IMHO, I'm old and have owned a 67 GT350. Keep the tail lights and go forward with the exposed headlights. The cougar was marketed as a upscale version on the Mustang. Non-performance people were more of the target audience. You have the possibilities of doing something that is striking. If you cover the lights, you haven't got a 1st impression to grab someone's attention because you are different. :)

As someone that has done a bit of non-stock late model upgrading, both subtle & not subtle. I likes.
Have seen several of these lights used in retro swaps. Like they say, great minds think alike.
Looks like you'd have to sink them deeper to attempt re-engineering some sort of covers, But I can only guess how much room you already lost just getting modern lights in there at all. If ya got pretty eyes, the hell with eyelids.
If you really did want daytime covers just for show, making them clip on could be a possibility, but again, covering the pretty eyes.

There will be no covers , I'm still trimming a little here a little there to get them to fit and look the way I want them too . Every time I see a Challenger go down the road I love the look more and more .
Thank you for the kind words Sir .

I love the Challenger headlights and agree that they'll be better without the grilles covering them. However, I also don't think the stock radiator grilles will look right without the side pieces. So, I took the liberty of doing a quick pencil styling study. I've basically created some mini waterfall grillebars to tie it all together. 155447

That's awesome Mr. Peanut ! Thanks .
The area between the headlights and center grille piece will be quite a bit smaller than your drawing . My plan is to build a grille piece similar to the stock grille . Thanks again for your efforts .

This weekend I decided to dig out 1000 grit and wet sand the clear , nice and smooth . The plan is to spray on another gallon of clear . Also as I mentioned a while back , I want to see how the new Challenger headlights would work on this project . I ordered some off Ebay and have mocked them up to see how they will work . Here's some pictures , I still need to move them around , up and down , back and forth , left and right etc... plus the bumper is just set in place , the jury is out at the moment .

Here's an update on what's going on . FedEx dropped off my wheels yesterday but the driver somehow left a box on the truck that contained the wheel lugs , valve stems and a few other parts . That box will now be delivered on Tuesday since Mondays a holiday . I was wanting to get the tires mounted today and get them on the car but now I'll have to wait till next Saturday , damn ! . Moving on , I've wet sanded the car with 1000 grit so now I can mask the car , clean it and clear it . Also I've modified the headlight housings and finished up fabricating the headlight mounting bases , I think these are going to look killer when their done .

I think so too Andrew , as for the stock headlights . I really like the idea of hideaway lights but I've never been a fan of the Cougar set up . 69 Camaro on the other hand , GM got it right .

Yes I did . You can see in the picture that I posted of the housing of the area that was modified . I removed the protruding corner and glued in a block off and sealed it with silicone . This area of the housing is hollow , it served as a mount .

Wheel and tire combo looks great on there. Saw the backspacing on the front (5.5") but what did you run on the rear, 6.0"? Did you have to roll the fender lips or massage the frame rails to fit those 295's? Wondering how much I can stuff under there with discs on a stock width rear and Global West's Del-A-Lum bushings on leaves.

They are definitely good as a base. There are a lot of good YouTube videos that show how to do the fleece and fiberglass enclosures. I think a challenge is making the fiberglass stick to the ABS plastic.

Not sure if it would be an option here, but on a gm vehicle I cut out metal behind the kick panel speakers & glued on those black foam XTC baffles to the metal.
Other option if extending the kick panel speaker mount would be to cut out rings from wood, such as a 2 x 8 which would measure 7.25 x 1.5. Sand & body fill it after cutting & shaping & screw in place.
Pretty sure polyester resin will stick to roughed up abs, epoxy definitely will. But if you're not familiar with fiberglass work, you're spending a lot of time and $ for a little item that could be spent on something else.
By the way, looking good with wheels & paint.
Hard to beat the looks of cougar tail lights.

Well...I guess they do. Now I'm wondering why I didn't do this with my Cougar. My guess is that I didn't like the speaker being mostly covered by the stock kick panel. As I recall the stock kick panel just had a series of holes drilled in it where the speaker was located. It may also have been that the I felt the internal space provided by the pods was inadequate for good sound. I always thought that good 6.5" speakers needed a good size enclosure to achieve good sound. I did all this with the Cougar a fee years back, so I don't know what my reasoning was, exactly.

