View Full Version : Motor mounts - Anyone running one solid and one polymer?

I am considering what motor mounts to run. I have been told not to run solid mounts because of the stress they can put on the block - it can distort the cylinder walls.

I am not sure if that is true.

What I have - one set of Jegs solid side mounts and one set of polyurethane side mounts.

Is anyone running one solid mount with one poly or rubber mount? I have heard this works, to run the solid mount on the driver's side and the poly mount on the passenger side.

I am curious to know what the consensus is. And yes, I really am crazy...

Are you running a solid trans mount? If so then do not run poly motor mounts.

The poly ones are usually pretty stiff and some of them are interlocked. I would recommend all solid or all poly

I have a poly trans mount now.

Are you running solid or poly motor mounts?

I have all poly, very happy with it. Why do you feel the need to run solid?

I've been using nothing but solid motor mounts on both sides and poly trans all the time these days.

I like the way they work, especially with a manual trans.

I have a 540bbc , TH400, 1969 Camaro. It had solid mounts for the engine and trans. I did just what you said and now run poly passenger, solid driver, and poly trans mount. I really like it. This took out most of the vibration and still stops torquing of the engine.

I have all poly, very happy with it. Why do you feel the need to run solid?I want to tie the motor down so it does not lift on the driver's side on a hard launch. I was considering using solid motor mounts on both sides to use the engine as a structural member of the front frame.Either way, I will run a poly trans mount so I don't break something. It looks everyone has their favorite way to mount their engine. At least I have some feedback now.Thanks.

i ran 1 solid and 1 poly for a while with a poly trans mount, nowdays i have a motor plate and poly trans mount, this way the stress is off one of the weaker parts of my block.

I agree a motor plate is best. I don't know if I can do it with my setup.

I have a solid on one side and rubber the other side and tranny in the 78 TA. Years and many street, autocrosses, and 1/4 miles that way.

Sounds like a winner to me...
