      Machinists/Lathe guys?

I have a pair of hubs with integral rotors. I want the rotors cut off to make a stand alone hub that will use an external rotor. The face of the hub will have to be turned down the amount of the thickness of the new rotor. The nose of the hub gets turned down a little too. Not sure if the hub diameter needs to be smaller but possibly. Not by any large amount I don't think. The rotor/hubs are from a Ranger and the new rotor will be from a mustang.

Anyway, this has been done before I was just wondering what a service like this might cost. If rotors were provided. Might even have the rotors cut off already so it would just be turning down the hub.

I used a junk set of F body rotors. Cost me nothing. We cut the rotors off with a sawsall and took the hubs in and had a shop turn them down on their brake lathe. 100 bucks with brand new bearings and races pressed in.

What car/truck are these going on?i would like to note here what most people dont do with this kind of mod is to face off the surface that the rotor will ride on.they dont run very true compared to the machined rotor surface all that stuff needs to be indicated in a lathe chuck true with the bearing spindle surface and spindle.plead poverty with a nice shop and the should go easy on you.id charge 50.00 bucks for that since it more of a hobby make someone happy type job then a make money deal.

...And doing the rotor on a hub from another car can change its offset too.

I did this with my old '89 Camaro, I used the hub from an S-10 Blazer for the tone ring. I had a brake shop at the time, did this all on the brake lathe.

Shouldn't cost much to have done but like Chevelletiger said, make sure you account for the thickness of the rotor mounting face to keep your offset right.

When I do that kind of work...it's time/materials. Figure my lathe/tooling cost over $10K.....my shop overhead is $2900/month...if someone wants to start off with explaining to me how much time it will take and what it should cost.....I have other people waiting on jobs that aren't that concerned....the other customers are just looking for the job to be done correctly. You haven't even made a drawing with the dimensions you require for your conversion....impossible to calculate costs on what you want...good luck in your search for someone.

If you were closer I would do them for you! I done that on my duster when I put viper brakes on it.