Today I finished up the fuel pump/sender wiring . I built a electrical panel to mount the fuel pump relay and breaker plus whatever else that might need power . I'm sure it's overkill and not needed but who knows ?. I also plumbed in the fuel tank vent into the top of the filler tube with some 3/8 stainless tube ( leftover scrap ) . I bent up some trans cooler lines with the same tubing two days ago . Man ! that is one thing that will drive you crazy ! . You lay under the vehicle and measure and bend your tubing and try to fit it and bend again and refit and bend and straighten and rebend and through it away and start over and measure etc etc etc ...... It doesn't look as good as I want but this could drive me crazy as I said ! . I will cover all the wiring in Powerbraid .

Because you asked Andrew and because I realize that you're one clever fella , you have me double guessing my set up . I have the vent tube plumbed into the top of the Ridetech fuel filler , there is a port there to run a vent line too . Because you asked I'm thinking that this method is really not venting as the gas cap is sealed . I'm now thinking that I'm going to need to run a vent tube to the outside of the vehicle . The Tanks Inc fuel tank came with a vent fitting and instructions to mount it as high as possible . Your thoughts ....

Well, ****. I was hoping you had a brilliant solution already implemented, hence my question! I believe you are correct in your assessment that your current configuration is not venting anything.
My vent situation is not optimal. I have the vent going into the trunk and thus have a very stinky car. I was thinking about punching a hole behind the license plate and vent there, but I hate putting holes in perfectly good body panels. Obviously, this is not an option for you, because you have that fancy gas door and your plate is down on the valance.
So....maybe someone else has some suggestion :-)

Andrew
andrewb70
10-30-2018, 07:49 AM
Another thought that I had is to run the vent to the front of the car and incorporating a stock style charcoal canister. You can then purge the canister directly into the intake manifold using a stock style purge solenoid. The Dominator has many programable outputs, so you can easily control the purge solenoid in a fashion similar to OEM. I don't know exactly what that strategy is, but I assume that the purge solenoid opens at high vacuum conditions. I believe you can also configure the output to be timed. So for instance, you start the engine cold, the purge solenoid opens for 3 seconds (or whatever). Consequently, it does this repeatedly when the engine drops below a specified kPa threshold.

Did the cougars have a factory "stand pipe" behind the back seat like the early 70s F-bodies?
Many Camaro/Firebird guys vent their tanks to the standpipe and then vent the standpipe to open air (red arrow) or through a later factory GM/Rochester vent.
The other option as Andrew mentioned would be to mount a II Much vent in the same location... or an S10 vent tucked up somewhere?
I've also noticed that DSE is using older factory BMW (1180463 TB 988/3) vent canisters in their builds.

It's not rocket surgery, I promise. You know how the Dominator turns the cooling fans on at a set temperature? It is exactly like that. You just create another output and program it. I have also been doing some reading on these systems and how they work and it seems that the purge solenoid should purge not at idle. This would be easy to accomplish. If you go down this road, I can definitely help with the programming.
I see no reason why I can't make my own charcoal canister to suit the space where I want to install it. I was even thinking about using PVC pipe...but I am open to suggestions. From what I can tell the charcoal inside them is basically the same as the activated charcoal that is used in bigger fish filters.

What confuses me is why you would want to purge into the intake in the first place ? . Is this an emissions type of thing ? where you're burning the fuel vapors ? are you using solenoids so you don't create vacuum at the vent tube ?
I was looking into the BMW canisters and they're not cheap either .
This all seems so complicated and why would Tanks Inc system be so uncomplicated ?

By purging into the intake you draw fresh air through the bottom of the vapor canister. By doing that the charcoal is "cleaned" of the fuel vapor.
The Tanks way of doing it is simple, but very stinky.

But it also looks like they made their own "stand pipe" to go in the stock location and then vented it to the canister above:

By purging into the intake you draw fresh air through the bottom of the vapor canister. By doing that the charcoal is "cleaned" of the fuel vapor.
The Tanks way of doing it is simple, but very stinky.
Andrew
Gotcha , I understand . So if the solenoid way to open in a high vacuum condition the engine wouldn't be affected by the small amount of vacuum lost , is that your thinking ?.
Yes the simple way would be rather stinky .
Thanks for your help Andrew .

