View Full Version : Build Your Ultimate Pro-Tourng Car

Steve Chryssos

Throw out the budget, pull out the magic wand and get those creative juices flowing Given unlimited resources, please describe your ultimate pro-touring car.
The Rules: (If you don't like the rules start another thread)
NOTE: This is an exercise in creativity, so please refrain from just picking a well known car that someone else built. It's too easy to just say Big Red, or Malitude, etc. Those cars reflect someone else's creativity. That would be a different thread: "What well known Pro-Touring car would you like to own?" So, for the sake of argument, pretend that your magic wand will not get you someone else's car. Let's see YOUR creativity.

This is going to be a cool thread. this is just the kind of thing a car builder like me can get ideas from. I would tell you my idea, but I plan to build it and want to hold my cards close to my chest, at least unitl I get started.

For the record, I do think the all wheel drive Riviera is near the top of the list. let's do this thing!

Steve Chryssos
10-12-2005, 04:55 AM
Oh okay, let's "build" that Rivi on paper.

-Platform: 1965 Buick Riviera. If you're gonna go "Touring" (i.e. Power Tour), I believe the platform should have a spacious interior and trunk. In that respect, an A body or similar is a better platform than an F-body or Mustang.

-Front Suspension: 2004 Cadillac SRX with custom chassis

-Rear Suspension: 2004 Cadillac SRX IRS with custom chassis. Back half of chassis would be raised to compensate for tall tires.

-Wheels/Tires 18"/20" with ample sidewalls. wheels would be Budnik Inverter FL or Muroc II FL since these wheels hint at the original beauty wheels but are totally custom.

-Engine: Blown Northstar V8. Bone stock--right down to the exhaust manifolds. Should fill the engine compartment nicely and clear the stock hood.

-Drivetrain: 6L80E six speed electronic auto overdrive with paddle shift (of course)

-Body: Refurbish existing color combo: Black with black vinyl top and lots of chrome. Custom cast emblems proclaiming the project name (Which I will keep secret until the car is debuted)

-Cockpit. Reconstruct late model seats with moderate bolsters, heat and memory. One-off retro steering wheel with integral paddle shifter. The stock column, dash and console are works of art on these cars. They need to be maintained dash and console would be upgraged with modern "black" woodgrain from a current high end luxury car. Integrate late model seat belts front and rear.

-Special Features
Pod of small HID headlights hidden behind stock "clamshell" doors. Hidden flip down NAV system. Custom "Redline" striped radials. Integrated, hidden radar.

That's it. (That's plenty)

P.S. If anyone wants to fund this monumental project, I'll sign over my Rivi for $10K, plus retain the rights to manage the project--start to finish. I build it my way, you get the car on completion AFTER a tour of duty.

62' nova(which is in the corner of the shop)

full frame
C5 front suspension
3 link rear w/9in
Single turbo 427 LS1
6spd auto
19' 20' DPengineering 3 piece wheels
15' and 14'in brakes

and I guess it is the poser coming out in me but it would have to be on shockwaves sitting on the ground!

Let's go NASCAR ricer:

Early 80's/late 70's Malibu as platform.

Narrow front and rear frame rails and put in custom-built SLA front suspension. Rear is 3 link, based on floating axle setup.

Channel body over frame 3 inches, put in tasteful cage with halo bar for extra head room.

Engine is SB2, but using EFI. Small dual or triple disc clutch, TK0-600 5 speed.

Carbon fiber everywhere: hood, bumpers, front and rear wings, seats, dash insert, gauges, and custom design touches. No chrome. Everything fastens with Dzus fasteners.

Body is silver, wheels are anodized clear: no shine, but grayish/silverish in color. Basic 5 spoke design.

Brakes are massive Wilwoods with fluid re-circulators.

Okay here goes.

I would do a total build on my current 69 firebird

Front Susp: Wayne Due AM front subframe complete with QA-1 coilovers, rack&pinion, art morrison suspension.

Rear Susp: Wayne Due C4 IRS with DSE mini-tubs (shortened halfshafts to allow for less wheel backspacing)

Wheels/Tires: Fikse FM10's 18x9.5ront with 295 section width rubber, 18x12 rear with 335 section width rubber.

