I have a problem with my tranny, hard to describe but I make a try.
4 years ago I had it restored and rebuilt to take more HP and torque as I at the same time installed a 406 SBC with roller cam and alu heads.
When I bougt the car the detent cable was cut just a 4-5 inches from the box entry. I replaced the cable but experienced problems when I did a kickdown. The result was the same whether it was a shift down to first or to second gear. It shifts down, the engine powers and suddenly the gear disengage, no slip. If I ease the pedal the gear engage again. More probably as a result of the detent cable reposition than the power.
After having the tranny rebuilt with more lamellas, HD sprag and a shift kit I realized the problem was still there. The guy rebuilt it is very experienced and accurate. The first thing he said when faced the problem was it's likely a crack in the valve body.
I have drived the car now for some years with the detent cable disconnected and with no other problems than doing manual shifts instead. Oil looks perfect, no leakage, no strange sound and no slip on any gear, it seems it's healthy. What I understand is that when the cable is pull out then something happens.
I realize I have a need from someone with deep, deep knowlegde on this tranny. Anyone out there??