It's a lot simpler than that. You purge the canister contents into the engine because, well, it's fuel vapor and readily burns!. When you start purging, two things will happen. The A/F will go rich but the ECU will compensate by reducing fuel (this is your O2's at work). The other is the engine speed will increase when the purge is introduced, but again the ECU will compensate by reducing idle air back to target idle. It's very seamless, and aside from hearing the purge solenoid pulse, almost undetectable.
Most purge happens at no load idle. You can set up a simple purge scenario in the ECU to purge at idle, temp above 160, for X amount of time at X pulse width.

Just to bring this back around....Yesterday I vent to the local hydraulic hose store and got a length of Parker nylon hose (this is probably overkill). There was an existing hole in the trunk along the rail that supports the gas tank. I used a step drill to enlarge it to the O.D. of the nylon hose. I ran the hose from the vent, forward to under the package tray, then a gentle sweep up. There are some cavities just at the forward edge of the trunk that are formed by the exterior sheet metal and the interior support structure. I looped the hose through those cavities, then ran the hose down and out of the trunk through the hole.
I went for a drive and there was definitely a noticeable difference. The real test will come when I drive the car next time after it had been sitting over night or even for a day or two. I suspect I will be pleased.
A couple of notes in general to keep in mind. Let's not forget that the vent serves two functions:
1) when the vehicle is being driven and the fuel level is dropping, fresh air is drawn into the vent to displace the gas that is being used. The corollary to that is when the tank is being filled up, the vent gives air in the tank an easy escape path. So as the gas level goes up, air is being easily displaced. Air can also escape from the filler neck, but that can sometimes cause "burps" and gas spills.
2) When the vehicle is not being used, gasoline vaporizes and it needs a place to go. Gasoline vapors are lighter than air, so they will "float" up. Modern vehicles use elaborate EVAP systems to capture, store, then burn off the vapors. The evaporation canisters (charcoal canisters) are used to store the vapors and then various schemes are used to allow the stored vapors to be burned off in the engine. Old systems used a combination of pressure valves, while modern systems use purge solenoids that are controlled by the engine ECU.
For our purposes, we need to decide how simple or complicated we want to make this system and what goals we want to achieve. In the end, I didn't want to add a vapor canister and deal with adding wires and the plumbing a purge solenoid. So the way I did my vent hose allows both of the above scenarios to be accounted for without extra components. A more elaborate solution would be to use or make something like the IIMuch vent. Essentially it is a vapor storage container. The ultimate solution is installing a more modern system with purge solenoids, etc...
Geez....who knew this was so complicated!

Sheesh... so you literally just put a loop in your vent line and ran it high above the gas tank? A much simpler solution than my factory GM "stand pipe"!
I'm sure it will work Andrew! In my searches last night also found this simple solution that it sounds like you basically just replicated with the nylon hose:

My solution is not pretty. Keep in mind that on many Fords, the top of the tank is also the floor of the trunk. So my vent line is exposed and quite visible in the trunk. But yes, my hose is about 8 feet long, so it is a huge loop and the top of the loop is higher than the filler neck.
If someone wanted to make it pretty (like for this build), they can bend a hard line that runs forward from the vent tube to the back of the rear seat, go up to the top (just under the package tray), then loop back down and come through the floor sheet metal, and out just ahead of the rear axle. This would essentially be exactly like the Buick loop that you posted. The stand pipe used on other GM models is essentially a fancier version of the Buick loop.

Agreed. KISS! And I think what you describe would look great in this car Andrew! Are you going to put a filter on the end of your nylon hose?
Mopar did something similar to what GM with the vapor-liquid separator FWIW...
andrewb70
11-01-2018, 07:48 AM
I may use a filter on the end, but I am not 100% sure.
I think the Mopar system used a vented cap. The older Mustangs and Cougars used a sealed cap. A vented cap is needed to address point 1 in my previous post.
If I used a vented cap, I think under acceleration fuel would spill out because the filler is in the rear behind the license plate. Mopars had the filler neck on the side of the tank, so this wouldn't be a problem, although it probably would under heavy lateral loads.
Mopar vented cap:

I think Andrew's solution for your build here is your best option... and I think the high loop under the rear package shelf would effectively trap any smelly fuel vapors, allow them to condensate and return liquid fuel back to your tank.
Run it through a grommet to the area above the rear axle and terminate it with a filter or a charcoal canister if you find one you like... the early Mazda MX-5 charcoal canisters are small and readily available as well.
AND NOW... back to our regularly scheduled programing!

