I just learned that SCCA may be planning on hosting a multiple segment type events such as what USCA is doing with the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge events. What I understand is that the event will be part of a National series and will have more than an autocross event and this series will be conducted separate from their National and Match Tours, and Pro-Solo Events.

I wasn't able to ascertain what type of events they are planning to do during an entire weekend. Apparently, they are looking into large autocross sites such as airports throughout the country to host this series. Also, it is my understanding that they may have a a series sponsor such as Speedway Motors.

This sounds exciting. Does anyone have any information on this?

That sounds awesome--I've been told that the SCCA owns Thunderhill, so that would probably be a plus. If the USCA is successful, I'm sure that the SCCA will be motivated to expand offerings. I'll hope to hear more on this...

Sounds like a blast Kenny, might be time to sell the C4 and buy something that is actually Classic American Muscle!

No Tom, No. Let him run the C4. If Ken has to dust off his 1LE third gen we're all toast ...

I do, I can't say yet because not everything is in place. I will say it won't be like you describe but will be very cool none the less. Stay tuned.

I actually own a real Classic American Muscle. I have a 66 Mustang but, it is not an autocross car. It is pure stock with all the original equipment.

Also, I'll never sell the toys.

Thunder Hill is owned by the San Francisco Region of the SCCA.

I think SCCA recgonizes that the times are changing and new organizations such as NASA are appearing every year. In order to keep up and remain relavent they have to make changes. I'm excited to see what they come out with.

Wow and the potential market gets split yet again.... Guys I like the idea of events don't get me wrong but stop and think about this guys... If the market keeps splitting and fragmenting (ie American Street Car Association, Ultimate Street Car association, Orange Cone Racing, current SCCA classes etc) where are all the people to fill the events going to come from.. Currently it is a challenge to fill an event and if this keeps going no one will have the stones to rent a facility to host these darn things...

I sure don't know about you, but if someone asked me to run an event and put my bread on the line to rent a facility in Jan for a mid year event on the hope that enough people come along to break even I'd say "See Ya Later"... You put your bread on the line way ahead of commitments from the community and hope they like your deal .. I hope and pray the whole darn thing doesn't just evaporate right out from under us... There really needs to be a better way with this mouse trap so to speak or we may very well see it all go away....

Ask yourself,, would you put your personal money up and take the risk right now on running an event in 2015??? Likely not.... If so I sure hope I see your name/names on one of the organizations sponsor list this year because they will go away if things keep moving in the current direction by sheer attrition if you look to probabilities.... I know I'd prefer less events and have them run properly personally... Guess it's a case of """careful for what you wish for""" here gang......

Albert, you're right, but what will happen is the good events will stay full or get full and the not so good ones will go away. Motorstate is always full.

While I can't say much right now, agreements are handshake agreed to but no ink to paper yet, the approach the SCCA is taking is much different than what USCA and others are doing. What SCCA is planning hopefully will help increase the pool not siphon from the existing pool. What Tommy is saying is correct also, the good events will grow while the poorer events will have to get better or go away. It's all good.

I sure hope so guys...... Not many so ready to step up and put the money down on a track with no guarantees of any kind of break even... These tracks cost quite a bit and there is not that many days out there, not to mention insurance costs. Hey I'd love to see this whole thing grow and work out,,, I'm just honestly worried we're trying to grow too fast....

Anything that bring more events closer to home is good in my book. If you're in the "travel budget limited" pool with me, you understand where I am coming from. The next closest Pro-Touring event to me is 10 hrs away. I have no trailer and taking the risk and extra days off work to make the drive in addition to other travel expenses, makes doing multiple events uneconomical. Hopefully this will allow more people to attend events thus growing the base population of Pro-Touring enthusiast which will in turn grow other events as well.

This is exactly how I feel. If I had a trailer, I might feel differently but I don't.

Trailer and time expense will be more then running the events if you have to tow 13-14 hours like I will have to do. Chris I'm with you on the regional events they will to make a lot of sense plus SCCA has national points systems and national run offs. The BMW club I run with holds 5 events that are a blast to run and the longest tow is 4 hours most are within 2.

I doubt that these new SCCA events being discussed for CAM car involvement are related to SCCA Club Racing. The SCCA safety requirements for Club Racing are pretty strict. More likely these will be Pro-Solo type events like the CAM Pro-Solo Invitational last fall. Events where an autocross car can compete, not a car outfitted for Club Racing on road courses.

SCCA is going to make an announcement early next week that will answer all your questions. I'll try to get the word out here if let me off the leash ahead of the formal announcement. WOW! I used the word announcement a lot in this announcement!

Anything that brings things down to a grassroots level is good for me. If I got invited to Vegas, I would have to pull in some miracle sponsorship to attend.

Speedway Motors Announces 2015 Classic American Muscle Challenge
Speedway Motors is building on the success of the new SCCA® Classic American Muscle (CAM) class to introduce the 2015 Speedway Motors CAM Challenge.
The 2015 Speedway Motors CAM Challenge will consist of three autocross events across the country, kicking off with a western regional event on March 6-8 at Crows Landing near San Francisco. This will be followed by an eastern regional on August 7-9 at Grissom Air Force Base near Indianapolis, and then the Invitational Championship event on September 4-6 at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo® National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Each CAM Challenge event will run the three SCCA CAM classes, with the first two events using the SCCA Match Tour format to determine class winners and an overall winner. The top two drivers in each class at the regional events will earn invitations to the Championship in Lincoln, which will use the SCCA Pro-Solo® format to determine class and overall champions. The top finishing CAM-T or CAM-S drivers at each of the three events will get invitations to compete at the Goodguys AutoCross Finals November 20-21 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The SCCA CAM classes are designed for both traditional and contemporary American muscle car sedans and coupes with front-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration, along with classic American sports cars from the ’60s and ’70s. Cars must be street legal, licensed and insured, have interiors, and use 200 tread wear street tires. There are no restrictions on engines and drivetrains.
“We are pleased that Speedway Motors has decided to create the CAM Challenge specifically designed for muscle cars and that these exciting events will be powered by the SCCA’s rules and administration,” said Raleigh Boreen, SCCA Region Development Manager. “SCCA also provides CAM enthusiasts opportunities to autocross locally at over 1000 Solo events nationwide.”

Speedway Motors President Clay Smith echoed Boreen’s enthusiasm. “It’s exciting for Speedway Motors to present the 2015 CAM Challenge,” Smith said. “These events align perfectly with Speedway’s longtime commitment to racing safety, our involvement in autocross competition, and our expanding line of muscle car performance parts. We look forward to working with SCCA to stage this focused series of special events.”

No change for me. The next closest event for me is Lincoln NE at 9hrs and I have to be invited for that one. I wish them success in these events so that perhaps they can expand the series the next year.

Raleigh and the guys tried really hard to avoid that but it was impossible and get all the other pieces for the event together.

I would, but I've already punched my card to be in San Bernardino area for the 2 weekends after the Crows Landing event. (Muscle Car Nat's and NMCA).
The other half requests to sleep in his own bed at least 2 weekends a month. (He's currently working M-Th in Santa Rosa, Ca). Since he pays most of the bills, I gotta keep him happy... ;)

Like Chris, the closest event is Lincoln at 5hrs. I do wish SCCA luck with the CAM classes. Kind of surprised that a national series( challenge) is only having 2 events then the invite. Seems like you have to have $$$$$$ to compete. Hitting both events that are about 2000 miles apart, plus expenses. But they know best.

I really don't think SCCA expects anyone to attend both non invitational events.

I'll be at the Indy event with enough trunk space for a sizable trophy. Lol
Should be a ton of affordable fun.