Engine: Indian adventures II aluminum block with Tiger heads, journaled down to accept BBC 6.8" rod, fully balanced rotating assembly. Mass Flo EFI system utilizing Torker II intake manifold. Single turbo setup with air/air intercooler (GT47/T88 something in that range).

Drivetrain: Geforce modified T-56 with custom gearing (no overdrive). Carbon driveshat. 3.73 final drive ratio.

Paint: Two tone black/cherry

Cockpit: Stock dash painted in black cherry with modified consoul to accept multiple driver facing guages. 6 point cage, Carbeau racing seats front rear seat delete.

Body: Fiberglass 1969 TA hood with custom louvers on the snorkles, fiberglass trunk lid with camaro style spoiler. Camaro style front spoiler. Custom sub-frames to tie in front and rear subs and rocker structure, half height solid body mounts.

Brakes: Wilwood 4 pistons with hydratech master cylinder

That would be pretty much it. I would likely do a plastic road race fuel cell with custom fuel system utilizing stainless lines with AN fittings and aeromotive a1000 pumps. Dual batteries relocated to the trunk with diamond plate encosure over the batteries and tank.

OK, Here goes:

Platform: '89 IROC

Front suspension/rear suspension: full on Global West road racing setup with slightly less stiff front springs, Koni double adjustable shocks, AGR quick steering box and pump, Wilwood 13", 6 pot front brakes and 12", 4 pot rear brakes

Wheels/tires: 17" Fikse FM-5s, Michelin Pilot Sports 235/40 fronts, 275/45 rears

Engine: Open topic for now. I want as much torque and hp as will pass CA emissions and be reasonably street driveable

Drivetrain: Built 700r-4, Gear Vendors over/underdrive (Steve C; is there a way I could use a Shrifter here or would I need to switch to a computer controlled transmission. If I did, would that be overkill?) Ford 9" posi rear end; ratio another open topic

Body color: Red; stock graphics

Cockpit: Recaro or SPARCO seats, 6 or 8 point cage, harness, back seat removed, big Autometer tach to the right of the instrument cluster

Special features: dirty undercarriage and high mileage; this car is to be driven. To bust the butts of some friends of mine, a placard on the passenger side dash that says: "Notice: This car is faster than anything the Freeman brothers own!"

Basically what I am doing now, I like the looks/style of my car...but with a big budget I would go EFI/bigger motor/more boost, 6 speed trans, bigger wheels, tubular a-arms and maybe shockwaves.

Maybe not radical enough for what Steevo is looking for as an answer......??
(just try to do it in my style with my budget, so the style would not really change, just the quality/finish/price of the parts)

What more can I add

Kevin@W2W

An idea just for this thread since I intend to build a few others I have.

1959 Elcamino

Feel of the car would be somewhat multi era / road warrior / road course warrior / kill small children.

Exterior color

Graphite metallic (almost black) with lightly tinted windows

Custom carbon fiber bed cover with small wing for down force on shocks to expose goodies underneath

Custom chin spoiler complete with all proper air ducts for brakes and mesh inner head lights for induction

All chrome re done to resemble more of a "black chrome"

Satin lip wheels with matching centers

Either Wide 5 mount or a stock car inspired wheel

Tube chassis with cage, all body panels quick release

Custom long arm short arm front suspension and traditional NASCAR type 9" rear suspension

Brakes
One off to match car depending on wheel choice

Engine
Intercooled Twin turbo small inch high rev SB2 with a 6 speed and a little bit of meth

Interior
No frills, minimum gauges, black in color along with some sheetmetal and carbon fiber.

And a killer stance of course:)

Steve Chryssos

Steve C; is there a way I could use a Shrifter here or would I need to switch to a computer controlled transmission. If I did, would that be overkill? Chuck

You need an electronic trans. Substitute 4L60E for 700R4. And you need GV's new digital sequencer to keep hands on the wheel at all times 8 speeds overkill? Probably, but you can only use 5 or 6 at a time if you'd like.

Martin: It's your magic wand, so build it your way. My crazy Riviera project makes sense to me because I already have a "done" Camaro.

-Platform-65 GTO convertible
-Front Suspension-Global West,Wilwood
-Rear Suspension-Global West, Wilwood
-Wheels/Tires-Forgeline, Pirelli
-Engine-LSx with magnacharger
-Drivetrain-4L80 with shrifter paddle shift, 9"ford rearend
-Body Color-two tone, red over silver
-Cockpit-updated, modern seats with 65 style stitching
-Special Features-full custom dash, special gauges. Car is a touring car so must have creature comforts like electric windows, A/C. Basically a modern car built around a older body.