It's all a degree of "stinkyness." It is definitely less stinky than my previous set-up. If you want even less stinky, then consider making your own version of the II Much vapor capture canisters. Use the Mopar parts for inspiration.
Use something like this to get started:
https://www.amazon.com/Vacuum-Insulated-Stainless-steel-Food-Jar/dp/B075NW4M12/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1541090695&sr=8-5&keywords=stainless+jar
If you want the least amount of stink (almost none), then you need to do a vapor charcoal canister and and add a purge solenoid.

Junk yard. 2008ish Ford Fusion controllers. Same as C6. Should run you about $25USD.
I wouldn't stage them. Just keep it simple and run them together. You'll be able to control the airflow by fan speed. You can score the connectors with the controller. Just buy new terminals from Mouser.
You can split a single PWM- output into two controllers.
Andrew

The controller is the "relay" but way more. It's a simple hook up. Two leads (labeled with a M) go to the motor. The little wire is the pwm- signal wire that goes to the Dominator. The other two big leads are power and ground. I like running the ground directly to the battery. The power also runs to the battery, but I run mine through a 40amp circuit breaker.

A weatherpack is not suited for this application!!! Have you seen the size of the terminals on the round connector? Those are probably rated at 80amps. I think a weatherpack terminal is rated to 30 amps. You will need something more substantial on the battery side connector. On the fan side, I would butt splice (quality unshielded butt connector with glue lined heat shrink tubing) the big wires from the controller and Y them out to the fans.
On the battery side, you need to go with something like a metripack 630 series connector. Delphi makes a 3 capity 630 series connector, which is what I believe is used on the Corvette.
https://www.waytekwire.com/item/38133/Delphi-12124685-Metri-Pack-3-Way-Female-Connector-/
That link is just for the female side. I would give Waytek a call and have them guide you through the rest of the parts to make this work, or shoot me a PM and I can give you all the individual part numbers so you can order from Mouser. Waytek has a minimum order quantity, and per part is generally cheaper than Mouser, but Mouser will sell you smaller quantities.
Better yet, go back to the junk yard and get the Yazaki round mating connector and buy new terminals from Spal, if they actually sell them. More details here:

I can't say that I'm not confused though . As I said I was going to use a weatherpack connector on the trigger wire from the ECM (Dominator) . The trigger wires from the ECM and the controller (06 Fusion) are so small that I figured a weatherpack could handle such a small load . The other 4 wires on the controller don't look to be any more than 14g max. . Does the controller up the current or draw a lot of juice ? As you can see I'm in a bit of a fog . Why would I need this round connector when there are just two wires , one for ground and one for 12v ?
Thanks again

The big wires are 10 gauge. The little wire is 18 gauge at most. The two outside wires need to be 10 gauge and go to the motor. This should be done via high quality butt connectors (unshielded with a proper crimp tool...with glue lines heatshrink tubing). The two inter big wires also need to be 10 gauge and also need to incorporate the signal wire. The solution that I proposed, with the 3 cavity connector from Spal has the three wires worked into it. There are the two wires going to the controller, plus the signal wire, all in one connector.
I guess I would want to see what is at the end of the wires that you got from the junk yard.

I mounted the air filter in the front drivers side wheel well awhile back. I wanted to add some support to the filter itself as I don't want it falling off and running over it . So I built simple support that sides over the end of the filter and bolts to the back of the headlight mount.
I also built a trans cooler mount that sits inside the passenger side front wheel well. I also need to bend up some new cooler lines. I wasn't happy with the first pair that I bent up .

Thanks , so do I. The nice thing is even with it sitting so low, there is plenty of tire clearance. I talked with Matt at ridetech on Friday and he figures that I'll need a 500lb spring up front. 400lbers aren't going to cut it. I placed an order with Summit Racing on Saturday.
I was planning on getting some work done this weekend but I decided to rearrange the garage instead. What a can of worms that was. A lot of "good stuff" is getting chucked out .

