Here how Rich from Mustang to Fear is doing his custom flares on his own 65. A couple pages of work but might give you a little idea how he does it

i painted the exhaust with vht high heat flat silver. Eventually i would like to make a stainless exhaust when i go to 3" if i do a blower, but for now mild steel is the way to go. Just picked up some new headers so may be redoing some things sooner than later.

Lots of new pieces rolling in lately and got a lot of progress done although hard to see. New fenders and Shelby valance on, panel gaps finished up, rear bumper on and mounted with shaved bolts. New window felts, handles, carpet, rear springs replaced with lower rate, paint purchased and supplies stocked up. Also bought a set of Quick Latch hood latches and did some fab work to make those how I liked them.

Nice progress. How do those quick-latch parts work? Do they hold the hood down securely? I've been thinking about using those on my build.

Looking Good. I did a LS1 into my wifes 66 coupe, by far the best choice i could have made. Fitment was easy and its light. The car is awesome to drive.
What headers did you use on your coupe ? , some one said GTO headers fit the Mustang ?
xsboost90
03-26-2018, 06:58 PM
quick latches are pretty nice- seem very secure and i bought the optional locking pair so i can lock it up when i need to. I went alittle overboard with my installation but most just go through a single layer sheet metal.
- my headers are ebay XSPOWER shorty headers, work with AJE front suspension and fox body rack with aftermarket column/shaft. They are close but clear.

Very cool build man. You and I are at very similar places in our builds. Just bought my paint yesterday.

Careful fitting your trunk lid to tight without the weather strip installed. Mine was perfect prior to paint. After paint when fitting the weatherstrip ran into issues with it bulging up a bit. You should make sure your fit is still good with the weather stripping you plan on using.

Lots of people miss this step all too often. I bought a complete set of rubbers for my car to use when fitting panels and setting gaps. Then during final assembly purchased another brand new set. Sucks buying things twice, but a great insurance policy to know that everything lines up after color and all the rubbers are installed.

almost ready for second primer, tried to fit the front headlight buckets with the shelby valance and theres some interference there so guess i'll be doing some trimming but otherwise time to tear the front end off and get all the edges cleaned up and start primering everywhere.

well all the large body work areas are done as far as i can tell but the little detail areas are really eating up some time. I trimmed the lower corners of my front fenders today that always rub on large tires, and cleaning up small corners and edges is really tedious work. I had to do some slotting and creative fitting to get the drivers headlight bucket even close but the passenger side drops right on no issues. The fiberglass shelby valance was easy to bodywork flush with the fenders but the top lip near the headlights is not even remotely close and resulted in my cutting off half the flange and remaking a new one out of fiberglass to fit the body and headlights correctly. Sanded inside and out of every panel and only have the valance and one fender left before i can start squirting some primer. Then bedliner on the inside of the fenders, black on the doors inside, and edge some blue in hopefully and start wetsanding the outside of the car down.

Ok so been a busy few days painting!!! Late nights since Friday, I now have everything painted and looking pretty nice just some dust but not terrible. Decided to spray everything apart to keep tape lines down but now Ill have to be super careful assembling. 😴

Where did you paint it? Looks like a shop or something (judging by the banners on the walls.) Did you rent it or know someone or something?
Should look sweet after cut and buff!

06-29-2018, 08:50 PM
thanks!
so after prepping the car to buff, i found a few flaws and burnt through a few spots- i think my clearcoat is thinner than previous clears ive used but laid out very smooth. So i ended up taping the whole car up, wetsanding with 1000 and reshooting a couple coats on the whole car and using ANOTHER gallon of clearcoat, this time four coats on everything. Wasnt as bad as i thought it would be and i guess the hot weather helped it stick cuz i had maybe one run and i flowed that out. Now im back to more wetsanding but all the little nitpicky stuff i was seeing before is gone and she is super smooth. Also picked up a better buffing compound to start with. Other news the wife gave me the clearance to purchase a new car trailer so ill be able to cart the blue machine around in style. Just an open trailer like i had previously but sold due to not wanting to see it rot next to the garage until the car was done.

Wet sanded and buffed the car. Again. Much nicer this time. Still some small spots to slide over one more time but I like it. Started dropping on new parts and getting the car ready for a track event coming up aug 3rd. New trailer comes tomorrow. Busy busy around here. Hopefully windows can drop in tomorrow also.

