Well I thought it was time to put up a build thread of my 66 Chevelle being built by Jeff Allison at Allison Customs. We don’t have any project name for the car and I can’t really think of anything clever for it haha.
It’s due to be a daily driver with some Pro Touring flare to it, 650hp LT4, T56 Magnum, Art Morrison chassis, powder coated trim/bumbers etc. (no chrome on the car), comfortable modern interior. ALSO, just learned that the car will be going to SEMA 2018 and will be in the Ron Francis Wiring booth! That's pretty exciting and we would like to give a big thanks to Ron Francis for getting involved and deeming us worthy for being in their booth haha.
This will be a long build but I will try and update it the best I can. Obviously I’m not doing the work but as I get updates I’ll post them up here.
You can follow the build here, Allison Customs Facebook page and Robert Kibbe from the Musclecar place will have updates every once and awhile on The Musclecar Place Podcast. Jeff and I were on episode #260 (Listen Here (http://www.themusclecarplace.com/tmcp-260-the-big-gamble-worked-the-return-of-jeff-allison-with-jeremy-mclellans-new-66-chevelle-build)) introducing the build. We were on the show for the fact that this build came about because I found out about Allison Customs from Robert’s podcast when Allison Customs was building Robert's 64 Chevelle and the show was one of the driving forces to get me to contact Jeff about building my car.
This is just my dream car coming to reality, it’s not a big name build or anything just my idea for my dream Chevelle and I’m really looking forward to seeing it come together.
The current stage of the build is it’s torn down, disassembled and waiting for soda blasting to see the true state of the sheet metal (fingers crossed).
For now, here’s some Pics:

Thanks! The colour is House of Kolor tangerine Kandy Basecoat. I might end up going with a deeper (darker) orange but based on the same Kandy base.

It's scary how little knowledge one must have to drive a semi load of cars. And that appears to me a nicer rig than most out there. Glad your car was OK.
Great looking "driver"!

Thanks, the driver told Jeff "The car fell off the trailer" but I'm glad that is all that happened, could have been much worse.

A little update on the Chevelle. It got soda blasted by Dwight of Advanced Stripping Technologies which turned up some ‘suspect’ areas. Either way it’s good to see the car making the next step but I’m hoping the damage isn’t extensive and isolated to certain areas.
Dwight hard at work.

The ‘suspect’ spots where a lot of filler was used, these will be getting glass beaded to see the true state of the metal before going off for primer, crossing my fingers… :scared:

Pin holes showed up in the floor…
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/11/22081003823_9d4fafaf33_b-1.jpg
In the case for the driver door, filler was used to fill rust spots that rusted right through, awesome.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/11/22086422444_f43a8c5801_b-1.jpg
Some typical rust spots were found that weren’t surprising like the lower windshield mounting area and trunk edge.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/11/22720320861_b52abe7293_b-1.jpg

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/11/22514165760_8742dab166_b-1.jpg
Next step is the glass shooting to get rid of all the filler then off to get primer before Jeff starts working his magic on the sheet metal.
Stay Tuned.

I have had three 66 Malibu's and would have a fourth if we were able to find one reasonably priced but ended up with a pretty nice 67 Firebird. Going to follow along and live vicariously through your build.

That's awesome you've had 3 already but a 67 firebird is pretty sweet as well.
I've been in talks with Eric Brockmeyer about getting a hand drawn rendering for my car. I really like the HOK digital one that's I've made up but I think having that hand drawn version will be pretty sweet to hang in the house and get some more particulars about the car and interior laid out to give us a good overall look reference. We haven't started yet due to he's crazy busy but hopefully we'll be getting started soon!

The car made it's way back to the shop to start on the sheet metal repairs / modifications.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/12/23726583156_d33092091f_b-1.jpg
And the sheet metal started rolling in....more than we first anticiapated....and I hoped that would be needed!

Decided to get some professional renderings done by Eric Brockmeyer. www.brockmeyerdesign.com/
I liked the renderings I did with the House of Kolor program but it just didn't allow a lot of manipulation and I was curious about how my idea for an interior was going to come together.
Eric did an amazing job, took about 2 month total but I was in no hurry and the quality of work was amazing. He came up with some really trick ideas that I ended up keeping apart of the final rendering.
Still debating a little bit between Rushforth wheels Rated X or Boze Forged Clutch Concave. I think the clutch look pretty bad ass on there. Also, he made some pretty sweet door panel designs but I don't know if totally custom interior is going to be in the budget so I got a version with the TMI done just encase haha.
Let me know what you think.

If the car turns out even half as nice as the rendering it is going to be killer. Can you make 2 of the rear spoiler when you get to that point - I could use one on my 67. :)

My goal is to have the car finished in 2018. This will be a long build but slow and steady wins the race right? haha

I ended up buying the art Morrison, can't wait to see it, like you said it's looks like a piece of art and will give the car an amazing ride and handling.

Haha, thanks, Jeff @ Allison customs is pretty talented so I'm sure he'll make it look damn close. You'll have to talk to Jeff about making an extra for ya!
I'll keep everyone up to date as we move along.

Thata is an amazing rendering, i have got to go check that out. That is so close to what I have been thinking about for a finished project. I think the shipping outfits 'oops' would go along way toward that new chassis price. Great build, looking forward to following, I'm subscribing!! What part of the country are you in. Jeff has pretty much finished up the mini tubbin' now. As you will need from the photos he has a few little spots to weld and it's all good.
Since then he has started on the rear quarters getting the new driver side fitted along with new door to play with gaps. Then since the quarters will be off he will start on the rear brake cooling ducts!