Well I finally received my Ridetech 500 lb springs from Summit on the 14th , better late than never . So , I got them installed today without any problems. I been installing a Electric-Life keyless entry system , what a PITA !. I bought the 12 channel system , should have purchased the 4 channel . Would have been less of a pain I'm sure . Electric-Life's instructions a less than ideal. Actually they such !. I tried emailing their tech dept. , no reply. Install was fairly simple , it's just their wiring instructions that are very vague. I've emailed Micro , who supply the keyless remote module and remotes. Hopefully I'll hear back tomorrow. I've followed their programming instructions and double checked the wiring but the little light just won't come on to tell me that it has gone into programming mode. If anyone has any ideas on how to get this thing to work , please by all means speak up.Today I also installed one of the front custom kick panels and speaker as well. Very pleased with the way it all went together. I made some raised support pieces that go in behind the kick panels for the panels to mount to. They're just some 18 ga pieces that are tacked in place . I have the A/C relays and such mounted to the wall behind , so I needed the kick panels to make room . The speakers are a shallow mount Rockford Fosgate piece. I also found a place to mount the washer reservoir where it is out of the way and easy to get to , I also wired it in .

Today I finished off the front speaker install . I purchased the front kick panels from Speedway , $59 for the pair . I've got to say that if you're building a 67-68 Cougar or Mustang and you're in the market for front kick panels , you've got to look at these . Retro Sound is the company if I recall correctly . Here's a couple more pics , You can see what I mean about the support pieces that I used to make some room plus make a good mounting surface .161663161664

I emailed Micro , the manufacturer of the keyless control module . They replied the next day to inform me that they don't have a tech and they supplied me with the install instructions that I already had. Jeez , that's some customer service for you .Yesterday I emailed Electric-Life and they replied today. Their tech helped me figure it out , it pretty much boiled down to "ignore the instructions, they're useless" .So , after a little bit of snip this wire and twist it to that wire and see what happens. I got it working, so all is good now ... at the moment.....

Sunny and 85 sounds mighty nice ! sunny and 42 here plus they're calling for some snow overnight.
The instructions stated that you have to program the remotes after it's all wired in. Turns out that they are already programed from the factory. Also wire in the ground , constant 12v and the switched 12v as stated in the instructions. Ignore the rest of what they tell you , don't connect your locks with the blue and green wires as they tell you too. Start your connections from channel 1 then 2 and so on. I hope this makes sense.

I have been following your build with interest.
I think the unit you have is a canister filter and I would be interested to know if the filter has charcoal in it.
In this pdf,http://mellens.net/mazda/Mazda-Miata-2006-2007/emission_system.pdf on page 5 onwards it mentions how it connects to the large charcoal cannister via a leak detection pump.
I am looking for a suitable charcoal unit for 66 Mustang convertible. I welded a AN fitting to the top of the tank fill neck and intended to run a hose with a Tanks Inc inline rollover valve, but I like the way you vented the tank, to above the axle. The unit you have is a great size.
On another car which just had a vented cap, the garage would smell of fuel especially on a hot day. For that car I used a Toyota Supra charcoal cannister but I did not use any purge valves etc. Just the vent hose via a rollover valve to the cannister and no smell. I would like to use something smaller and that Mazda inline unit looks good.
Has anyone used one on a car or given it a shake to listen for the charcoal inside?

I was hoping to have reached a milestone this weekend and start this thing up for the first time. But it wasn't to be. I downloaded a file into the Dominator , which in turn activated the fuel pump and pissed a gallon of fuel onto the shop floor. That's correct , yes a loose fuel line fitting. I should have checked each fitting to see if they were tight but I didn't. I found a few other little leaks also. After laying on the floor and looking at the stainless lines that I had bent up and installed. Which to tell you the truth I wasn't 100% happy with for my own picky little reasons , I decided to yank it all out and replace with stainless braided line. So I ordered 20' of line and fittings. The lines will be run from a pair of bulkhead fitting up front to just in front of the rear passenger side rear tire were the fuel filter is plus a bulkhead fitting for the return line. I'm keeping the stainless hardlines from there back to the tank.

Been lurking for a while, but love the build! If you are going with braided line, make sure you consider something like Earl's Vapor Guard. Simple braided line will weep overtime and you'll get that gas smell back. The Vapor Guard line won't. Made a huge difference on my 67 Mustang.