Needless to say, I have had to chance to build my dream car this year. Even now, that it is almost finished, I don't think there is much I would do different even with an unlimited budget.

BTW, I have added this picture because the car has changed a bunch since it was taken, the stance is much lower now and of course, many more parts added.

Here's our current house project, some details subject to change:

Platform: 1970 Camaro RS, with body modifications (subtle, TBD at this point). Two different easily replaceable body themes: one for street/cruising which will have a tasteful, small front spoiler (custom), and will utilize the short one piece trunk lid spoiler. second is track setup with full aero, deep front spoiler/splitter with small dive planes, full carbon wing on rear, fully adjustable for height and trim. Custom radiator outlet ducting, brake venting. Color: dark, and sinister, probably ghost flamed.

Suspension: Full Lateral Dynamics road race setup. Three link rear suspension with Watt's linkage, 9" Ford with aluminum carrier, Penske triple adjustable shocks, Eibach springs. Full LD front subframe, fully braced (available early 2006), Chro-Mo tubular control arms, adjustable stabilizer bar, Penske triple adjustable shocks and Eibach springs.

Brakes: Big, most likey AP Racing 14"/13" six/four pot. No cross drilling. Bias bar front-rear, cockpit adjustable. Porterfield pads.

Engine and Trans: (Current plan) Donovan based Big Block Chevy, 4.5" bore, short stroke. Anticipated redline well north of 7500 RPM. Injected. Possibly dry-sump, most likely wet sump with fully baffled custom road race oil pan. Transmission is not set yet, but first choice is Hewland sequential shift five speed, second is Jericho road race five speed, long range cruising trans will likely be Tremec.

Interior: Cobra Seats (Street = Misano, Track = Suzuka) with matching back seat, full DOM cage with removable side and back braces. Hand fabricated aluminum dash, A/C. Stereo with Morel speakers, Zapco amps.

Wheels/Tires: Kinesis forged wheels, 315/335 tire stagger.

Current progress: Body stripped and on rostisserie, cage installed, mini-tubbed, new qtrs, trunk floor, rear light panel installed. Three link being fabricated. Anticipated completion: Before Power Tour 2006!

Nice, that would be a cool project. I'd probably change up the engine a bit though.

I'd do a VT Competition Engineering 324" stroker based off the aluminum 4.6L mountain block. I'd top it with a set of slightly worked over 03/04 Cobra heads and JDM Engineering Stage 3 crower cams. I'd go with the 2.4 KB instead of the 2.2 as well. I'd also do the Horsepower by Herman blower spacer to unshroud the intercooler and lower charge temps.

That would be a kickin combo for quite a bit less money. This is however not an issue in this thread, so 5.4 GT motor it is!

Here is my contribution... it is much like the project I am currently working on... except that I'm sure I'll have to make compromises with mine due to funds.

-Platform

Datsun 240-Z with custom tubular titanium spaceframe chassis. Floor panels will also be titanium sheeting.

-Front Suspension

Unequal length A-arm with coilover shock. Adjustible front swaybar with adjustment on the fly from the cockpit. Big disk brakes.

-Rear Suspension

If I could afford it... and design it well, I'd probably go with an IRS setup with unequal length A-arms and four forward links. Inboard mounted disk brakes of course.

-Wheels/Tires

18'' wheels with 335 rubber out back and 295 rubber up front.

-Engine

Strokes LS2 with custom fabbed 32 valve heads, force fed by an intercooled twin turbo setup.

-Drivetrain

Sequential shift transaxle out back geared for 200+mph.

-Body Color

Silver with single wide black stripe down the center.

-Cockpit

Minimalist, easy to read controls, comfortable but spartan.

-Special Features

Can drive to the grocery store, then hit the open road race and top 200mph!

in dash navigation system complete with voice and night vision
full toggle switch set on dash including what each does T.B.D.

or I would just build Stalone's 50 merc from the movie Cobra, which i will do before I die anyway :icon996:

Am I next?

