hey everyone I want to first apologize for this long post but have a few questions which may sound dumb but want to make sure before I finish up this install..

I got the full AAW classic update kit for my 72 Camaro and in the middle of doing the engine/headlight wiring section of the kit.. there is some wires I wont need(horn, heater,ac,wipers) so ill tuck them away or just remove from the kit and for most part rest of the kit is straight forward...

ALTERNATOR:
After removing the old butchered engine harness I found that my alternator has a different connector then what AAW supplies. I will remove the connector and use the one that fits in the alternator

since I have a 1 wire alternator I do not need to use this brown wire correct?

STARTER:
Continuing on with my butchered harness it has 2 of the same color wires going to the starter(which I believe somebody made both the same) one going to the BAT stud and the other was clipped onto this lil side terminal which I believe is the S terminal according to the diagram?

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/10/20151010_1640531_zpskfamrylz-1.jpg~original (http://s296.photobucket.com/user/408maro1/media/20151010_164053-1_zpskfamrylz.jpg.html)

now the instructions state to add the 2 supplied cables in the kit to the BAT stud which seems easy enough, is the purple wire in the diagram going to the small S terminal circled in the previous picture? and the part in this pic I scribbled out I am not to use as this is used for a points ignition?

VSS:
I have a LT1 style T-56 and have a 2 wire VSS connector I'm going to plug into the trans.. now on the instructions it wants me to use 3 wires total.. any input on this?

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/10/20151010_164555_zpsivzacfot-1.jpg~original (http://s296.photobucket.com/user/408maro1/media/20151010_164555_zpsivzacfot.jpg.html)

IGNITION:
I have a MSD 6AL box and I have the MSD blaster SS which has a -/+ on it. the blaster is connected to the 6AL, the AAW diagram wants me to plug these wires in somewhere for what I believe is tach and ignition? if so where should these go?

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/10/20151010_1632443_zpssyxcxidc-1.jpg~original (http://s296.photobucket.com/user/408maro1/media/20151010_163244-3_zpssyxcxidc.jpg.html)

and lastly I can wire the 12V IGN source from the MSD to a open 12V IGN on the fuse box?

thank you for looking and appreciate any help.. just trying to finish this thing up

Well, I don't know about the Trans but anytime i do one of these kits, start with the bat direct to starter alternator direct to starter normally on the same post. Does your kit include the fuse panel?

Thank you for the reply. Yes it is the full body kit.

On the MsD just follow the directions for that - you only need keyed 12 volts from the AAW harness , I would go from the key directly to the MSD box - MSD box then directly to Coil/distributor - also run your MSD power and ground directly to the bat

You don't need that yellow ballast wire if you have HEI. I just took that wire out of the fuse block all together. The purple wire is the ignition wire to the starter. Do not splice anything to that wire.

None of those blue wires you added should be spliced to the tach or connected to the starter.

I'm still confused on what you're doing, but I think your running HEI with an external coil, but confusing the set-up with points ignition?

thanks guys for the help and badazz thanks for tryin to on nasty aswell.

I re did my 1st post and hope its n o longer confusing and I apologize for any confusion.

thanks

The purple/yellow twisted wires are used w electric speedo. One is the signal from the ecm output or speed sensor on the trans, the other is ground. You can disregard if not using elec speedo.

Some speed sensors need power, hence the purple/white wire is there, but for a T56 vss, it is not needed.

Perfect. Thanks guys. As I will be using a dakota digital cluster I just wire the connector pictured to the Dakota digital box?

Thanks

Ok. Got a weird issue. I have sent AAW a email which I'm sure they will respond quickly as they have, but wondering if anyone has a answer to this.

I started the car up today with the Dakota digital hooked up and it showed 17.5 volts and once the fans kicked on dropped to 1 volt less(16.5 volts)

What could cause so much voltage? I ran everything as said on the instructions. The only thing I can see that I did was not hook up the brown wire to the alternator which was called a exciter wire. As I thought it was a 1 wire setup.

I had this happen the first time I rewired a car. I cant recall exactly, but it was how I wired the volt gauge. I either had to remove a wire, or I had something wired to a terminal on the gauge that should have been left empty. I did not use the brown wire on any of the ones I did. How did you wire the volt gauge?

thanks for the reply.

it is a Dakota digital vhx cluster.

I ran the CONSTANT 12V from the orange wire running off the ACC harness inside the vehicle
the ACC 12V from the 12V IGNITION from the dash wiring
and the GROUND from the dash wiring aswell

ACC power is 12v ignition, constant is 12v Battery and the ground is ground. The volt gauge takes its reading directly from the ACC voltage. Check your wiring and voltages for each one. Also check and make sure you have a good ground.

Seems to be wired correctly then.

I will measure voltage on each as stated and go from there

Thank you

Yeah if you have that high voltage from the acc and BATT wires, I would check your alternator voltage while running (off of big alt post). If you alternator voltage is that high, you might have a bad alternator regulator.

thank you I will test them this way and see what I get
