Figured I'd share my "restomod" project. It was a brutally rusted 69, and not much came back from the blaster. I want the car to be able to handle and stop like a more modern car, but I wanted it to have more of a drag race flavor. Kind of like a mix of pro touring and pro street.

The frame is 2x3 square tube steel, but it will have an integrated chrome moly roll cage that is almost entirely hidden, no door bars. Power will be from a 2012 "Boss 302" engine w/supercharger, running on e85. I've never had something like this, thought you guys might be interested, and might have some advice or learn something from this build.

The wheels are 17" Weld RTS, 12" wide on the back and 5" wide on the front. The tires are M&H drag radials, the biggest 17" ones I could find in the rear.

The frame will be cleaned up and angle cut on the front to dress it up a little. If you guys are interested I will keep the pics coming as the car progresses.

The engine and trans are cores. The rear brakes and axles aren't installed yet, we're mocking up the tires to ensure that the rear end housing ends up the correct length.

Nice build. Good choice on the full frame. If I was to do another I think that is the way I would go. Subscribed. Are you doing this build yourself?

Thanks. Unfortunately, this craftsmanship is way above my skill level. The car is being built by Eliminator Customs in Grand Blanc, MI.

The rust on the car was worse than I'd originally thought. After stripping it down to the unibody and blasting it, we ended up having to change the tail panel, both quarter panels, the upper and lower cowls, and cutting out the entire floor. So basically I bought this old fastback for the roof and the rocker panels. Not sure why the rockers were still good, but they were very solid.

Chris started mocking up the body fitment. Love this car so far. Lots of work left but it's going to be sharp and fun when it's finished.

It was originally going to be pure pro touring car, but I am a hard core drag race guy, and have other cars that I drag race. When I started choosing parts for this thing, I just couldn't get used to the idea of the typical pro touring style wheels on it...and I think 17s are the perfect size. When I did a search to find the largest Drag Radials, the M&H popped up. It's not really "Pro Street", it still has 17s, the cage will be mostly invisible, and it doesn't have really giant rear tires and really small front ones. it will have a very streetable 800-850hp at minimum though. The transmission will be a 4r70w, which is a computer controlled overdrive trans.

What are you going to do for the transmission ECU? Are you going to have power steering?

The transmission will be controlled either by a baumanator controller (stand alone) or by the Holly Dominator system. I haven't decided yet. The Dominator can control transmissions, but doesn't have built in logic for the 4R70w, so not sure it will work for that. The Baumanator (sp?) will work for sure.

Yes, the front suspension is from TCI, and comes with a power rack. The front cradle comes from TCI already set up for a coyote. Not 100% sure how the accessory drive will look when done.

Nice looking fastback, well what's left of it anyway! It's unfortunate you had to lose so much of the original bodywork but at least you saved it before it was completely gone. I REALLY like those rims, like you said, not the typical pro touring style but I think they look great. Can't wait to see more progress, i've always liked the fastbacks!

My truck is not on the road yet, [but soon] so I can't comment on how it works, but I bought a Simple Shift for my 4R70W.
The power steering pump/accessory drive/AC on these engines isn't the most 'off the shelf' thing going. I think Sean Hyland Motorsports has something for this.
I am not supercharged, so I didn't get into those issues.

Got a few new photos. The rear frame was extended and capped, and will be welded directly to the tail panel.

The car was mocked up with the new body panels and put on the ground so that we could set up the ride height exactly the way we wanted it. I want the car in the weeds. I love it. I know it's not for everyone, but I think the stance will be perfect.

Looks awesome! I like those wheels, they seem to be very popular lately.