OK

The Car - 1969 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 4 door (yes....I said 4 door). Front door lengthened and rear door shortened. Adapt 'swing-out' hinge assembly to rear door to make it open like a rear access panel. Rear door engagement dependent on front door (think Mazda RX8). Yes...a lot of fabrication and welding. Parsons....you busy?

Suspension - All-wheel-drive full tubular chassis. Front; GMC Typhoon. Rear; Corvette 4-link (modified for track width). Full cage.

Engine/Trans - Twin-turbo General Motors Racing V6 (might have to push it up into the rear seat area to accomodate rear suspension). Hewland 6-speed. Oh yeah.....we're not fu*king around.

Interior - Custom/one off. Contemporary/Racy. Lots of scupted styrofoam and fiberglass being thrown around. Crazy, man.....crazy.

Paint - Some sort of Kandy Orange Pearl. Something that pops in the sun and has a nice goldish hue to it. Bumpers painted Titanium. No chrome on the car.

Donuts - HRE/Fikse....something racy. 18's all around and as fat as I can get em.

I already built it, my 2200# LS6 power Ultima GTR. However,
I'm building a twin turbo engine and saving pennies for the sequential transaxle to update it. Nothing gonna touch it overall performance wise.
I hope the next customer car will be an all wheel drive 67 Nova with a turbo ls6.
My next personal project will be unveiled hopefully at SEMA, It'll weigh 1650# and have a built LS6. John McBride is working on the rendering now, I hope.

Platform - 1989 BMW 325is

PowerTrain - Ls2 with a tk0 5-speed

Chassis - Acid dipped, seam welded, full cage.

Body - LT weight hood, trunk, lexan windows, removed sun roof. Get curb weight with me in the drivers seat at 2200#

Wheels - Something in 17" as light as I can find.

Interior - a light weight racing seat, a tachometer, an oil light and a water temp light.

Paint, ETC - Black paint, black rims, black tires, removed trim, tinted windows, the interior would be in urethane grey.

PLATFORM: My 73' Nova.

WHY?: Because ive never seen any cool 73' Nova's besides my own and mine is a back yard build...

MOTOR: Dart I.E. Block 434, Brodix 227cc M2 Track 1 heads, Jesel shaft rockers, 8.5:1 compression, custom Solid roller/schubeck lifters, ATI pro charger.Custom 2" Lemons headers. Yeah that would probably do for power.

TRANNY: G-force or Jerico 5 speed

REAR: Mark Williams/Moser/detroit locker/ ford 9"

BODY MODS: Steel cowl hood probably 2 1/2" or so to fit the motor other than that stock.

SUSPENSION: Probably either Fatman or DSE stuff and sitting on a custom subframe dropped 2" in front and leveled in back

INTERIOR: Basically stock with a formed console and cobra style seats and a dash with 5" tach and speedo and 2 5/8" oil, fuel, water, and volt gauges and vintage air.

WHEELS: Somthing probably 17 in front and 18 in back and as wide as we could go. Definately polished aluminum.

PAINT: Probably a dark silver. And the ugly 73 grille would maybe be a different silver or a black or somthing but it couldnt be the same color as the body. Heck maybe id fabricate one out of aluminum and polish it to match the rims....hmmmmmm i might just do that

Basically i like classy stock looking cars that perform and have mods that change the look but dont change the actual cars "form"....BTW anyone have any good pictures of any 73's????

after i'm done with the stang

70 cougar eliminator clone
engine will be roller 347 or 393
cleveland heads for that boss 302 look
fuel injected, hidden nitrous system
will look more or less like a stock boss 302 engine

trans will be a an AOD-E probably with a shrifter

rear suspension will be 9" based IRS, but not like a heidts system, probably be more like a cobra irs with a modded 9" housing

front suspension will be a SLA similar to factory but with coilovers and some other sneaky stuff

body will most likely be black with flat silver eliminator stripes and some mild body mods, front fenders will be widened and flared slightly but will be hard to notice. would prefer a factory sunroof car

interior will be classic cougar styling with more modern seats, done in black leather and black/white houndstooth, door panels will be custom using deluxe door panels from a 69/70 stang as the starting point, will be covered in leather as well. all fake wood will be replaced with real wood and maybe stained a black color. power windows, ac, power sunroof, power seats, power mirrors, rear defroster, navigation system, nice sound system, guages will be replaced with autometers and extra guages will be added.

wheels and tries are undecided but possibly some simmons wheel, or fiske. maybe some billet magnums.

i'll call it pro-luxo touring

Oh I wasn't being facetious, Bill.....I'm quite serious.

