Has anyone used dustless blasting to strip a car?

http://dustlessblasting.com/

Is there any special prep required before primer, haven't been able to find any info anywhere.

Looks like you would metal prep just like usual.

My concern is the pressure. Common misconception about the heat from sandblasting warping sheetmetal, think of it as thousands of little hammers. So like anything, will only work as good as the guy holding the nozzle.

My concern is the water! They use a baking soda media in the water jet stream. Baking soda has to be neutralized with water or will react with paint. Something about H2O and bare metal that makes me uncomfortable.

So what's a better option? Chemical strip? If so what stripper?

DA with 200 ?

I use a combination of blasting and a DA with 80 grit. Flat panels are DA'd, door jambs etc are blasted.

If I'm not mistaken, in the video, it says media is recycled glass media, not baking soda.

found that it uses holdtight 102 as the rust preventative
http://www.holdtight.com/
and glass as the abrasive. Just looking for anyone who has used it on a car before. Don't want to open a can of worms that make it impossible to get the paint to stick

My friend had his dad's 37 Ford done. It warped the doors where the guy moved the nozzle ( too much pressure ). He would not do it again.

I am co-owner of a dustless blasting business, and I I have used all types of blast techniques and media. By far, crushed glass is the preferred media. I blast with dry or wet (using "hold-tight) and IMO this is the best method for auto body. I have blasted everything from heavy machinery to brick walls, and even wood siding and technique and the proper grade of media will make all the difference. The thinnest metal that I blasted was a hood on a c class Mercedes without the slightest wave afterwards. Sand is too rough and creates a lot of heat which equates to more warpage. baking soda only removes paint, nothing else, and no paint manufacturer will stand behind paint over a soda blast job since it is very hard to neutralize the soda remnants that hide in crevices. Finding the right blaster is key to getting a good job.

Bringing up an old thread in the hopes that someone has used theses guys in SoCal: http://www.californiadustlessblasting.com/auto.html

Any recent experiences with this technology? Using glass media remove rust too?

I was too nervous to be a guinea pig. Had my car done with a traditional blaster and glass media

Yeah, lots riding on this. Kinda like the idea of the DA on flat panels and blasting the jams.

No problem mix any rust inhibitor in the water . This is a standard practice in vibratory finishing on steel parts

Dual Action random orbit pneumatic sander. Most guys use a 6”.

I had my car soda blast with great metal surface results. You can do nothing about a year without treatment if inside. I wash mine and then wash it with metal prepped and then epoxy primed it. As most project, still in epoxy primer in good condition. I have a friend in the business Nu-Tech Refinishing that did mine. he does service at his location and in the field. he sale the equipment too. check his web site out at www.nutechsodablasting.com . He warn me about the warping with a lot of the system out there. Give Lanny a call I'm sure he will guide you to a good solution.

I got my car lower part rust cleaning from sandblasting company (https://www.mandcsolutions.com/) and I'm satisfied with their services and the best part is that I don't have to take my vehicle anywhere as they provide doorstep services. If you need contact kindly PM me.

They don’t mention blasting cars on their website. Spammer?

Here, build thread Jason's 67 Camaro. I build, blast and. Paint water towers. I have blasted everything from house wood siding to steel tanks to car frames and bodies. The guy who said earlier in this thread Crushed glass is they way to go he is correct. And using. Water in blasting is fine while using hold tight 102 rust inhibitor mixed in while blasting. And power washing the entire surface when blasting is done with it helps as well.
