Getting ready to put my interior back together and looking at dynomat/ramm mat/whatever placement in regards specifically to the roof. I havent ordered up my headliner panel yet so dont know for sure how much play I'll have in that or if it fits tightly to the roof metal, but am trying to decide what really needs insulation and what doesnt. This car is not exactly going to be driven in the rain so from a noise perspective, Im thinking it wont make much of a difference to insulate the roof, which again, depending on the headliner design, I may not be able to anyway.

I figure the firewall and floor will get sound deadener and heat insulation, the mini tub wheel wells come into the cabin so I'll probably do sound insulation over them and the fire break panel (that separates the trunk) behind the rear seat. Dont know if i'll get anything into the doors - does that really make a big difference?

Thoughts? Thanks!

Cld matting is mainly for vibration resonance/dampening as in audio related frequencies. .but it will dampen road noice too
A combo of ccf/mlv would be better for airborne noises.
With that being said I'd concentrate mainly on toe board and trans hump and wheel wells and underside firewall if you can get to it..
..perhaps the area where exhaust runs
you don't need to wast cash and time doing every inch of floor pans..20% will be more then enough
only people that bother to do doors are they guys that have audio systems

can also use a water based liquid
lizard skin or second skin audios version. ..which may be rolled on

With cld you pretty much can't go wrong with your choice, unless its fatmatt and peel n seal..those are crap

Second skin audio for heat matting for sure
SDS, Murder Mat, or KnuKonceptz Kolossus for CLD matting
Mass loaded vinyl and closed cell foam is up to you if you want to try for a luxurious quiet ride.

This website has a lot of helpful info for what is involved in sound deadening.

As mentioned, CLD tiles only control panel resonance and do not work very well in reducing noise. You will want to combine a high-mass sound blocker with a foam decoupler to get the best results.

Here is a video that I put together using the sounddeadenershowdown.com products:

Considering that your original question was about the roof. I would definitly do the roof. You may not drive it in the rain, but the sun will be beating down on it all those sunny day's and without the insulation you will get a ton of unneeded heat through your roof. Making your a/c work twice as hard.

I have the underside of my roof covered with CLD panels.

lol @ A/C :)

Air conditioning being needed in Washington state is like Air Conditioning being needed in Alaska.

Good point on the sun heating it up though, been up in the air on doing a light tint on the windows for that very reason.