Well took the car out to Nelson Ledges road course up near Cleveland last weekend. Did two days driving and instructing like the old days. Car did way better than I could have imagined and was super fast and composed on the two mile course. I did have several issues that stemmed from my rear end geometry but once I got home and made some tweaks the issues ( and leaks) were gone. Went back to a 150 rear spring and raised the rear up as well. Lots of fun and absolutely a beast.
Today I made it to my first cars and coffee with the car and it had a crowd most the time. Tomorrow is a ford show near me so I’ll just stop in for awhile what the hell.

Aje stuff- front is great, used a big factory style sway and some longer links for clearance and she handles great. Rear is perfect if you use an 8.8 and that is it. 9” has some clearance issues and eventually I may go to a torque arm and set the car lower.

so finally got my rear seat area done- ended up extending the metal rear panels out over the mini tubs, making a bead rolled plate for each end and welded and bodyworked it all smooth. Got the car done and cleaned in time for the World of Wheels show here in town and had my car there for three days, ended up placing first in Mild Hardtop...not bad! Also finished up my mini-mustang pedal car just before the show and took that down as well. Found it on line and had it welded up, body worked and painted to match my car within a month...way too much to even list on the pedal car..:) Now im signed up for a couple track events, one being the Midwest MuscleCar challenge up in Indy in May. Track and autox, should be awesome! Currently have the rear end subframe out making more room for my upper control arms as the 9" is taller than the intended 8.8 rear that goes on this kit, so its bottoming out occationally into the subframe. Move a couple braces and it'll be happy. OH YEAH i also added a 69 camaro lower front spoiler to the car for aerodynamics and general badassery.

car is in the air getting ready for the Midwest Muscle Car Challenge. Got my drive shaft stretched 3/4'' due to moving the rear end back and blowing the rear seal out now at high speeds. Wheels are off to powder coat for a color change and new tires laying here waiting. Higher front spring rates now installed and rear sway is back on. Need to test drive this week before we head out !

Hi probably a little late , but I see you have grounded everything through the chassis, through a bit of reading and seeing others having electrical issues with ECUs and cdi units , we ran a seperate ground cable from the batterie forward and all electronics grounded there ,
xsboost90
05-27-2019, 07:04 PM
i have two grounds motor to chassis, and a battery to frame ground in the rear- no issues so far
got the wheels back from powder just in time to load the car up for the Midwest Muscle car challenge. Track event went well, still feeling out the car abit and fresh tires, different springs etc- car did very well only issue was a shredded serp belt that i had a spare. My times were very consistant in the 1:24 at Putnam, not blazing but not slow, theres still some time there for me to loose. The autox the next day actually went very well and i made it into the 34 second range while the big dollar guys were into the 30-31 second range. Felt like my last run could have put me into the 33's but i fudged a corner so there ya go.
I did win a free Optima battery charger and Bowler Trans picked my car to win a billet shift knob and arm- installed the arm very light weight and feels better in the car but i kept the white vintage knob - so if any one needs a bowler trans billet knob with holes in it like a wiffel ball i have a new one.
Also met some cool people there that ive seen in events but never in person. Jim from Optima hung out at the trailer at the hotel talking for over an hour and i never realized he was an NBA pro etc etc - very cool guy! Lots of cool cars and people. My cousin will never forget it, first track event and autox ever, let him take the car out and do a couple laps on the autox and was ripping off 37s times! Hopefully be back next year!

Heck of a build, Somehow I read through the whole build. I am working on a similar project. Any chance you have a link to where you bought the transmission crossmember? I have not been able to find one similar to that.
Thanks

Crossmember is just a terminator mustang 03-04 cobra unit I bought off eBay.
So over the summer I hit up Nelson ledges road course with the new springs on the car and it was a beast!! Put about 5000 miles on it this summer and tore it down in November for upgrades and maintenance including...
-Pull rear third member and reseal and clean
-swap out aje front strut inserts for Koni roadrace adjustables
-BTR trunion upgrade
-pull front suspension and powder coat k member, arms, motor mounts, rear brake brackets.
-repowder coat wheels different color
-build custom long tube headers, vht paint and install with vbands

Hey guys, Dan's a buddy of mine. I actually did the wheels, and all of the powder coating for him, for that matter. The color is Prismatic Powder Satin Poly Gold. He wasn't happy with the Bronze that I had done, and neither was I, so I redid those back in December when I did the subframe and swaybar for him. And I agree, the gold with the blue is perfection. It's not Subaru STI colors, it has it's own personality.
My favorites from Cavalcade were Dan's car, that 89 Saleen was cool, but I liked that Fastback parked next to Dan, and there was a blue Hot/Rat rod over by the big Volkswagen group. The nonmetallic blue with the Dark brown leather was gorgeous.
I'll tell Dan to check this thread. Thanks for liking the changes guys.
