Gauge Pod Test Fitted Into Custom Console

I built this custom console for my 69 Camaro and had it wrapped by an upholstery shop. I finally got around to installing the 4 AutoMeter gauges into the gauge pod and test fitting it with the console installed. Let me know what you think.

Looks great. That's one of the nicer custom consoles I've seen. Nice work.

I like it, it's making me rethink not having a console in my own car.

      Sweet! Clean. Awesome.

I had an idea like that... but then I thought the cost might be too much. I think that you mentioned earlier that you built the plywood, but do you mind me asking how much your interior shop charged?

      Thanks,
      Max

Yes, I did make the console out of 3/4" plywood and the gauge pod is an aluminum piece. The top piece, where the shifter comes through and the gauge pod are held in place with velcro. This way if I ever need to remove the console once it is installed the top piece will lift out and allow the console to slide to the rear to be removed. The console actually slides under the dash a few inches. I am also considering installing a single inline plug for all of the gauges wires.

The cost to do the entire interior was $1700.00 which was a steal. I had it done at a shop in Maryland.

Wow! That is a good price. What did that entail? (Seats, Console?)

      It looks really trick.

That included everything. Sound deadner, custom carpet, console, seats, door panels, package tray, custom headliner, visors and dash pad and everything was installed except for the console and dash pad. Only the top of the old door panels were used. New panels were made and also custom armrests were installed. Thanks for the comments.

Check out the vBGarage area on page one for user 69zz3. There are a few other pics there.

Which shop in Maryland? I'm not to far from Baltimore. The shop I'm currently using isn't very good, looking for someone new.

The shop that did my upholstery is in New Windsor, MD which is in Carroll County. It's a one man operation which tends to take a bit longer and he usually has a waiting list. The name of the shop is Munshaur's Upholstery.

Thanks for the positive feedback. A 5th guage is going to very tight. If you have any questions while designing or building yours, feel free to ask. Good luck.