With some advice from Andrew I made a vent canister for my Cougar out of a small stainless Thermos and two fittings. Install the fittings in the cap and mount it upside down and you have a canister for all of $25. To vent the can outside of the trunk I removed the fender extension and found there was enough room for the hose to come out and the valve to be mounted. Once it’s all buttoned up everything is hidden from plain sight.

It doesn't have to be. The point is that as gas vapors escape the tank (gas vapor is lighter than air) it will simply collect inside the canister. Once the car is driven and gas levels inside the tank go down, the resulting suction will draw the vapors back inside the tank. Should temperature get below the vaporization point of gasoline, then the liquid gas flows back into the tank. The hose from the tank to the vent is flush with the canister bottom, so liquid gasoline flows back easily. The vent line in the canister has an internal "stand pipe" that goes from the bottom of the canister to about an inch from the top. Pretty simple and effective solution.

Moving along , recently I installed the rear quarter glass , Earl's vapor guard fuel line , and today I bled the brakes. Tomorrow I plan on installing the windshield .Those of you that are into this model 67/68 may have noticed the trim piece that runs along the top of the rear fender in front of the quarter glass. This piece is normally chrome and connects to the drip rail chrome trim. As I'm not using the drip rail chrome trim , I had to modify the piece in front of the side glass. It's these little things that can drag a project on but I think that the juice was worth the squeeze.

Dodged a bullet today. Yesterday I noticed that the odometer on my Autometer speedo was lit up , but the key was off. The gauges are on 12v switched power , something is wrong. Also when I would turn the key to on , the fuel pump didn't turn on. But some times it would , must be a problem with the ignition switch (new) I'm thinking. So today I thought I'd check things out , I connected the battery , odometer is still lit , turn the key , pump starts , engine starts , runs great , runs for 5 minutes with no problems , turn key to off , doesn't turn off , disconnect battery , still running , disconnect fuel pump , runs for a minute then runs out of gas . I look through my wiring diagrams and check things out. Gauge power comes from the fuse block , I pulled the gauge fuse and the odometer turns off . It's got to be the switch. I turn the switch to see if the pump turns on , it doesn't. I check the wiring on the switch , seems fine. Turn the switch again , it comes on and the engine starts. Runs great , turn the switch to off and it continues to run. Disconnect the battery , still runs , disconnect fuel pump power at the tank , it sparks and a fire starts . There must be a small leak at the bulkhead fitting at the front of the trunk. I **** my pants and grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. Two short blasts can make a hell of a mess but so can fire. Not a big fire but enough to start a big one and scare the hell out of me. No damage done , just some burnt trunk pant . Which I've already repaired. It must be the ignition switch ... correct ?.

Never disconnect the battery when the engine is running. The alternator uses the car battery like a huge capacitor and without that capacitance there will be huge voltage spikes upwards of 100V on the electrical system while the alternator is turning.
I don't think the fuel pump will turn on every time you turn on ignition power, if the fuel pressure is already high then there is no need to turn on the pump.
It sounds like your ignition switch is working but I think you may have constant power connected to ignition power, possibly at the engine's ECU, since the engine doesn't want to turn off and I think this voltage may be making it's way back to the odometer speedo.

If the odometer is lit up, then your "switched" 12+ is not actually switching. Meaning, it is not shutting off. It also means the ECU is always ON. If the ECU is always ON, then it makes sense that sometimes it would not prime with the key, because it is always getting power.
I would start looking at how exactly the fuse block is getting power. Is there a main relay that activates the fuse block?

Ok , it seems that my first switched source was fine. I found a second source, wired it in and checked it. Same reading as before. Disconnected the ecu red/white , power goes away. Seems the red/white are providing power ?. Odometer light still on . I went through the Dominator install instructions/ electronic transmission wiring . It says not to hook up the ecu switched power red/white at the same point as the trans power red or back feed can occur and the engine will not shut off. These I wired in correctly at the start.