I love the look of the Corvair. Picture that car with some cellulite stuffed under them wheel wells and tell me that doesn't get the hair on the back of your neck standin' up.

The Horton camino thing....yeah, I was just messing around with that. :smoke:

Unlimited funds/resources?

(and maybe quite a bit more talent than I currently have?)

Lancia Stratos kit car with a full custom chassis/suspension (if I've got more talent then maybe I could do a good job of designing it; but right now I don't)

Cockpit: minimalist. Seats, rollcage, gauges, steering wheel.

Paint: Yes. Lots of spiffy paint jobs from the stockers, maybe adapt one of those.

Not too sure about powerplant. Something with twins, not much torque but loves to rev (for that matter, the stock group-5 powerplant the real Stratoses had was nothing to sneeze at)

Special features: A cupholder, just for the sake of having one.

Edit: Oh, the kit car bit is just for the sake of not chopping up an original, but I reckon with unlimited funds I shouldn't feel bad for it.

I'll bite, but I have to share a previous idea. If I shared my real top secret plan I'd have to kill ya...

One of my former ideas:

Platform
Pontiac Fiero (base model notchback will due just fine for a base). Factory space frame cut down to the bare necessities, fully seam welded, and a 14pt cage welded in. Once the whole car is sorted out and tested in the cloak of moonlight it would be powdercoated a medium steel gray.

Front Suspension
Custom crossmember fabricated to replace factory piece, that swings C5-or-6 arms and knuckles (with C4 bearing/hub assemblies). Pushrods take the action inboard to double-adj Koni coil-overs inside the frame rails. Race type sway bar, 14" Wilwoods with six piston calipers, and stainless lines. Race optimized geometry through two-inches of travel. Brushed finish w/clear powdercoating.

Rear Suspension
Custom cradle swinging identical suspension components, 13" rotors and four-pot calipers. Brushed finish w/clear powdercoating.

Wheels/Tires
19 & 20" HRE's (545 I think), with 265 & 345mm Pirelli stickies for "normal" duties - and - a set of the same wheels in 16's for the dragstrip with ET Street rear rubber. The big size stagger in rubber is standard fare for a mid-engine car. Medium steel gray centers with brushed/ clear powdercoated lips.

Engine
10,000rpm Northstar, with a huge single hairdryer. Custom 8-1 stainless header with turbo mounting flange on header. Big intercooler, of course. Dry sump, billet crank, titanium rods, custom pistons, titanium valves, custom cams, CHRFAB Hemi style cam covers, sheetmetal intake with dual throttle bodies, Big Stuff 3 ECU. Brushed finish w/clear powdercoating.

Drivetrain
Aluminum flywheel, Quaife 6spd sequential transaxle, with custom billet bellhousing, QuarterMaster triple disc 7.25(?)" clutch, custom axles, brushed finish w/clear powdercoating on all aluminum parts.

Body Color
Lambo pearl green

Cockpit
Raw powdercoated steel (see platform), Carbon fiber dash, door panels, console, and seats. Patches of body-colored, but tough, fabric on seats. Carbon fiber and aluminum steering wheel, aluminum shift knob, brushed finish w/clear powdercoating on aluminum. Every Autometer gauge made. Fire system, and five point harnesses.

Special Features
All carbon fiber bodywork, closely resembling a notchback Fiero, with the "aero" front fascia. Completely smoothed and shaved. Full carbon belly pan with integral diffuser. Flush, C6/F430-style headlights.

Hmmm, why am I not building this??? On yeah, I have something better in mind :ssst:

1968 Camaro Coupe RS.
Flat black paint/carbon fiber/kevlar clear coated.
Front splitter, hood, fenders, deck lid, wing, rear diffuser made of carbon fiber/kevlar.
17x12 pin drive wheels w/ 335 slicks all the way around for the track. 335 Michelins for the street.
Full tube chassis, suspension, and roll cage based off of current Trans Am, ALMS, and Grand-Am Cup chassis, no NASCAR tech here.
Biggest brakes I can fit w/ ducts.
Interior: Stack guage, kevlar seats, belts, and HANS system. Only the essentials.
LS2 Kinsler injected, dry sump, backed by Hewland tranny.
Onboard air jacking system, onboard fire extinguisher system, cockpit adjustable brakes and sway bars.
Add working headlights, taillights, license, registration and have fun.

