pretty nice bit of news. snow is gone for the most part so ill be moving the car indoors to begin teardown. in addition to that I scored a 6.0L LS out of a newer gas school bus courtesy of my new job. so now I have half of my drivetrain. now to locate a t56 haha
