View Full Version : B-body Rear Calipers on S10 Blazer Rotors

Howdy,

Does anyone know if you can put late B-body rear calipers and abutments on S10 Blazer backing plates and rotors? Need to up the rear brake force per the Tobin/Ron discussion thread and enlarging the rear caliper bore from 48mm to 54mm seems like an easy option if the calipers and abutments will directly cross. The rotors are the same diameter and thickness but I need the S10 axle width so I can't change over everything to a B-body setup.

This gives me an 80% Front, 20% Rear brake bias split vs. the 83% Front 17% Rear split with S10 calipers. The next option is to convert to C5 rear rotors and D52 calipers to up the bias to 67% Front and 33% Rear but that is a ton of fab work with the 4WD S10 rear axle and their very tall rotor hats.

So I was reviewing the input conditions for math on the Tobin/Ron thread and it's attached spreadsheet and found that I was inaccurately multiplying by 2 for the fixed 4 piston calipers. After fixing that, my brake bias is ~55% front and ~45% rear with the R32 Skyline front calipers and the S10 Blazer rears. Looks like I am in territory that an adjustable proportioning valve will be workable.

I believe they will. Only one way to find out.

If the caliper bore size helps another option is to go to the late third gen F-body 11.67x0.78 rear rotor & PBR caliper with integral parking brake mechanism or the similar LT1 F-body 11.54x0.787 rear rotor & parking brake PBR caliper. Both should be a very simple install onto your S10 axle if you get the matching caliper mount brackets off the donor. I don't know if the piston bore is an improvement but getting thicker vented rotors out of the deal might not be a bad idea.