Ok, back to reality :hand:

Okay. You need:

-a clean '70 Satellite 2-door
-a complete Superbird kit including the nosecone, wing, and rear window plug
-a 528 Hemi topped with EFI and a centrifugal supercharger
-a Doug Nash 5-speed
-a Gear Vendor's gear splitter
-a Heidt IRS setup
-a front suspension setup utilizing NASCAR-spec brakes + power steering
-NASCAR slicks
-a 50 gallon fuel cell with the fuel door on the left quarterpanel
-a custom interior with a rollcage that follows the contours of the interior

Building a tube chassis to mount the sheetmetal on is always an option.

Adjustable suspension(drive to track, change tires and adjust to race, adjust to drive home)

Gut body so all that exist is cage/body/motor/interior
Stock interior(MUST be comfortable and fit like a glove)
Alpine/iPod Sound, no subs(weigh too much)
Stock exterior
Sleeper, all will think it's a regular 4 cyl FWD import

NO POWER ADDER
NO SCOOPS
NO STICKERS

Keep it simple, nothing I could do without

Just body, drivetrain, cage, interior; able to drive all day in comfort, not luxury

Think the offspring of an Eclipse(interior/body) and a Corvette(C5-R)(The rest)

Not the fastest, but the most unexpected!

I dont want to jinx my 68 Chevelle project, so Ill dream of something different:

MGBGT- Full chassis with custom CA front suspension, coilovers, 3 link rear with narrowed 9 in. Channeled body and full, yet tasteful cage. Single turbo SB2 with a richmond 5 speed (short). 17's and 18's, 13" brakes.

Bright, hurt-your-eyes-yellow, with cage, engine, fuel cell, etc painted to match.

Maybe its just me, but the thought of a small, light, turbocharged go-kart sound like a lot of fun.

OK guys, I'm comin' in from the Ford camp with something that's been in the back of my mind now for the last week.

1967 Ford Fairlane GT500 Street Fighter - The basis for this concept is to start with a '67 Fairlane GT and place a 500 hp Supercharged DOHC V8 from the new 2007 Mustang GT500 into the engine bay along with the 6 speed transmission. Next we're talkin' mini-tubs, 18" wheels, full cage, and loads of custom suspension components. Here's how I'd wave my magic Pro-Touring wand....

BODY MODS
- Custom carbon fiber Power bulge hood (can see it in my head right now...) to give clearance for the supercharger. Maybe integrate some extractors into the hood.

- Carbon fiber front fenders, doors and trunk lid.

- Custom carbon fiber rear splitter

- Custom aluminum front and rear bumpers. Pinch the ends of the bumpers in tight to the sides of the car along with tweaking the center front of the bumper with an integrated grill to accept air for the intercooler. Since I love to design custom bodywork onto vintage muscle, the front of the bumper would be cleaned up, lowered, and reshaped to help direct air into the intercooler.

- All the trim would all be removed and shaved off to improve airflow over the body.

- Custom fabricated aluminum rear spoiler

- Shaved door handles, and locks.

- Door vent windows removed and replaced with one-piece windows to really accentuate the hardtop "look".

- I'd have Marquez fab up some billet parts such as tail light bezels, and emblems.

- Custom candy paint - I'd have to think about this one more.

DRIVETRAIN

- 2007 Mustang GT500 Supercharged DOHC V8 and 6 speed transmission. The engine is said to be putting out atleast 450 hp, it would be "massaged" to 500 - hence Fairlane 500. I'm sure the motor could be made to put out more but for the sake of the concept and that my idea of a well balanced Pro-Touring machine doesn't require insane amounts of horsepower. Besides, a 500 hp. hi-reving 4 cam '67 Fairlane would be amazing especially when you hear the loud blower whine!

- The rear would be a custom one off heavy duty IRS rear end probably designed and built by Mark at Lateral Dynamics.

SUSPENSION AND CHASSIS

- Front would be all coil over with tubular upper and lower control arms.

- Custom built IRS for the rear

- Anything else needed I'd just got to ATS or Lateral Dynamics for consultation and construction.

