Looking to do the power tour this year coming and really dont wanna travel without one, any help would be greatful. Currently running 18 inch staggard offset budnik gasser wheels with bear brakes

i read somewhere that a GTO rim fits with the 13" brakes no problem...then run a different tire to match the height. I will find out tonight.

The new GTO bolt circle is 5 on 200mm; close but different than the normal 5 on 4.75" most GM cars have. It may physically fit if there's enough wiggle-room on the rim, but it would make me nervous.

I'm seriously considering a 13" front disc upgrade, so I was a bit concerned about this issue as well. Anyway, since I just purchased a set of OEM Ford Mach1 heritage wheels, I want an appropriate spare, so I'm thinking I'll either get a spare for an '03 Mach1 or Cobra. Either one will fit a 13" rotor, and I should be able to get one for less than $100. Seems a reasonable solution for us Ford guys.

Funny guys we have here :jump: well i've tried a few factory spares and nothing, and that fix a flat stuf is so messy when its time to change the tire. Well maybe one of the billet company will here our cries and have a solution

Marty doesn't have spare tires, just spare cars!:poke:
This is a good thread, and something I need to think about. Hopefully before too long I will need to worry about it!

Good to know, Vince. I probably wouldn't have tried the spare on the front brakes once I got them assembled, and would have been unhappy when I found it didn't fit. Thanks for the link.. but, where is chainsaw Texas? I think that'd be what I'd need the spare to get to!

This site pretty much talked me out of a spare years ago. Soo with that said I have Hagerty and a cell phone.

Remember that --if you have posi--your spare should be the same diameter as your REAR tires. Otherwise the two rear tires will go down the road at different speeds and your posi will be very sad. :crying:

In all seriousness, a spare tire is a non-starter for me. My front suspension is custom built, and all the packaging is done to 1/2" tolerance (wheel to caliper, tire to fender lip, tire to frame rail, wheel to tie rod, tire to master cylinder, tire to hood latch, etc. etc.).

On the rear, with its "friendlier-to-a-spare-design", I will have to disconnect the coilovers and driveshaft to get the tires off. That isn't something I'm gonna be able to do on the side of the road anyway.

My plan is to pray for a careful (or bribable) flat bed operator who responds quickly to my call for help.

So it ain't even worth considering ... sorry for making light of your question. :)

I would think that a 3 piece wheel could be made in 5" wide for a spare. or even 6" and maybe some narrow width tire on it?

I know your pain John. When we had our 66 nova we only had little wheels on there and we still had to jack the body way up in the back to get them out. Total PITA so I cant even imagine with your set up.

I guess my post disappeared. The C4 spare is 155/70-17 and should clear most brake packages up to 13". The ID of the wheel is 15".

Fix a flat will work if you have 2 cans, get the nonexplosive type, I think that is all they sell now anyway.

A tire inflater pump that goes in your lighter for power will work if it is just a nail or a staple and you leave it alone and don't pull it out until you get the tire patched from the inside. No plugs, they are dangerous at high speeds because they rupture the tire worse than the nail. Jacking the car up off of the tire will help in speeding up filling the tire with one of the pumps.

The flatbed truck is the other best option. I use Allstate motor club and they have always sent out someone and all I do is sign my name and they are good in all 50 states where as some motor clubs are not.

Last but not least a new form of help has come along and if you have a laptop or the internet on your phone you can come here and ask one of us to bring you a wheel that is just holding up a car or sitting on a hub with the car on jack stands. Ya just never know which one of us is close and available.

I remember getting a nail years ago on my Comp T/As and when I noticed it was low it had 15psi in it and I was able to get to a station and put 45 psi in it and drive 30 miles to the dealer that put them on before it got back down to 20psi. It never hurt the tire and the patch lasted just fine for the life of the tire.
