I talked to the shop today and they will not finish the console before the weekend. They expect the entire install to be done next week. Just to whet your appetite, The console will have black leather sides and the "top" Flat portion will be made of carbon fiber that matches the Covan's Classic dash panel in the car. The head unit will be in the stock location with the console coming up to envelope it. Below that will be 4 or 5 guages and then a switch panel that will rest just ahead of the shifter. Behind the shifter will be "OH DEAR" cupholders, dont worry they have a sliding cover to hide them. I will try to have the shop send me some pics as they go. Pics as soon as possible. I talked to the shop about making templates and patterns so they could reproduce the console and they said that they would do it.
Thanks

Very interested in this. Where is the shop located, and what are you facing as far as pricing?

That looks great, I hope mine turns out as well. We have planned for the console to cume up higher on the dash and have the head unit of the steroe incorporated into the console. We'll see if it turns out that way. Thanks for the pics of your ride...we have the same vibe goin' on.

The shop is in Midwest City, Oklahoma. They have a SEMA project for this years convention. They are very highly regarded in the area and do very good work. We will see how the price comes out, but the hard quote I got for all the stereo equipment: head unit, amps, subs, speakers, et al with istallation and build of amp panels, console, and sub mounts was $2200.00.

Great lookin car. You must be psyched that it's coming together. Nice wheels too! A bit of a modern twist on the old minilite wheel. Who makes them?

Here is a custom console I am building for my 68 camaro. Since I am using the covan center dash panel with the 4 gauges I decided to build a console that will allow me to use the a/c vents, CD player, and vintage a/c controls. Also I am going to use the Lokar auto shifter.
Excuse my ugly paintbrush picture, it is just a picture I made up to go by.

I built this custom console for my 69 out of plywood and had it covered by an interior shop. It was a pain in the ass to make but I am very satisfied with the results. It will incorporate 4 Autometer gauges as well.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but do you have any more pics of your interior. It looks awesome. Do you know what the shop used to cover your seats and console? is it real leather?

Thanks for the props, the wheels are Centerline Meteors. You know how it is with wheels you can look forever and not know which way to go. I am very satisfied with the way they look, just the right amount of openness to show off the brakes.

I got word today the company that is going into production won't be ready until after SEMA. It sounds like they have a lot of cool stuff coming out and with any luck, you will see it in our online store after SEMA.
When I have more info I will post it.

I plan on building a custom console for my 67 camaro with a T-56. I want to put the stereo in it as well as a few more gauges, and more than likely a lid for a little bit of storage. Not to sure about cupholders, I don't want to take away from the look of it any.

There are some more pics of my interior in the vBGarage area. Just look for the user 69zz3 or I can send you some. The shop I used was located in New Windsor, Maryland and it is not real leather, but it looks damn close. Thanks for looking.

That console looks pretty sweet. I actually had something like that in mind for my car...
How much did it cost you? If you don't want to post it, feel free to PM me.

Here are the pics of the console. As with all things the final version is not exactly what I envisioned, but I'm satisfied with the way it turned out. I hope to have all the guages and switches installed soon. As you can see the interior is not complete. We are just test fitting and mocking up. We will be taking everything out and doing complete cleanup and refurb while the car is at the paint shop. As always, your suggestions, criticism and questions are welcome.

Castlesmith & zz3, both of you did very nice jobs on your consoles.
Castlesmith, are those Arizen seats? Have you had a chance to drive the car with them in? Wondering how you like them, and how well the mounting brackets/sliders function.

I will let Castlesmith comment on his opinion of the seats but they are Arizen Racing Sports seats. More photos of the seats and car are on the link below. It's been great working with you Cass!

Hmm, just looked at Centerline's website. Can't find them. Wonder if they are discontinued?

Switches, Switches, Switches... we have Ignition, Momentary Start, Fan, Low rev limit, Nitrous Arming, and Under Hood Lights and the small button rocker you see on the lower left is for the exhaust dumps.

As Mark indicated thay are Arizen seats. I have driven the car for a week now and I love them. I am 6' 1'' and weight 225. When I first sit down the seats feel a little snug but very quickly you settle in and it becomes a connected feeling. My cousin who is a whisp of a man at around 5' 10'' 190 says they just feel great to him not snug at all. If your'e a 260 pounder they would probably be uncomfortable. The foam in the seats is very supportive and the lumbar support is great. I was supplied with mounting plates that would attach to the sliders. I located the mounting positions in the floor of the car and drilled those plates to position the seats to their most outboard and rearward position possible. This allowed me to accomodate the console and get a little extra leg room. Bolts through the plate to the floor are a little tight to get to, but it's no hill for a climber. A little graphite and the sliders work great.
Thanks,
Castlesmith

Sweet! Can you give any more info on the exhaust dumps and the starter switch? I'm planning on doing a push-button starter switch in my car, and have also been thinking about electric cut-outs. I'd appreciate any more info you could give me.

Exhaust dumps can be found here: http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/order.htm
There were several companies that made these. I compared them and decided on these primarily on price. They have been on the car for about 2 months and are working very well with no leaks. It's an absolute blast to open them up at a stop light and see the guy next to you snap his head. My 6 year old says "daddy, I never get tired of those dumps". There were definitely ground clearance issues with my car. "No speed bumps" if you know what I mean.
The momentary switch came in a kit from moroso. We have wired the car with a relay and a couple of kills. We kept the key for sentimental reasons. There is a sequence of key and switches you have to do correctly to start the car. Being a convertible We did not want someone to just be able to jump in and go. No Lojack coverage in Oklahoma led to the Good Ole Boy theft deterrent system.
Thanks for the compliments!