- Wheels would be a three piece 18" wheel that I would personally design that would carry a slight retro touch but be all modern forged stuff. Fronts would be something like 18x9s, and 18x13s for the rear.

- Brakes - the biggest I can fit. I like Baer's stuff so maybe their new line of brakes they are producing.

- Custom fabricated full length headers, 3" stainless exhaust and racing mufflers. Center exit exhaust integrated into the carbon fiber splitter.

INTERIOR

- I'd design all the interior panels from scratch. They'd be clean, stylish, and carbon fiber . Again - I can see it in my head, I'll have to sketch it up.

- The dash would also be custom and created from carbon fiber. Custom guages and a steering wheel styled to look similar to the wheels.

- Center console would also be a custom carbon fiber piece.

- Seats would be a nice set of Sparcos with harness belts.

- The rear seats would be deleted

- Full custom roll cage

- Aluminum fuel cell and battery box in the trunk.

That's it for now. I think I'm gonna have to get somebody to build this beast!

DanT69

My ultimate PT car would be a 1970 Camaro RS. It would appear relatively stock except a louvered hood, in the same manner as a '69 SS hood but in place of the faux velocity stacks I would do some indented louvres 3 on each side, and some vents on the fenders like on the 1980 above . No badges except a Ferrari style script "Chevrolet" in the middle of the tail pain between the tail lights. The interior would be a all custom dash, wrapped in tan leather black instrument panel. My basic theme is "Ferrari" so some sort of Ferrari style dash, with some polished switches for the various controls, a gated shifter and custom tan leather interior with black stitching.

Mechanically I would want a custom front subframe, coilovers, 13" rotors front and back with red calipers with a embossed "Chevrolet" on them. A independent rear-end, mini tubbed to fit some 315s in the back. Engine wise I would want a aluminium 427 small-block, with hilborn fuel injection converted to EFI, and T56 naturally.

Wheels would be some sort of 19" 6, or 8 spoke wheel with a lot of inset in the back. The car would be either ferrari red or black. Basically, my goal would be to create a car that would be like something chevy would have made if they built cars on the same level as Ferrari or Lambo. Im sure this has already been done but I still think it would be cool.

My turn. This is what I am cooking as we speak. Using the number 4 as my theme:

Platform: '56 4 door hard top
Suspension: 4 wheel independent / AWD using S10 front differential and suspension, Escalade transfer case, C4 rear suspension. Being assembled now. When I have pics, you will have pics. Coilovers at each corner. 4.5" Ride height.
Brakes: 4 14" rotors w/ 4 piston calipers
Wheels & Tires: 18x8" F / 19x10" R (Maybe rob the Z06 bin  )
Drivetrain: 4.4L 4v/cyl Northstar V8 SC. Remove the SC and add two T04 Turbos using the air/water intercooler. Turbos are in my garage waiting for a motor.
Transmission: 4L80 4sp w/shrifter of course
Body Mods: 2+2 Seating, SSR Dash, '57 Headlight buckets for cold air induction, '57 Trim, Suicide rear doors modified to operate like extended-cab truck doors, One piece glass in front doors, Completely shaved, Dual flip down taillights one for gas one for spare battery switch.

Below is Photochopped concept. Thanks DarkBuddah

I received this E-mail today on the N* V8 SC. Got to start saving my pennies.

The Northstar LC3 Production Engine is slated to be ready for sale as a crate on 10/26. You can give your dealer a call then to order - part number 17802896. MSRP is $15,500 - but be sure to check with your dealer as that price is "suggested" and your dealer may offer it for less.

If you have any further questions, let me know.

I have thought of pro-touring my '76 suburban. I'm not sure if the outcome would be what I would want it to be (handling/performance), but I like the concept. I know its a big, heavy, turd and would probably never amount to anything, but I guarantee it'll be the best handling/fastest '76 burb out there. Dare to be different, right?

FRONT SUSPENSION:
Full custom boxed frame with tubular upper and lower A-arms. Not sure which to go with, bags or coilovers. 15" 6 piston brakes

REAR SUSPENSION:
Full custom boxed frame, standard or triagulated four link, again bags or coilovers, matching 14" for the rear.

WHEELS/TIRES:
20"/22" combo. Five spoke design with black or gray center and polished lip. As far as tires go, thinking 275/45R20 for the front, 325/40R22 rear.