Fantastic build by the way, one of my favorites especially considering it's entirely garage built and still has all the fancy electronics!
Yes , got it figured out today. Turned out that it wasn't the ignition switch , so I have a spare sitting on the shelf. The Dominator has a wire (red/white) from the main harness that needs to be connected to a switched 12v source and there is also a wire (red) from the electronic transmission harness that also needs to be connected to a switched 12v source. These two sources have to be separate from each other. If they're on the same circuit , they will back feed into each other and the engine won't shut off if started and other weird things happen that will have you scratching your head. Believe me. I thought I had them on separate circuits but apparently not. I connected the red/white to a ignition port on the fuse box and the red wire to circuit for electric fans. I'm using an American Autowire harness. My electric fans will be controlled by the Dominator. Which leads me to tonight's efforts in the shop. Aided by Andrew's YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C-Y0VsD6pY&t=275s .
I was trying to program the cooling fans but was struggling a little, I'm tired and I'll try again tomorrow. But it did feel good to be able to start it and stop it with the key lol!. Here's a pro tip , instead of disconnecting the power lead a the pump and lighting the trunk on fire. Just pull the fuse to the pump . lol .
Thanks for the kind words

The last couple of days I've been putting things back together under the dash. I had a few little leaks in the brake lines as well, nothing that a twist of a flare nut wrench couldn't take care of. Tonight I installed the windshield , tomorrow night I'll seal it up. It's funny that just installing the windshield can make it look like a car again ! lol. I was looking at the stainless window trim tonight as well , it needs a little TLC. Getting there , slowly but surely.

It’s definitely a beautiful place to live/visit. I’m in the city of Langley , 30 minutes east of Vancouver. Langley has an awesome car community. On a sunny day, hot rods etc are all over the place. You’re always welcome.

Have been busy putting the glass back in this thing. The windshield went in without a hitch but the rear is a little bit more of a PITA. Since the rear window channel was rusted out and I had to deal with that. I made templates the best I could but it needs to be near perfect to look correct. But it’s something I’ll have to deal with. Lots of cussing going on today!

2 minutes away there is late 80’s Mustang that’s just been sitting in a driveway. I look at it every time I drive by. It keeps calling my name. I’d love to have it as a future project. ?.

Front and rear glass is in. What a PITA it was to install the rear window trim. West Coast Classic Cougar say that the reproduction window seal sits a little too high which makes installing the trim a bear. They recommend using Mopar trim clips as they are a little longer, I didn't. I've been working on the door glass the last couple of days. It feels good to dig out parts that have been stashed away for the last 6 or so years. Thank god for the kind people on YouTube that show me how it all goes back together ! lol. Yesterday I picked up my bumpers from a local chrome shop , they stripped them down to bare metal for me. They're in awesome condition, only one little dent to be massaged out and they'll be ready for finishing and paint.

Do you have a modern cell phone? LoL...use it to make a video. If you have a Gmail account, upload the video to the Drive and share the link with me. I can upload the video to my YouTube channel, or you can upload it...many options
Remember to hold the phone sideways, not in portrait, and don't block the mic with your fingers.

OK Andrew , GMail tries to download but it can't as it "exceeds the attachment limit". I've clicked on "save to files" and chosen "ICloud drive" but it seems to only download audio . By the way I have an Iphone 7 . I'm surprised that I can screw in a light bulb ! lol .

Today was bumper day , these cars didn't have modern day bumpers that's for sure . Shaving the bumper bolts was the prime objective . Job done . Milestone day , the car actually backed out of the shop and into daylight !!! not pushed but put into reverse and actually driven !!!. She is dirty , I didn't wash her because I'm waiting on my order from CJ Pony parts. In my order are two seals that attach to the vent windows , which I thought that I had ordered . So I wait for them to be delivered , they should arrive Monday. Guess what ? I ordered them three years ago and I found them this afternoon !. It's funny how time flies when you're in the shop working away talking to yourself and before you know it it's getting dark and you realize that you haven't eat'n and the thought of ordering a pizza is heaven !.

Obviously when drilling put some tape down but another trick is to spin the drill backwards until it goes through the paint and then drill as normal. It'll help keep from chipping the paint.

The bumpers have been stripped , bolts shaved , and second stage of filler and sanding. The plan is to paint them body color this weekend. I played with the idea of black bumpers but silver they will be.165026

Maybe a tic of black in the silver to darken it just a shade or possibly the same silver but in a satin clear to define it from the polished body.

You can take 2 liter pop bottles and scuff them with scotchbrite pads and use them to make test panels. Try your paint mix formulas by spraying and clearing and then look at them in all lighting situations. The curve of the bottles is better than a flat panel for that.
