View Full Version : Is a Hand e-Brake helpful for Auto-Crossing?

When designed a cardboard template for our center console, if we're going to have any storage compartment at all, I don't see room to include an hand e-brake like the one from Lokar. I'm leaning to just reusing the OEM foot e-brake instead, but my son (co-builder/owner) says we need it.

1971 Olds Cutlass Supreme
T-56 Magnum required bigger trans and drive shaft tunnel.

We plan to mostly just go to cruises but plan to autocross several times per year. Looking at a lot of PT cars here (tommycomfort's 66 Chevelle and analyte's 66 Chevelle), I didn't see a center floor mounted hand e-brake. On analytes I noticed the OEM foot e-brake in one of his pictures.

So it a floor hand e-brake needed or used for auto-crossing?

For fast autocross times, you normally don't want to be drifting.

Thanks I will relay that to my son and an OEM foot ebrake will be used.

You might consider an E-Stopp system. It can also act as a theft deterrent system.

Some guys use it, and by some I mean 1%. I haven't found it to be helpful. It's a little harder to get A-bodies to swing around quick anyway. EStopp systems are great and we've used them many times, especially when there is no room for a pedal Ebrake- such as when you have kick panel speakers. Otherwise I like the foot brake.

It is only needed when you are going for "Style" points. If you want to be fast, "NO".

Only time I could the benefit of one is at the starting line of a Pro-Solo on a sloped surface...

In 20+ Years of A/Xing, I think I have used an E-Brake once!

Usefull for autocross, probably not.

my next car will have one though!! I love to slide around.....