ENGINE:
Blown 454 BBC with EFI. (This is the least thought out part of the "build")

DRIVETRAIN:
TKO 600 (I would love to bang gears in a big truck) or on the modest side a 4L60E

BODY:
Mostly stock. Shaved marker lights, smaller mirrors, power windows, smoothed bumpers and a tubbed rear for more tire clearance.

PAINT:
I have two ideas: Entire body in a flat black, or a stock type two tone red/white.

My dream car would be the complete opposite of what I am building.

Take a mclaren f1 car and a 69 camaro coupe and "blend" them.

silver/ grey/ orange paint scheme, carbon fiber silhoutte body.

ground effects chopped top , rear diffusers, wings, flush mounted glass.

interior like a gtp car , full cage and carbon panels, twist shifter, full race seats.

Ridiculous high reving turbo small block hooked to six speed auto.

giant o. z. wheels.

tire warmers optional.

Alright, here we go! I got to go old school on this one.

PLATFORM: '33/'34 ford tudor sedan (got to have a back seat for the rugrats), chopped, channeled, fenderless

SUSPENSION: Wayne Due, can you help me on this one? I want a trick c4 font and rear.

WHEELS/TIRES: about 285 on the front on 18's, the biggest nastiest meat I could find for the rear, maybe 335 on 18's or 19's. The wheels would be a Saltflat/Halibrand type

ENGINE: There are some pretty awesome motors out there, and a new LS7 would rock, but I want to keep the motor Ford based, so it goes like this: 2003 cobra 4.6 DOHC blown demon of a motor with side pipes, with a T-56

COLOR: Either old school black or titanium.

COCKPIT: hidden complete rollcage, black leather flofit seats front and rear, black suede headliner

Man, this is making me moist, I have to think about something else!

I have two:

-Platform: Current generation Trans-Am race chassis with 1968 Camaro body grafted on. Deeply channeled over frame, nose slightly dropped, windshield raked back a touch, with a functional wing mounted above a factory spoiler, some sort of addition the the front valance such as seen on a pro-mod car to integrate a front spoiler/splitter. Full belly pan.
-Front Suspension: Whatever is under Gentillozzis car but tuned a bit softer and with more ride height
-Rear Suspension: Whatever is under Gentillozzis car but tuned a bit softer and with more ride height
-Wheels/Tires: 18" Joengblod (sp?) Black center, polished rim
-Engine: SB2 with EFI and a centrifugal supercharger.
-Drivetrain: TKO 600 or Hewland, going back to a Quaife in the IRS
-Body Color: Subaru WRC Blue on the flanks, flat black on all horizontal surfaces, inside the grill and on the tail panel.
-Cockpit: 4th Gen Camaro Dash, Sparco seats, wheel and harness. Full cage with removable door bars. Dynamat out the wazoo, full interior but w/o back seat.
-Special features: Extend trunk space into the rear seat area, enclose fuel cell in there, dry break dump fillers feed the cell from drivers side, aircraft fuel door from pass side. Take a C-6 exhaust system and turn it upside-down so it exits right between the tail-lights

#2 is more of a daily driver

-Platform: '65 Chevelle Wagon over a Morrison Chassis.
-Front Suspension: C-5 - low
-Rear Suspension: C-5 IRS - low
-Wheels/Tires: Jesse James .38 wheels, 18" Goodyear Eagle Runflats
-Engine: E55 AMG or some European V12 maybe Aston Martin
-Drivetrain: Paddle shifted auto
-Body Color: Daimler Benz Platinum with BMW Avus Blue worked in somewhere.
-Cockpit: Basicly remove the interior from an E55 AMG Wagon, insert into Chevelle.
-Special Features:

Possible 3rd:

Do you think we could fit a TT-LSx into an M3SC?
How about a Buick GNx motor into an older E30 or E36 M3?

69 Camaro (the one in my Avatar has been gone for 15 years)
Complete Z06 suspension (DSE mini-tubbed, of course)
twin turbo LS7 backed by a T-56
power windows, door locks, mirrors
Vintage Air AC
GPS and cruise control, because it's going to be driven everywhere
I'll let Chip pick the wheels and colour.

Since I'm dreaming, I would build a matching convertible, de-tuned (single turbo) with an automatic for the wife.
