Does anyone sell better options to replace the rag joint?
I am upgrading all of my steering with tru turn and a new quicker box, and I would like something a little stiffer than the oem rag joint

Talk to them , as I'm not sure what your needs are re the new box,but the above works with the common Grand Cherokee box.

I've not done this, but it's on my short list.

Check out speedway. I used their u joints a few years ago in a c-10.

What's wrong with a proper Burgeson or other u-joint?

Tried this on a 3rd gen, no go. It was always in a bind, as there is nothing to take up slight misalignment.

For a 1st gen there isn't much room for a u-joint as the box is behind the engine k-member. I used an aftermarket rag joint repair kit. The rubber piece was heavy duty replacement and stiff. So that worked out. Be sure to retain electrical continuity either through or around the rag joint, otherwise the horn won't work.

That is what the wire mesh is for on the OEM rag joint. I jumped around it with some regular stranded wire and ring terminals.