Well it's been a long time.
Not huge updates but updates never the less.
Jeff has continued on the brake ducts, started fitting the transmission. The tranmission will not be exactly accurate yet, Jeff is using a LS block with LS mount in the AME frame. The final engine will be the LT4 with LT mounts (or adapters) so he isn't 100% sure on the location of the transmission but it will be close.
Check out the videos and Pic below, enjoy!

Got some news from Allison Customs the other day. Ron Francis wiring asked if they could use my car in their booth for SEMA 2018! Pretty awesome news and wanted to thank Scott Bowers @ Ron Francis wiring for becoming part of this build. It's a big honour for us to even be considered to go to SEMA. More updates on that to come, we are still a long ways away from the show!

A big box came in the other day, it happened to be a supercharged LT4 crate engine!
The guys at Pace Performance took care of me and I paid to have the engine dyno'd and broke in by them. One less thing to worry about when the car gets up and running...
Jeff got the new engine mounts from AME for the LT4/1 engines which should put the engine in the same spot as an LS in the chassis putting the trans in the same position

There is problems with fitment, first, the oil pan will not fit with the cross member on the AME chassis, we have a Holley swap pan on order that should fix that issue.
Also, the high pressure fuel pump on the back of the engine will contact the firewall, so jeff will have to recess that portion of the firewall to make room. Jeff goes through that on his video.

Small update, Jeff put up a new video of him test fitting the wheels on the car and put it through the suspension travel range. They look real good bottomed out if you ask me haha.
As for the car we are waiting on the Swap oil pan to show up which should be Monday I'm hoping. Then he can get the engine set in to get clearances etc. around the engine / high pressure fuel pump, and make sure the transmission sits where he wants. Spoke with BRP Muscle Rods about some mid length headers they have coming out with for the LT4 on the Chevelle, not sure if I'll go the full long tubes from ultimate headers or just the mid lengths from BRP. The mid length as half the price almost of the long tubes so that's a consideration, and I can't see the long tubes making huge amount of power over them. They are both 1 7/8 primary headers.

Work is ramping up a bit on the Chevelle as Jeff is pushing to get the body to paint by the end of the year so we can stay on schedule for SEMA 2018.
The front fenders and rear trunk lid were scrap. It looked perfect with the previous primer job but once blasted. It looks as if they did the body work, let it sit outside and get some surface rust then put primer on it…sigh…so new front fenders (inner and outer), trunk lid were ordered.

I wanted to have a remote reservoir power steering pump (jones racing) due to having hydro boost brakes and a bigger 220A power master alternator, neither were an issue. Test fitting rear air bags. You would think if you buy a brand new frame and specify the exact suspension being used that it will bolt together nice and easy. Not the case, the brackets Art Morrison put on the frame don't allow the suspension with the bushings installed (supplied by Art Morrison) to slide in. Jeff had to machine down the bushing to make them narrower which will also limit the ability for the end to rotate. When we looked at it there doesn't look like there will be any binding though. Also the lower stand offs weren't the correct size and Jeff also had to machine those to be able to fit the Ride tech bags...buying new doesn't mean easy sometimes I guess...

Jeff had to get creative to make it work. I was back and forth with this idea and was debating scrapping the whole thing and doing dumps instead.
We ended up going ahead with it, he installed the 3 inch exhaust to the tips, then covered the 3 inch pipe with a 4 inch pipe. The inside of the trunk he made the compartments you see to enclose the whole thing from the trunk area.
Only time will tell if it will all hold up, finger crossed but Jeff did some great work on it so I’m sure it's going to be a reliable system.

PAINT…It’s finally time to put some colour on this bad boy. I had a custom House of Kolor colour mixed by Jim Hetz of Hetz Studios, took about 3 rounds of samples for me to choose a colour and I ended up choosing the very first one he made haha. Funny thing about that too is the first one he made was a mistake, he used the wrong clear coat. Originally I was going to go with flat paint, which is what I asked for in the samples but he ended up sending me the glossy ones…he sent me a new batch with the flat klear and I just ended up falling in love with the glossy clear!
Anyways here is a couple pics of it in the paint shop and a video of Jeff touring the shop with the owner

They finished the firewall first so Jeff can mount the body back on the frame and send it back for final paint and gapping…
The colour turned out exactly the way I wanted, dark in the shadows but bright in the sunlight! It’s very orange but that’s what I wanted, super happy with the way it turned out. They also got the bed liner put on the bottom of the car too.

A little (A lot) behind on updates. Car is moving quickly but it has to keep up the pace to make SEMA on time....
First off Paint, is done, and it turned out exactly they way I wanted...good transition with out the metalic look. Best way to see it is the video below:

The upholster has been doing his magic as well, he got the foam for the back seats formed up, center console started. We had some initial issues with the speakers sitting in the front kick plates, as you can see from the photos the speakers are too deep. Upholster will form the kick plates to make up the space.

SEMA 2018 has come and gone. It was an amazing experience being my first time going to SEMA. The car wasn't 100% complete, Jeff lost the SEMA battle as we wanted it running to be able to do the cruise after the show but we just ran out of time. Most importantly though it made it and it looked amazing! There was a ton of traffic and not many people could walk by it without stopping and taking a couple pics!
Wanted to again thank Ron Francis Wiring for having us in their booth to display their awesome products that we used on the car. I would say the show was a success and it was amazing to see all the crazy and amazing cars / trucks at the show.
Here is some pictures of the car at the show, along with some videos I took of it during setup etc.

Jeff had the bumpers de-chromed and the plan was to have them powder coated after they narrowed them. He used some high heat body filler that supposed to handle the powder coat heat but they started to bubble before reaching full temp. So in the last minute SEMA scramble he had them just painted black. We will have to see if we will try to powder coat them again.
