A co-worker and I have been discussing powdercoating LS block since engine paint has to be touched up often and looking through the GMPP catelog they offer an LSX block which looks to be powdercoated Chevy Orange. Has anyone ever gone through this? About how much is the cost? Pics would be great too.

Is this a show only vehicle? Never to be started or driven? How much of the block can you actually see after it's installed in the car? Just asking because engine paint CAN be touched up (if needed) and powder coating cannot. A well done paint job will be just as effective as powder coating and can usually be done for less then 30 bucks.

It's going to be driven for sure. I want it to look similar to the LS in the Holley Performance C10. The sbc in my truck was painted and started to flack after about a year. I would like to be able to easily wash off the block and not have paint come off with it.

Paint will hold up for years if the block is prepped (cleaned) properly. Degreasing and prepping with a good wax/grease remover iw the ticket to paint that will last for many years. All that is needed for future cleaning is Simple Green, etc.

What paint would you recommend to paint the engine? I have been using the engine enamel from duplicolor and it looks good but flakes off after about a year.
I use engine paint from these guys.... AERVOE (http://aervoe.com/paints_coatings/Engine-Enamel.html)..it dries fast, last a long time, cleans well.. we have used them at the speed shop for years now
